View Full Version : Catalytic converter Question

I would greatly appreciate any comments from the group. Thank you in advance.

I recently missed third gear at high rpm and bounced off the rev limiter several times. Suddenly the car lost power and began missing badly. The only mod on the car, other than a few appearance items, was a K&N FIPK.

The car was trucked to an SVT dealer who immediately diagnosed a blocked Catalytic converter.....blocked by broken internal material. The broken pieces, which appear to be a plastic-like honeycomb material, looked partially melted. FIPK or no FIPK, should the converter have reached a high enough temperature to fry the converter(s)???

The dealer replaced the converter, all eight plugs, an exhaust sensor, and a HEGO sensor. The car now runs strong, but I am concerned about a repeat problem.

I wouldn't be worried... In the grand scheme of things ...there are worse things that can happen...
I don't believe you caused this event...and neither did the dealer. It was covered... and will be for quite a while..
