Any one know if 96-98 DOHC heads will fit the 03-04 short block? I have a buddy with an 03 short block I am considering buying, just want to know if the heads will fit and work?
Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Your heads will go on the block. I'll have to research it a little more and see if any minor modifications are required for a complete swap.

Yes the will fit, you'll need to use a '96-'98 intake, and other assorted hardware.

My question is why? Switching from the strongest aluminum block ('96-'98 had the strongest aluminum blocks) to an iron block...I really can't see the reason. Why not just forge/build your block and keep the lighter weight block? Nothing really special about the '03/'04 Cobra block....it's really more of the heads plus intercooled blower (and forged from the factory).

Since you want to use '96-'98 heads you can't use the '03 blower so with the pistons in the '03 block your compression is going to be down and your power will be seriously lacking. Stock '96-'98 is 9.85:1 but the '03 Cobra is 8.5:1.
