I want to get a wider set of tires (which means wider rims over my stock 17x8s) for the track. Any thoughts on 17 vs 18? I know 18's would have less tire deflection due to the smaller sidewall, but the wheels and tires get more expensive.

17x9 is the way to go. Less expensive, lighter weight, easier to find.

Here is a great option available right now for wheels.

DEAD ON THE MONEY!!!! (WOW they really dropped the price on those genuine Ford "tenth" wheels!!!.... I want some!!! :flip: )

Less rotational weight and unsprung weight!!!
Less initial expense... for both the wheels and the tires!!!
Less replacement expense for the "renewables"(tires!!!)

The handling of a GOOD 275/40R/17 is superb!!! Sidewall deflection will not even be noticeable compared to the 285/35R/18.

The contact patch is more than adequate!!!

Outstanding selection of high grip dot legal tires available in that size... some at VERY competitive prices.

I'm running a 220 wear rating Sumitomo that handles great, hooks great, and only cost around $110.00/115.00!!! I love em!

I'd rather have some Nitto NT 01s or 555 RIIs.... but I'll just have to make do for a while...

17 X 9" !!!..................Get them as light as you can find.

The 1oth wheels are ~24.5 lbs each. If you want some of the lightest wheels get the Konig Villians from Maximum Motorsports they weigh 21 lbs but cost $170. If you are not racing and just want track wheels I say save some $$$ and go for the 10th wheels.

Will the 10th anniversary wheels clear the big 4-piston front brake kits? Not planning on upgrading the front brakes at this point, just curious since most 17" wheels seem to have trouble with those.

Never mind - just saw on CC that they do clear... Seems that pretty much all of the 17x9 factory wheels clear the big brakes. Its the 17x8's that mostly don't work (the R wheel being the exception).

Kinda sucks the 17x8s won't clear the '00 R Brembos b/c I have 2 sets of '97 Cobra rims... :(
