View Full Version : SCMC/MGW Spring Drag Day - March 25, 2006

cobrabitn
12-02-2005, 10:40 PM
The SCMC/MGW Spring Drag Day will be on March 25, 2006. We will have the same format as the Fall drag day with one exception, the bracket races will be grouped into 3 groups. The groups will be as follows:

1. Ladies Open Race (Open to any type vehicle - non-members)
2. Men's/Women's Open Race (Open to any type vehicle - non-member)
3. Terminator King Race (Open to club members only)

Only races number 2 and 3 will be eligible for any cash award. Our goal is to have a $500.00 purse for each category of 2 and 3. Actual purse depends on the number of spectators attending. Fee is $50.00 with a $15.00 discount for early registration. Registration will begin on January 1, 2006 when the registration forms go up.

Concerning category 2 and 3:

Category 3 is for SVT Cobra Club Members only in which members will be running against each other to see who is left standing. SCMC members who participate in the category 3 race cannot participate in the category 2 race. Club members must be driving a manual transmission SVT Cobra to compete.

Participants in the category 2 race cannot participate in the category 3 race so we do not have the same car in both races taking both purses. This is set up to have a little club rivalry while still keeping the same format and giving both members and their friends an equal chance to win a little spending money.

The format is as follows:

Test and tune -

During this time, you can grudge race some of your friends and non-friends. :rotf:

Afternoon Bracket Competition -

See how good you are on knowing your driving skills and take home the cash to prove it. Once the competition is over, you will go back to test and tune while the awards are being figured out. There will be 13 awards and the ceremony is usually held around 4:00 to 4:30 p.m. Our rental ends at 5:00 p.m., you can stay all night till 11:00 p.m. without any extra fee for the Saturday night grudge races.

The NMRA ( www.nmraracing.com ) will be supplying some goodie bags for this event. Inside the bags will be some 2006 decals, an NMRA schedule, and some literature along with a cool dash pad to hold your cell phone or keys from slipping. We will also be including a $10.00 off coupon in the goodie bag from Pro Dyno ( www.pro-dyno.net ) so you can have your car dynoed while the event is taking place.

We encourage all SVT Cobra owners to join our club and join in on the fun. The SCMC member that wins will be featured on our website and in our quarterly newsletter. (To join SCMC go to www.scmcstore.com and sign up on line.)

If you have any questions, you can e-mail me at mrmach@cetlink.net, thanks.

I hope the track is good and prep'd.......a bunch of people have been having problems with traction issues and on SVTperformance they are talking about some Cobras and sub 10 sec race cars ending up in the walls. I know of a black one that got totalled there, hit the wall and flipped it about 3 times. Took a big chunk of the wall with him too.

We have been going there for 5 years now and never had a problem but I will ask Jeff about it and maybe he can give us some more details. Are you sure they are talkinag about Carolina Dragway and not Darlington? :doubt:

InfamousSVT
01-17-2006, 04:37 AM
Yeah, they were talking about the House of Hook. Most of the wrecks happened at night, so hopefully it was the dew on the track causing the problems. Hope it's good weather like every other time we've been

If you plan on attending this event then there will be some goodie bags given out at the gate with the NMRA stuffers to include some cool and a $10.00 off dyno pulls from Pro-Dyno. That means if you want to get three pulls with air/fuel metering then it will cost you $40.00 instead of the traditional $50.00 Dan normally charges. I'm sorry y'all but I just collapsed last night because I pulled a 12.5 hour shift and couldn't hold my eyes open enough to even answer all of these questions.

So here goes...

Mike,

Two people can drive the same car but not at the same time, it goes by car and not by who's driving it. On the passenger question, I didn't ask the track today but I would doubt that they will do it. I also really don't like the idea..just my thoughts on the subject.

Jason,

Sorry to hear about the job situation and I tried to call you today to tell you a place in Rock Hill that would probably interest you but you have to promise me if you get a job there, you will get me one there too! :) Their average pay is 80K a year! Also, a big THANK YOU for putting these other guys on our event. Although seeing 180 plus downloads of the registration form really concerns me. :D

Linn,

I'll leave the certificate donation up to you but I'd rather you did a small cash award to the winners of the bracket race....$200.00 sounds really good. ($100.00 for each class) You are free to set up a display like you did in the Fall for being a sponsor of the event.

Mike,

I'd wait to see what the weather does by Thursday and we will know for sure by then if we are going to go with a rain date. That date has already been determined when I called the track today. If it rains....and I say if it rains, then we will reschedule the event for March 25, 2006. I know this is our Pizza cruise but the track event takes priority and the Pizza cruise in will be rescheduled for a later date. The reason we are going with that date is because if you win the NMRA award, the Silver Dollar event is the next weekend. Having it after that event would be a moot point for the winner of the trophy and weekend.

Please check this site for the final word as to whether it is a go or it is being reschedule, thanks.

Adam,

If you did not prepay then you will have to pay the full price at the gate of $50.00. I know that sounds like a lot but believe me, it's worth it. I had some people tell me it cost too much till they came to the event and participated. They later came up to me and said they definitely got their money's worth. Best thing to do is prepay...you won't lose your money because if the event is cancelled then your fee applies to the next event you can attend.

Sorry for the late reply but I hope it answers everyone's concerns.

Tony,

what happens if we make the call to race - then around noon the bottom falls out? A concern from a participant on another board:

so i guess that means if i pay 50 bucks and it rains, ill be blowing 50 bucks on zilch...man i have a bad feeling about thisjust tell me how to respond

James,

We'll make the call tomorrow and if it looks like rain even if it is 30% chance, we'll use the rain date of March 25, 2006. Just check the board tomorrow night, if the weather turns out nice anyway...then that's just the chance we have to take. I'd rather have it at a later date with no rain then now with a good chance of rain. Let's just decide tomorrow night and then we can all make our plans for the weekend.

Just check the board tomorrow night, if the weather turns out nice anyway...then that's just the chance we have to take. I'd rather have it at a later date with no rain then now with a good chance of rain. Let's just decide tomorrow night and then we can all make our plans for the weekend.

I can agree with this Tony!! It surely wasn't any fun when there was 20% chance of rain and it POURED buckets...

gunna be out of state on the rain date, but i think were good to go anyways!
if it rains i think itll rain later at night, from the looks of weather.com i think the wind will work in our favor and hold it off in full till sunday with chance of rain later saturday afternoon.

Ok.....I think we might be good...
we can compare and contrast fri-sat-sun
fri(wind blowing SE@8mph) wind bringing rain toward us

sat(wind blowing 9mph sw) hopefully holding rain back blowing away from us

Weather .com right now says 40% with rain starting at 6am and it shows rain at 9am. Here is the link where it shows the details.

Clicky (http://www.weather.com/weather/detail/USSC0168?dayNum=2)

We really want to race this weekend and have been looking forward to it for weeks/months now but driving 2 1/2 hours to sit in the rain would not be any fun at all.

I will BBL to see the final decision. If it is not called and "we" still don't care to chance the long drive is SCMC willing to give us credit on the next event? You know we will be planning for it too!!!

thats another thing that sucks,

Ill be out of town march 17th-26th so i would miss the make up date-so itd be basically SOL on the 50 bucks...

All I know is if they cancel it,itll more than likely hold off most of the day,
and of coarse if they dont-----itll try harder to rain...thats how it goes.

Regardless ive been doing all this work crunching to make saturday, and weather is going to screw it up..sitting in a corner and whining wont do anything but i damn sure can be bithchy about it.

Well if you can't make the rain date and they do call it then you may be able to get credit for the November event. They hold this event 2X a year. That's basically what I was asking about in my last post...

Usually a missed event due to weather results in carry over.

If it is a rain date of the 25th, can some of us register and show up for the $35?

I probably could make that date :bounce:

I just put a new motor in my car and need to work out the kinks. It's killing me not being able to get out and race it! Grrr

I can't make the rain date, so my fingers are crossed for good weather. I hope Tony doesn't make a call too quickly. I would wait until tomorrow afternoon before making a final decision. Meteorology is like reading tea leaves.

cobrabitn
02-16-2006, 11:20 PM
All,

It does not look good...with a 60% chance of rain, I think we need to go to the 25th of March. If you only knew how depressing it is to go to a track and have it rain, it hurts more then having the event scheduled for a later date. Like you, I always look forward to this event every year but we had some good days last year, the weather gods just aren't with us for this event.

If you preregistered for the event then you have a credit for another SCMC track event. You can use it for the March event or the November Fall event. You can even use it toward an SCMC open track event. We have one coming up next month in Kershaw, SC. It is not our intent to take your money and not give you what you paid for, and I know everyone on this board will tell you we pride ourselves on operating honest and straight up. If you plan to attend the March event, just post here and if you want to have your fee applied to the November event, let me know that too. I'll go ahead and start up a November thread and put your name as paid on it so there is no mistaking who is preregistered. We'll have a new cut off date for preregistration of March 15, 2006. So you can take advantage of the discount if you like.

(YelSVT03...you'll get a $75.00 credit for the Fall event, e-mail me before you prepay for your discounted price)

Today I got the NMRA package that contained the free show entry certificate, a 2006 NMRA tee shirt, and a very nice plaque! Everything is here at the house, some cool non slip car dash pads for your keys and cell, 13 trophies, decals, event schedule, etc... Maybe this will be a good time to get a few more door prizes to distribute so if anyone knows of some people willing to donate a few trinkets, that would be cool. It's always been our intent to give you more then what you pay for and our drag events are no exception.

I hope you all will understand and bar nothing happens, we will see you on the 25th of March! Happy Racing.

Cold, miserable, and misty...taking the rain date will hopefully give us a better weather date. We are actually supposed to have the last weekend in February but for some reason the Corvette club got that over us and they shouldn't have. I don't know why they decided to change their date and get priority over us for the date we have been using now for 5 years. yikes, a 13 hour drive one way from where I am at. Wish I lived closer. It is too tempting not to go but also tempting to go. If I ever to make it down there I will just be a spectator. I would have no problem videotaping the entire event and finalize the whole thing on a DVD for anybody who would want a copy. I will try to make it as much as possible but I cannot promis I will be there. :(

Do I need to pre register as a spectator?

cobrabitn
02-22-2006, 11:25 PM
You don't need to register as a spectator but we're going to do something different this time. We're going to give away a "Micro-TV" to anyone who has the winning ticket number.

What we'll do is give everyone who pays to get in whether it is to spectate or run one raffle ticket. We won't be selling tickets that way everyone will get one chance, an equal chance, to win the TV. It's a really cool item to take with you in your car or use it at home. It has a 5 inch screen and can fit in the smallest of places. Let's do the drawing before the bracket race that way we can have everyone together for a driver's meeting.

Remember, the reason we are doing this in March and not April (rain date that is) is because we will be giving away a weekend pass to see the NMRA race in Silver Springs, GA. I believe you can enter your car in the show, too.

So...new for March 2006 are the following items:

1. Goodie bag with discount coupons for Pro-Dyno (while supplies last)
2. NMRA trophy (terms will be discussed when we have the driver's meeting)
3. Raffle ticket for a chance to win a Micro-TV for paying spectators or drivers
4. 12 trophies awarded (sponsored by MGW - best products anywhere)
5. Cash awards for the bracket winners

Also, the SCMC has some left over tees from 2005 we will be selling for $10.00 each. We will have limited sizes and colors available!

Spread the word about the event since we got rained out last week and let's have a big turnout like we did last Spring!

This time around it looks like I will not be comming down. May have to wait until the fall event. The 13 hour trip does not bother me all that much. Unfortunately I have to meet with the corporate heads on the day I was planning on leaving. It never fails, everytime I schedule some vacation time they tell me to postpone it. :( I may like my job but sometimes it is hard to excape the place when you want too. I just hope that this year does not turn out like last year when you have 3 weeks vacation time and you cannot use it until the end of the year.

I hate you cannot make it but there will be a Fall event and besides we have other events that are fun too! If you can, try to make one of these as they are a blast and they are family oriented so you can bring the wife and kids especially to the Tennessee event!

September 23-24, 2006 - 2006 SVT Cobra Nationals - South Haven, MI
October 13-15, 2006 - Dragon Run VI/Ted Russell Ford Show- Knoxville, TN
November 4, 2006 - SCMC/MGW Fall Drag Day - Jackson, SC

Besides, we have to talk about PA events.... :)

At least I have a second chance in the year to make one of the drag days. I will find out what is going on at work for this weekend. I doubt I would have the energy to drive down overnight. Something is brewing up at work and I may find out what that is today, more than likely it will be for a design of an OEM product for a sister company. The last time I was in one of the corporate meetings (which is not often), the company president came back to the Engineering department and said that we need a bigger office. I sort of got more ear time with the company owner than my boss who was not too happy about that. What ever the case work is work.

MGW - For providing the trophies
Pro-Dyno - For providing discount coupons for the event
Amazon Tuning - Donating $200.00 to the bracket winners!
The NMRA - For providing a cool trophy, tee shirt, and goodie bags
Summit Racing - Donating a cap for the event.

A "Special" thanks that made the event go off smoothly:

Burke Dawson - I don't know how I'd gotten through it without you and Dave!
Dave Stanfield and Tina (Friend) - Thanks for the help at the gate!
Maranda Stokes - For handing out the trophies
The Carolina Dragway Crew - You all are awesome! A big thank you to all of you for a job well done!

To all of the people that came to watch and participate....without you all, there wouldn't be an SCMC Drag Day! Y'all make it what it is and you do a good job at it.

This is also a time for you to shoot an e-mail to me for your likes and dislikes about this event and how we can improve on it. We value your input so we can have a better event each time we get together!

We will announce the "Official" winner list in another thread. See y'all in November for our Fall Meet!

P.S. I'm also very proud to announce my new times for my 94 Cobra that is starting to get some respect from me for not being a "Slobra" any more. 14.17 @ 100.3 mph  This car is very capable of 13's for now!

We had an awesome time as always with the other club members today and look forward to the Nov. event. Thanks to everyone involved.

Thanks from the Bugcrew,

Bugman, was that you in the yellow vert I ran after the awards were given out? Whoever it was, great runs. Our cars were well matched. Too bad neither of us got good launches on the same run to match it out at the end.

Ok, people. I know why Carolina Dragway is the "House of Hook". I always run my best times down there. Excellent track!

Post up your personal bests if you achieved them on saturday.

Mine: 11.65 at 120mph :bounce:

Stylin99, that was Ronnie Stokes that you ran in the 04 vert. Yeah he said that you guys ran once and then switched lanes and ran again. He said that is would have been a good run with both of you hooking on the same pass.

I had a couple good runs with you.:D Comp Orange Cobra, with the Black wheels:thumbsup:

No that wasn't me this go round. I haven't brought the Cobra to the track since the ladies started racing. My wife was in the burgundy 85 T-top and my daughter was in the white 91LX hatch. Their first pass together we didnt get any video and it was her only bottle pass running a 10.57 @ 126 with a 1.47 60 ft.

Our 16yr old daughter did run her best ever motor pass with a 12.49 @ 109. We had a few issues with the nitrous so she only had one 1/2 pass on the bottle with a 11.82 I think it was.

But it was a hoot either way and we will be looking forward to the Nov. event.

P.S. I was the fat ugly
guy in the purple shirt. :}

My personal best with the 94 Cobra was a 14.17@100.3mph. The car is capable of 13's easy with that trap speed........ I left my freaking drag radials at the house and now I wish I hadn't. :(

thanks again for a great event!!
first run off the trailer set the LT1 bolt on Record at 11.80 but the next pass put it on the trailer, not sure yet what is wrong. Will work on that later, got some other stuff to deal with around the house.

Looking forward to the November event!

Great air & awesome track prep! My worst pass was better than my best pass last November!

Low ET for me was:
60' 1.655
330' 4.715
1/8th 7.202@100.170
1000' 9.342
1/4 11.144@125.580

I made one pass after the rental was up waiting 90 minutes & bogged so bad Ginger nearly cut off... had a decent MPH after powershifting (only time today) 11.472@ 128.66 mph...

ya she ran that against me on round 1 of the brackets, I totally messed up a shift which put me way off my dial in, all she had to do was slow down at the finish cause she was ahead of me and she would have taken that round. best I could muster that day was a 12.17 at 115mph. but I am glad that after all these years of being stuck in eastern NC that I moved here to columbia and could fianlly make this event, it was awasome and it nudged me to renew my membership that I am putting in the mail today.

Well I wish we would have met you so we know who you are. We met a ton of new people as we always do but with me running the 2 ladies and the Jr. Dragster I was running wild as usual.

What was your dial in and what is your best times? The track felt really good but we couldn't seem to get anything to go our way except the few motor passes that my wife made in the brackets. Our daughter broke out her first passing running her best ET ever on motor so I guess something went right. :}

Since you are renewing we will have to run em again in November. Make sure that you come introduce yourself so we know who you are.

Until then... Stay safe.

Yeah BugMan I was going to come by and introduce myself, but it looked like you had your hands full and I didn't want to bother you. I'll be sure to introduce myself come the November event.
Great runs by the way and kudos to your wife and daughter

We run an exterminating company and that's what everyone has been calling me for many years so I figured that I would just roll with it since battling it was a losing battle. ;)

jeffsvt really snapped some great pix that day. I was impressed with mine, too. If his Terminator is down this coming November - could we consider hiring him (if he was willing) to cover the event? Just a thought. His pics are that good!

cobrabitn

Usually Allan Scott does the pics for drag day but Jamie Player would have first shot at doing it professionally since he inquired first.

We don't pay people to do photos for our events. If we can have a professional photographer come in to our events and provide the club with a CD of all the pics in high resolution then we will consider allowing them to shoot the event. Ed Coon did our CMP event and he provides the club with a complimentary CD. If a photographer is looking to make money off selling their pics at an SCMC event and charging the club to come and shoot the event then they'll find themselves outside the gate.

If you know of someone that is willing to meet our criteria then we'll consider allowing them to attend the drag day for a photo shoot.

Thanks,

Tony

Thanks for the rules/background Tony - and I wasn't speaking on Jeff's behalf, either. He's an enthusiast who would have been racing but with a broke.T Terminator at the moment he was a spectator handling some decent camera equipment. It's my opinion he took pics rivaling Even Smith & others employed by PhotoMagic that covers the FFW events.

Did any of the photogs you mentioned take pics at the last event & if so are they available anywhere?

I think Allan did the Fall event but no one did the Spring event this year. I thought Allan was coming down but he didn't. Jamie could have come had I known that, however, if Jeff wanted to snap some photos that would be fine but again he will have to meet our criteria.
