I will be geting my 97 cobra vert. this weekend.. I plan on doing intake full exhaust and under drive pulley's. After this i would like to know what is the next practical upgrading step to add more hp before I do a supercharger...

4:10 gears will make it feel like it just gained 30 rwhp. :)

another quick question... I heard that when you go with an O\R regardless of H or X that you need some kinda tuner or something to deal with the CEL.. is this true if so are the catted ones simple plug and play? thnx for ur time

hmm, I always understood the catted x and h's to be just bolt in and go. I may be wrong, however.

The cats will keep you legal, for the 96-98 should you choose not to use cats. You can use mil elliminators. That will prevent the CEL from lighting.

do i just plug the sensors from the stock exhaust into the mil eliminators and thats it... or do they go somewhere else?

don't some states look for the cats, though? I know NC is a real strict state.

NC does a visual inspection and in some counties, like the one I live in they plug into the odbII port and then send the readings to raleigh for approval. But alot of states don't even do a visual. Your milage may vary!

I know I watched them put the Cobra on a lift the last time it was inspected. So, catted x or h for me, if I ever get one.

I agree entirely with Cobrabitn on this issue. The original owner of my '96 coupe added 4.10:1 gears, and it can really dance right down the highway--very nice for cruising at 75-80 mph on longer trips.

And, to really wake the Cobra convertible up, you might also want to add 31-spline axles while you're in the differential--and, while you're at it, a Ford Racing aluminum driveshaft.
