OK Midwest SCMC Members,

CRT Performance has posted their Track Dates for 2007 at Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio. They are as follows:

Weds 5/16 12-4pm
Fri 6/15 12-4pm
Weds 7/18 12-4 pm
Fri 8/17 12-4 pm
Weds 10/3 12-4pm

Make plans for one of these dates and come out and try your hand at Drag Racing. This is a learning, test & tune type of day at the track. Yes, there are experienced, high-power, sub-10 sec. cars BUT ALL ARE WELCOME and you will find all levels of cars and drivers there (even high powered bikes). I ran one of their days last fall as a rookie and it was a fantastic learning experience. If nothing else, this is a cheap opportunity to experience this type of racing and figure out if it is for you. Plenty of instruction is available!

Details can be found on CRT's website (www.crt-performance.com) and you can reserve your spot by calling Tammy Chambers at the shop at 419-668-4151.

How does 5/16 sound to everyone for a group outing? I know it is a Weds. but there is time to prepare and plan a day off. If not Friday 6/15 is a great date to shoot for. I know we are also talking about The World Ford Challenge in Indy that weekend as a group so planning is key.

I am signing up for both! See you there!

Mike-Thanks for the heads up. I will sign up for the first two, May 16 and June 15. Wednesdays are abit more of a challenge due to travel, but I really want to try this. I suspect my slow 04 won't be able to keep up with you and your experienced 97 dragster, but I'll try. Sounds like fun. I'm sure Michael will try to make one or more of these dates as well.

Beautiful!

Thus far....

Mark Monjot
Mike Monjot
Tony McConnon (did I spell your name right?)
Mike Redinger

Where are you BIGFISH!?

I asked Tammy what time we can be at the track...she said the gates are always open at Summit MP, but 11:00 am is advised to log-in and pay!

We can set a meeting place before hand for some late breakfast/early lunch if anyone is interested in that.

Name is spelled correctly Mike  . By the way Mike R., are these the guys that tuned your cobra? I'm thinking (tentative atm) about maybe having them tune mine and if I do, might shoot for the morning of the first run (i.e. 5/16).

Tony,

Yes they are.. I am very happy with the job they did. Just a little disppointing that I can't get 300 rwhp with all the stuff I have on this thing. The answer is a more aggressive cam - a project for another day.

I will give them a call and sign myself in for both dates. Should have the car back by middle of April and ready to go for another great summer. We will have to talk some more about the Ford Challenge in May - Indy - not sure I can do that and the drag day in Norwalk. Do not really care, the Norwalk event might be more fun.

Mike,

Trying to plan my days off at work - are you still planning on going to the CRT Performance Day at Norwalk on 5/16?

mojosvt
04-10-2007, 01:20 PM
I am off and ready to come to the first two drag days. I am also going to try and clear my schedule for the 3rd date. I most likely am not going to be able to make the 4th, as I am in a wedding that weekend. And I know I won't be at the last one, for if all goes as scheduled, my new born child will be 5 days old!...... Really wish I still had my 03, that would have been a heck of alot more fun in a straight line than the new ride. I will just have to steal the keys to dads mystic:D

Great looking forward to seeing you guys. Working on a deal to sell my 03' - I have located a 2000 R and am working on the guy to lower his selling price a little. Would love to have that car, only 2000 miles on it. all original

It is a real stretch right now, the guy owns it with no debt, and is trying to hold out for full value. However, he is finding MI people do not have the spare $ as they once did when the auto plants were all working - trying to wait him out - gave him a small $ retainer that allows me 48 hours to match any other offer he gets, but need to get my 03' sold first.

A 2000 R?! WOW!!!

Sad you are selling the '03 BUT for a 2000 R I would do that in a second.

I will be there on 5/16 without question with some new additions to the 97 which will make it faster, unique, and get me back in the roadcourse game!

Hope you guys are still thinking about at least the 1st weekend of the Hot Rod Power Tour in June ( see associated post )...

Driving Season is almost here despite the crappy weather lately!

See you all soon!

SvilleCobra

maybe 1.5 hours....most guys come up State Rte 250 is my guess.

Norwalk just south of the Huron/Sandusky area of northwestern Ohio.

You guys have fun at the drag strip and don't get discouraged with how your car performs. Most of you have made upgrades to stiffer springs and shocks which will kill your performance off the line and the result is probably going to be alot of tire spin. Just to give you an example the picture of my Camaro that you see with the front wheels in the air, it had 200# front springs that were almost twice the length of stock springs and no front sway bar, all to aid in weight transfer off the line. It was also automatic which makes getting off without tire spin easier. I ran my Cobra a couple of years ago and it just wasn't any fun at all trying how to take off without spinning the tires extremely badly or bogging the engine. Getting good performance at the strip is all about the first 60' of the track, a stock 97 set up right should go mid to high 1.6 sec 60' times, mine had 2.3 sec 60' times and still ran 14.2's, so set up correctly it would probably go high 12's in the 1/4 mile. Just have fun and don't get down if it doesn't run as well as you think it should. Any body interested in an AX there's going to be one this Sunday at National Trail Raceway this weekend, the Cadillc's got to be getting tired this will be the fourth in four weeks.

I already know that my car is going to be horrible at the drag, just looking for some mid week fun! Also, I have never done if before, and thought I would give her a try! I might see you sun, depends if family comes into town

Bigfish1956
05-08-2007, 10:49 AM
In talking with Paul from Pauls High Performance, he recommended for most owners of cobras to launch the car smoothly at 2000 RPM to avoid tire spin, then make the shift from 1st to 2nd at around 2500-3000 RPM and then making the final shift into third at 6000 RPM. He indicated just as discussed that you will experience a tremendous amount of wheel spin with any cobra and that the manual transmission does not help it out. Paul indicated you will feel like you are driving like an "old man" but your times will end up better by avoiding the wheel spin.

However, since this is my first time trying this out I am hopeful I just do not leave the line in reverse!:bounce:

I did the drivers school 2 weekends ago, and was going to run on sunday, but family was in town. Same story last weekend, and pretty much the rest of the year. I am going to try and sneak in as many as possible, just going to be tough.

I have a question chris, have you ever rebuild the trak-lok in your cobra? I think mine might be going.

psycho43142

Bigfish1956

It's time!

I spoke with CRT yesterday afternoon. The track gates will be open at 11 am w/ strip runs beginning at 12 noon and lasting until 4 pm. Don't forget your $35, a helmet if you have one, and to tech inspect your own car. The last thing anyone wants is to see another driver drop a ton of "liquid" on the track. Then everyone loses time during the pre-set hours.

MEETING PLACE - for those coming from the east or west. I-90, I-80 (Ohio Turnpike) are the best ways to get there. Take the Rte 250 exit and head south into Norwalk.
Once in city limits on Rte 250, you will enter a somewhat commercial area w/ car dealerships, stores, gas stations, etc.... On the right side of Rte 250 is an Arby's rest. ( they have a great Fri. night cruise if you are ever in the area) where I will be at 10:15 am. This is a great place to meet as it is only 4-5 miles from the track, is very visible, and is just before a key turn to go around Norwalk to get to Summit Motorsports Park. I will stay there until just before 11 am and then leave for the track.

If you are coming from any other direction and just want to get to the track it is located on Rte 18, just west of Norwalk, OH ( if coming from say, Columbus I would take 250 North to 18 and then to the track from there.) Directions are posted on the Summit Raceway website (www.summitmotorsportspark.com (http://www.summitmotorsportspark.com/))

I am told that we will enter the track off the Rte 18 gates as some recent paving and upgrades to the facility have closed the usual entry gates for a while. Keep that in mind.

My cell phone is 440-668-6951 if you get lost or have any questions.

Let hope the predicted storms get out of here before Weds. afternoon! I will have my camera and be submitting pics to the SCMC website so be prepared!

See ya'll soon!

Can't make it myself either. I'm writing this from Pittsburgh where I started a new job last Monday (Very nice promo and career move :) ). Put an offer on a new house today and will be commuting on weekends for a month or so until the final move is complete. Once things settle down for me, I'll plan on getting the snake down to play with you guys as much as possible, but until then, gonna be a relatively busy couple of months. One good thing, however, is that I'm about as close to Clevelend now as I was in Columbus, so I should be able to hook up with Mike and Mark more. John, you live up around erie, correct? Summit Show should be fun, there is a few local BuckeyeStang guys here in C-bus that might ride up with me. So we once again will have to all meet somewhere and cruise-in together.

Hopefully the weather will play nice for the next CRT day, as I still want to play with all the SCMC guys!

we might have to look further into that.

Like John said, the kreiger show is the sunday right after summit show.
