List Updated!

I wanted to clarify about the CMP fees before participants send in the wrong amount for their entry fee. Please post if you are not sure you understand what the cost is for two days at CMP with us.

Event Fee before March 1, 2007 - never attended this SCMC event = $290.00
Event Fee before March 1, 2007 and previously attended this event = $270.00
Event Fee before March 1, 2007 and are a Cobra Club member = $260.00
Event Fee after March 1, 2007 = $315.00

Event Fee for one day before March 1, 2007 = $150.00
Event fee for one day after March 1, 2007 = $175.00

Registration fees have been increased because for 2 years in a row, CMP raised their rates from $3500.00 to $3750.00 a day to $4000.00 a day plus increases in corner workers rates, increased insurance rates, per car fee, ambulance rates, tow vehicle rates, etc... Last year we kept the fee the same but this year we are not able to do it. The event is $260.00 for members and that's still a low cost weekend at this track. This is the most fun you can have in your Cobra. Now, we could go 5 run groups and get less track time and charge less but in the past participants have said they'd rather pay the extra and get the seat time. With this event, you will get a survey to let us know if you'd rather have more track time or pay less and get less time on the track for 2008.

If you attend this event, you have "priority status" for our scheduled VIR event in June. That means you get first shot at going to VIR with us as a group. Please feel free to post any questions you may have concerning this event.

Thanks,

Tony

Tim,

You need an SA 00 rated helmet or better and if your Saleen is a convertible (which it probably isn't), you'll need a rollbar. Download the events packet and it will explain everything you need for this event.

Thanks,

Tony

My '87 Saleen is a hatch, it has good tires and has no leaks of any kind. I guess all I need from what I read is a properly rated helment, and whatever restraint device I have in the driver's seat, needs to be present if I have an instructor. Is this a correct statement?

So from the literature, I dont need a fire extinguisher, and IF i were to have a battery relocation kit, I dont need a battery cut off switch?

Certainly appreciate the help guys!!!

That is exactly right! I have the relocation kit and no cutoff switch. I do not have a mounted fire extinguisher either. Bring your helmet and your car and you should be good to go!

one more dumb question, then i'll be set...

It says that if i need an instructor (which i do), if I am using a harness, it is requested I provide one for him/her as well. So if i were to buy something like a 4 point scroth autocontrol which by the time its all said and done will set me back a few hundred, could a 4point $70 corbeau be put in the passengers side? Or does it have to be exact? I dont really feel like dumping $500 on harnesses lol..but $300ish is a bit more acceptable

cobrabitn
01-18-2007, 07:36 PM
As long as you have something to keep you and your instructor in place then it is fine. You don't want to make your instructor move around in the seat while you are planted in, it wouldn't be fun for him/her nor would it make for a great learning experience.

I havent registered yet for fear I wont have a few key things i'll need like a harness and such...i really dont feel like sliding around all over the place at high speeds. Hopefully if i can swing it, there will be room to register. All else fails I'll just come up and watch, maybe ride along and get some tips ect.

Wow, it's going to be great getting passed by all these fine cars! With my car and inexperience, you can just think of me as a big orange cone and one more thing to go around on each lap. ;)

I just sold my 5.0 Fox body, am a member of Full Throttle Stangs, and am quite familiar with the capabilities of even stock Cobras, let alone these, and a GT40!

We'll do the best we can to group people by experience and car capabilities. This will be a fun time as well as a great learning experience.

Tony - I was watching the list, and I guess perhaps you ought to move me into the D group also, that way we'll keep all the MINI's together. Now, I'm used to being out-horsepower'd, (it's Just a Cooper), but with 115hp I don't want to get in the way of all these Cobra's. I wave my arm out the window enough as it is. However it works out for you, I'll go either way, but the D group looks smaller anyway.

Looking forward to it,
Rob

That's what I need...some input. We'll try to keep you all together but you never know as some people would get their feelings hurt if it was insinuated they weren't a good driver. Group D is for people who have zero experience on the track but we can move you there, no problem.

Hi,

I am representing the car club from Emory University. We are students interested in this track day - How many spots are left in the Entry level run group and how many are left in the Intermediate run group? We have two of us with experience at CMP w/ PCA and the rest with none or very little track experience, there are a total of maybe 4-6. We drive a variety of cars from Nissans to BMWs (one of ours had a scary fast SVT, but he has graduated last year). Thanks in advance,

Yuda

Is there any chance of getting bumped up to group B once we are at the event. I will be on R-compunds this year and would like to have a chance to push the car. I am a little worried that I will be running down my group and that gets annoying for all drivers. Last year on street tires I was turning lap times with group 3 which has now been named group B. I will run which ever group you put me in I don't really care. Just thought it might be better to save some headache. I just want some seat time. :D I can't wait till March!!!

With the addition of XP12's and brake ducts I shouldn't have brake probs this year!!!! If anyone is looking for a set of rotors. Check out RockAuto.com 4 rotors shipped for $108. Can't beat that!!

You only show doing 2 road course events on your registration form. You'll be mixed in with others that have done numerous events and some just a few like yourself. Well... its been a while but I'm jumping back into the SCMC starting at CMP. I haven't been doing much for a while because of school/starting a new career/ buying a house/getting married in May. Dang! Its been a busy year!
I have a couple of questions about CMP... I have only done one track event and that was in 2000 so I'm going to say I'm completelly new to this. Where is a good place to get harnesses and which type should I get? My car is slightly modified but will have significant suspension upgrades and a power adder within a year. Do I "need" harnesses or can I wait. Today, I put on new rotors, pads, rearend lube change, and an oil change and I'm doing the tranny fluid tomorrow so I'm almost ready. I'm bringing the Cobra but I wish I could talk my fiancee into letting me use the Cooper S at the track. Anyway, I guess I just had to ask about the harnesses. Really looking forward to the event!

You mean your fiancee won't let you take her MINI and track it? I just don't know what to say. MINI's love tracks.

Seriously, while harnesses are a great thing to have, I think you'll be fine with your standard belts. The instructor is the one that really needs them anyway, they don't have a steering wheel to hang on to. :D

Yes you can sign up for one day and if you want to do two, you can do that too. The cancellation policy is your fee gets applied to a future club event.

Four run sessions per day, 30 minutes each session or there abouts. Basically, two hours per day for each participant.

Too early to tell on the weather...it can easily change during the week.... Keep your fingers crossed! ;)

As of right now I will NOT be coming down for the CMP weekend. My wife has been diagnosed with Shingles and they are on her face near her eyes. This is about the most dangerous place to get them because if they go into your eyes it could cause temporary or even permanent blindness. Right now they are not in her cornea. The shingles are from the same virus that causes Chicken Pox and it effects the nerves. It is very painful and the blister itch like Chicken Pox. In fact if you have not had Chicken Pox you could catch them from someone with shingles, however you can' catch shingles from someone.

Tony, I'm very sorry that I won't be there this weekend to help with registration and tech. I HOPE that the situation has improved enough by the end of the month so I can make drag day. :(

Here's what I am trying to do as far as the numbers are concerned...

Group A - White Numbers
Group B - Yellow Numbers
Group C - Green Numbers
Group D - Blue Numbers

That will let people have the same number in different groups. If two people have the same number in the same group, I added the letter "A" to the end of one of them so everyone can get the number they want. We'll see how this works out at the event.

[QUOTE=cobrabitn]Here is what the shirts will look like. They will be long sleeve and white. I tried to get the Minis in there but the shirt was basically designed before y'all signed up. We'll try to add them in there at the next event.

Cool shirt! And to think we almost did not attend CMP this year. It is such a PIA to get the car ready in Michigan in February, that we intended to run a Shelby Club event later in the year instead. When vacation picks were awarded at work for 2007, the week of CMP was one of my weeks. I guess it was meant to be. We do look forward to seeing all the Southeast SCMC members. Now, back to the pole barn to work on the car. See you soon :bounce: .

Big Daddy, sorry to hear about the wife, we'll keep her in our hearts and thoughts.

Dan at Grassroots Garage did the tech spec and put in "race" brake fluid, oil change tomorrow, run flats come off and S03s go on Tue.

Looks like a a GREAT list of cars/drivers, thanks again for inviting us MINI types

Pro-Dyno will be bringing their mobile dyno to CMP so if you want to dyno your car to see how much hp it has, come on down.

Also, you will need to have your membership card to get in the gate as they have a new attendant at the track and we're going to request your membership card in order to get into the track. If you have a friend who wants to come in with you, they can get in on your card as long as they go through the gate when you do.

I don't have a member card but have payed for both days this weekend. How do I get in?:D

Will anyone be taking pictures there? I'd love to have a picture of my car out there turning laps

Thanks!

I was going to say for those of us that are not members how is that going to work? I figured they would just do the wrist bands like last year.

When you initially get there, anyone participating can get into the facility as they will have a participant list. The membership cards are mostly for people that try to come in after we all get inside and begin the event.

This is technically a closed event but not closed to your family or friends. It's not really anything different than previous years except anyone who tries to come in while the event is taking place will have to have a card to get inside.

Let's keep it simple as there's nothing big going on here.

Yes, we will have a professional photographer there and I'm going to see if we can get someone to do some video for the website for our new introduction.

Once I got signed off last year I took a couple people for rides. Is that still going to be ok this year? My Dad is coming along this year and I was hoping I could peak his interest enough to bring the Z06 next year.

I just wanted to thank everyone for putting on this event! I had a blast yesterday and it was my first time ever on a road course. All I can say is it was a great time for everyone. I really enjoyed driving Craig's 2001 Cobra at 115-120 mph sideways through the kink! :rotf:

All anyone could talk about all weekend is going to VIR with us.

Craig,

Thanks for being my instructor. It was definately a great learning experience for me! I will also have some better brake pads on my car next time out. Also thanks for the ride in that mean FR500 Cobra and your one hell of a driver! I left there feeling like I was taught by the best!:D

Thanks man! Glad you had a great time. Good brakes are a must for both safety and mental confidence. If you know you're going to get the car stopped, you'll concentrate on driving the proper line, and not whether or not you're going to get the car slowed down. I could tell the inconsistency in the brake department was a mental distraction for you, as well as myself.

If you've got any questions, or need any help with anything, just let me know. I'm only a short drive from you (Lancaster). Glad to hear you're hooked on the "twisties"!

Craig

I'm definetly hooked! After I buy a "real person vehicle" (SUV) in May the Cobra will be taken off the street for the most part. I had planned on getting a blower BEFORE I went to CMP but instead I will be sending Max. Motorsports a small sum of money! HP is no longer a concern of mine... handling and learning how to drive is. I want to thank Craig for being my instructer and all the instructors for that matter. Also... thanks to all the club members who put on the event. I'd like to help next time.
