This is the official registration form and participant list for the March 24, 2007 SCMC/MGW Drag Day & All Ford Show.

We moved the Drag Day into March to be able to have better weather and have a car show with it. The track rental cost also went up but we are going to keep the registration fee still affordable so we can give you the maximum track time and still be able to give out trophies and some cash.

Click below for a registration form.

Do you have any details on the car show?

1. Number of entries?
2. Classes
3. Judging Rules
4. Awards (1st place only, top 3, etc)

Thanks

This is an "All Ford Show with the "Top 25" cars as the winners. Our first show had 9 cars but we didn't get to advertise it like we will this one. Most people didn't know about the show... we'll have two or three judges go around and select the "Top 25" of the total number off entrants. The judges will not have cars entered in the competition to keep the selection of the winners fair.

im new to the area from cali...how far is the track from knoxville??

cobrabitn

It's a good piece from Knoxville, TN, maybe 6 or 7 hours. Of course you are welcome to come out and have some fun, maybe do an overnighter as some of the racers come in on Friday and leave on Sunday. You definitely couldn't do it in a day.

We have several SVT Cobra Club activities in the Knoxville area. There's an annual car show at Ted Russell Ford, several 411 autocross events, a Dragon Run (318 curves in 11 miles), and we'll be planning another cruise not too far from K-town.

If you like car shows then we have numerous shows within the southeast including Charlotte NC, Winston-Salem NC, Atlanta GA, and of course TN. Check the front page of the website for more shows, track events, and cruises in your area. www.svtcobraclub.com.

Supposedly a bunch of folks from Modular Power House will be coming to the race to run against several cars from ATS. They are also asking several questions that I cannot answer, like are roll cages required and if so at what ET's etc. Do we have a list of the rules we can post up so everyone will be in the "know"? Thanks!

List updated!

Greg, the track goes by IHRA rules so whatever their rules are, those are the ones we have to abide by. I'm sure they can do a search on the Internet for the IHRA rules and that should answer their questions. If all else fails, they can call the track and get a direct answer. www.carolinadragway.com Hope that helps! :)

IHRA RULES....basically if you're a vert, have a roll bar...if you're running below 10.00's, have a cage...if you're running below 13.00, have a helmet....

ROLL BARS{reprint from IHRA Rulebook}
Mandatory in all cars running 11.49 or quicker, or per class
requirements. All roll bars must be within 6 inches of the rear or
side of the driver's head, extend in height at least 3 inches above
the driver's helmet with driver in normal driving position, and be at
least as wide as the driver's shoulders or within 1 inch of the
driver's door. Rollbar must be adequately supported or cross-braced
to prevent forward or lateral collapse. Rear braces must be
of the same diameter and wall thickness as the roll bar and
intersect with the roll bar at a point not more than 5 inches from
the top of the roll bar. Sidebar must be included on driver's side
and must pass the driver at a point midway between the shoulder
and elbow. Swing-out sidebar permitted. All roll bars must have in
their construction a cross bar for seat bracing and as the shoulder-
harness attachment point; cross bar must be installed no more
than 4 inches below, and not above, the driver's shoulders or to
side bar. All vehicles with OEM frame (i.e. pickup truck where body
bolts to framerails) must have roll bar welded or bolted to frame.
Installation of frame connectors on unibody cars does not
constitute a frame; therefore, it is not necessary to have the roll bar
attached to the frame. Unibody cars with stock floor and firewall
(wheeltubs permitted) may attach roll bar with 6-inch x 6-inch x
.125-inch steel plates on top and bottom of floor bolted together
with at least four 3/8-inch bolts and nuts, or weld main hoop to
rocker sill area with .125-inch reinforcing plates, with plates welded
completely. All 4130 chrome moly tube welding must be done by
approved TIG heliarc process; mild steel welding must be done by
approved MIG wire feed or approved TIG heliarc process. Welding
must be free of slag and porosity. Any grinding of welds prohibited.
Roll bar must be padded anywhere driver's helmet
may contact it while in driving position. Adequate padding must
have minimum 1/4-inch compression or meet SFI Spec 45.1.

blk04cobra1
01-12-2007, 09:53 AM
other post too long, here's the rest...

ROLL CAGE{reprint}
Mandatory in all cars running quicker than 10.99 seconds or faster
than 135 mph, or per class requirements. Cars with unaltered
firewall, floor and body (from firewall rearward, wheeltubs
permitted) running between 10.00 and 10.99, roll bar permitted in
place of roll cage, or per Class Requirements. Cars with altered
firewall, floor faster than 11.49 must have rollcage and window net.
All cage structures must be designed in an attempt to protect the
driver from any angle, 360 degrees. All 4130 chrome-moly tube
welding must be done by approved TIG heliarc process; mild steel
tube welding must be approved MIG wire feed or TIG heliarc
process. Welding must be free of slag and porosity. Any grinding of
welds prohibited. Additionally, roll cage must be padded anywhere
the driver's helmet may contact it while in the driving position.
With driver in driving position, helmet must be in front of main
hoop. If helmet is behind or under main hoop, additional tubing,
same size and thickness as roll cage, must be added to protect
driver. Main hoop may be laid back or forward, but driver must be
encapsulated within the required roll cage components. On
unibody cars with stock floor and firewall (wheel tubs permitted),
the roll cage may be bolted or welded to the floor/rocker box via 6-
inch x 6-inch x .125-inch steel plates
Unless attaching to OEM floor or frame, the minimum requirements for a
frame member to which a roll cage member is attached are 1 5/8-
inch x .118-inch MS or .083-inch CM round and/or 2-inch x 2-inch
x .058 MS or CM rectangular.
All cage structures must have in their construction a cross bar for
seat bracing and as the shoulder-harness attachment point; cross
bar must be installed no more than 4 inches below, and not above,
the driver's shoulders, or to side bar. All required rear braces must
be installed at a minimum angle of 30 degrees from vertical and
must be welded in. Side bar must pass the driver at a point midway
between the shoulder and elbow.
Unless an OEM framerail is located below and outside of driver's
legs, a rocker or sill bar, minimum 1 5/8-inch x .083 CM or .118 MS
or 2-inch x 2-inch x .058-inch CM or MS rectangular, is mandatory
in any car with a modified floor or rocker box within the roll-cage
uprights (excluding 6 square feet of transmission maintenance
opening). Rocker bar must be installed below and outside of
driver's legs and must tie into the main hoop, the forward hoop,
frame, frame extension, or side diagonal. Rocker bar may not tie
into swing-out side bar support. If rocker bar ties into side diagonal
more than 5 inches (edge to edge) from forward roll-cage support
or main hoop, a 1 5/8-inch x .083 CM or .118 MS brace/gusset is
mandatory between the diagonal and forward roll-cage support or
main hoop.

They require a helmet for everybody - even if you are slower than 13's.

Is the track open to all cars or just Ford's?

The list has been updated again!

I need y'all to help spread the word about the "Top 25" All Ford show so we can have show people and racers at the same event. Most show people don't want to race but don't mind coming out and putting their car in the show.

If you know of anyone that would want to sponsor the event, we could use some help there too. I'd like to be able to repeat the same purse if not more if we can get some more sponsors for the event. A good goal would be $1000.00 to the winner and $500.00 for the runner up for the Terminator Race but no way we can reach that with the increased track cost. So if you know of some vendors who may want to come out and set up then we're going to ask them for $40.00 for the day to set up their table.

If someone wants to sponsor then the fee is $250.00 and they will get their name on the trophies, have their own SCMC forum, and banner for the bulletin board. That is for every 6 months, if they do it twice a year, then they get a full year of advertising in the forums.

Please remember this, if you are not an SCMC member, you can not run in the club bracket race. You have to run in the "open bracket" race. If you are a member and run in the open race, you cannot run in the SCMC bracket race. We do two bracket races so everyone will get a chance to win some cash. We also do bracket racing so the less modified cars have an equal chance to win the cash going up against the highly modified cars. SCMC purse is higher than the open bracket race and last Fall we had a ton of cars going for the $500.00 purse and $250.00 respectively.

If you own a Cobra, then we hope you will join the SCMC and take advantage of the club benefits. Maybe you can ask Chris Lord if he thought it was worth it to be a member after he received his $500.00 in cash at last year's Fall event!

Let's go have some fun! For those of you that are into smack talk...let me just say you better watch out for my 5.0 Rio Red Cobra because it is going to kick some tail out there! :rotf:

"Maybe you can ask Chris Lord if he thought it was worth it to be a member after he received his $500.00 in cash at last year's Fall event!"

Hey Tony I can obviously say that it was worth being a member to have a chance at winning top prize ;) But if it wasn't for our sponsers (ATS, Prodyno, MGW etc..) and hard working guys like yourself I don't think this event would be near what it has been the past few years. So Tony thanks for all your hard work and I look foward to seeing you guys in March

Well you know we will be there!!! We really enjoy the events/track and picking on James. Now seeing that Robert is going to be there we must come and pick on him for a little payback...

For you newbies or ones that are not aware of our little rivalry, he picked on my wife several times when she first got into racing and now it is time for a rematch...

Robert we have not forgotten you and really glad to see you are going to be at this event. It will be great to see you and race with your family again. I think the last time we saw you we helped you get your car loaded after your motor blew on ya.

Joking about the rivalry since we know who is faster but I had to pick a little. :)

It's 17 miles south of the normal exit we usually meet at, exit 82. You have a trailer, Vernon has one, I'll have one and at exit 65 they have plenty of room for us. This is the best place I can think of for a meet, hence the 15 minute later leave time. BTW, we'll also be using the Aiken exit to get to the track instead of exit 5 in North Augusta. It saves us some time to get there...

Tony, what's the faster route through Aiken? I usually take exit 5 down at N. Augusta but you're right the trip through Aiken looks more direct. I don't see a good bypass through Aiken though? Do you have a solid route for people that have trailers so we're not going through downtown Aiken?

I may or may not be in the caravan down so I want to make sure I know the way, if I take that road....

Steve,

You get out at exit 16 I believe (Hwy 1) and take it to Hwy 125 then take a left and go down to the track. You do not go through town to get there... Of course we got lost coming out since it was night time but now it should be daylight. I'll be bringing a map just in case..

Josh,

The two 4 foot trophies are ready for pick up on Thursday or Friday. If you are not racing or showing, let me know and we'll put you to work helping out either Burke or myself at the front... :rotf:

Thanks!

I just looked at mapquest, and I can't see where it's any faster, unless there's less lights. Route 1 goes through downtown Aiken with some kind of right turn involved to stay on 1.

I think I'm just going to head the old way, and see if I beat you guys there first. :D Then we'll know.

Having never attended this event before, I have a couple of questions. I see from the Carolina Dragway site that this event is from 10am-5pm. What time does the track open? What time does Test and Tune start Saturday morning? When do the time trials start for non-club members? Is this on a Pro or Sportsman tree?

If there is a website or thread that answers these questions, please point me to it.

Also, I doubt this matters, but you have our cars listed as GTs, both are Cobras. Kevin Harvey and Dawn Stowers (I didn't put that on the registration, so my oversight, not yours).

Thanks.

We're glad you are coming out to our event this Spring. You want to post your questions here in this forum so we can give you accurate information straight from the top.

The event starts at 10:00 a.m. and the "test and tune" portion starts right after that or until they have the track prepped 100%. We run test and tune for 4 hours where some people got as many as 30 passes. In the afternoon we stop the testing and set up for the "bracket race". The ladies bracket is first then the club members go. The "open" bracket race runs last since some members may not want to run in the club race but rather the open race.

Whatever it is called when the lights go down from yellow to green is the type of tree we use.

Awards are given out around 4:15 p.m. depending on how many cars we have attending and how long it takes to get through with the competition. The event is over at 5:00 p.m. Usually, the track would let everyone stay and not have to pay but in the Fall event they failed to tell us about their change in policy and if you wanted to stay for Saturday night grudge racing, you had to get a new number and oay their fee.

I didn't put your cars down as Cobras since you never specified. I'll change it on the first page for ya though..

Thanks for the info; very helpful.

So there is a ladies bracket race in addition to the club and open? If so that is cool.

For those of you coming down from Greensboro on Saturday morning, what time do you think you will come past Exit 36 on I-77 at Mooresville?

We could be at the end of the ramp and jump in behind you so you don't have to exit.
