That's Mod Madness... NOT March Madness...

In preparation for "The Whipple"

Here is a link to the optional sound track to this thread(speakers on then minimize to background)

The "Jimmysidecarr version" HOT CLIMATE, GLOBAL WARMING PROOF, OPEN TRACK EDITION of the Evenflow head cooling mod.

Maybe I should just call it the Al Gore version....

DISCLAIMER...
Not for the lazy or faint of heart!!!
Much grinding for clearance required!

Both heads are given extra coolant flow... not just the left one.

The right head flow(toward the rear) is heavily restricted by Ford so that you don't POP your heater core while still covered by our ultra brief Ford warranty.

1st pic shows right head fitting in place... w/ silicone hose on(as yet unclamped)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v134/jimmysidecarr/Mystichrome%20SVT%20Cobra%202004/Evenflow%20mod%20and%20Blower%20swap/P3200027.jpg

2nd pic poorly illustrates rather extensive removal of lower intake overhang. To allow clearance for hose and fitting.

The left side needs no such extra work as the kit is designed quite well.

As progress is made....(When the whip comes down).... pics will be updated...

Looks great Jimmy, miss my car terribly and have been trying to find a Cobra for two weeks now, however it appears Al is helping to contribute to global warming.... AL is Hot (http://www.tennesseepolicy.org/main/article.php?article_id=367) ;)

Looking forward to the Blower Party!

I may have to revise it into a get together since it is ready for the blower RIGHT NOW!!!

And that is not very much notice for people....

Then it will be about a week before fire up takes place... YEAH RIGHT!!! How about several weeks...

Then tune time...

The whip is a lot heavier than the Eaton... and the rad and H/E will be heavier too when full....

So the battery is going in the trunk....

Lot's of little side projects I can do solo as time allows... I would still love to have some folks over though...

I have plenty of cigars... BYO beer though.... as I'm all done with alcohol from here on out. Gotta make stuff last. I'm out of warranty... big time!!!

Count me in Jimmy. I'm out of town this coming weekend, but I should be able to help the following. Just call me when you are ready.

I'm finally making some good progress..

The blower intercooler combo wasn't that heavy... Only 54.5 pounds.

With the rad(and the tanks), battery and tray removed you can stand in the engine bay... standing where the battery and air filter used to be.
No popped disks or strained back muscles...

Even an old curmudgeon can do it alone... ;) :p

I still need to start attaching the peripherals.

The clearance for my Road Race version of the Evenflow Cooling Mod (silicone hoses) appears to be quite adequate. I am however going to split a larger heater hose and slide it on the passenger side hose as a protective sleeve since it does touch the back edge of the lower intake blower assembly. Silicone hoses will last longer than the the engine if they don't get abraded or cut.

Thanks Keith!!

I pulled it back off... It was basically a dry run to make sure the intake to blower gasket(metal) would not slice my rt side silicone head mod hose..(it won't  )

I now know there are certain items that have to go on first with the Whipple...

Injectors and rail, egr valve, etc...

So that's what I'm doing right now... "bench loading" the sub-assembly...

I've gotten some pretty good tips from the Cobra community via PMs and posts and such on different forums.

Bottom line was... take it back off and load a couple more items first...

Man am I glad I can stand in there... battery and tray and air box removed, as well as rad and all tanks... Otherwise It would not be happening.

EDIT-------- Oh... I'm in Cypresswood near Kuykendahl(spelling??)

Blower and intake separated...
Injectors(60s) and rails on...
EGR valve on...
IAT2 sensor screwed down w/ blue loctite... what PITA that inside screw is!!! I had to shorten up the short end of brand new 4mm allen wrench!!!
PS: don't even bother with a hacksaw... TOO HARD. Get the grinder out!!! Then just clean up the flats on the end with a file.

I need to buy some #4 mini clamps for the vacuum/boost lines at work tomorrow... clamp up things and back on she goes...

Patience... Patience...

Time for a shower and bed... :D

Jimmy, just some knowledge from past Whipple installs I have done, Put the EGR on the blower after you have it down on the motor. It hits the the body and is frustrating trying to get it down with it on, It you put it on after you can use a small 10mm Wrech or short 1/4" socket and tighten it down.

What Pictures are you looking for on the install.

If you have any questions, feel free to give me a call.

I've done a few of the wipple intalls.

One of my unanswered questions so far is what stop on the tensioner is supposed to be ground off???

A pic of that would be great...
There is one to limit travel in the loosening direction.
And a stop to limit travel in the tension direction.

The Whipple directions say grind it off... but it is not too clear which one.

I made a little progress...

The #$!%@&%# belt is ON!!!.. I had to use a longer belt NAPA/Gates #080755.. Then it went right on.
The I/C line was not in the way after all.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v134/jimmysidecarr/Mystichrome%20SVT%20Cobra%202004/Evenflow%20mod%20and%20Blower%20swap/P4220067.jpg

I modded my coolant crossover tube since there was not enough room to use the fitting Don made for me in the Evenflow kit and also use the Evans in line T-stat unit.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v134/jimmysidecarr/Mystichrome%20SVT%20Cobra%202004/moddedcrossovertube.jpg

I bought a mini map gas torch kit (with Oxygen) so I could braze in my own fittings.

I made some pipe adapters into hose nipples to route the Evans T-sat bypass line. Just grind and file most of the threads off and leave some for a lip... take the sharp edges off and BADA BING!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v134/jimmysidecarr/Mystichrome%20SVT%20Cobra%202004/Evenflow%20mod%20and%20Blower%20swap/P4220068.jpg

This will get clamped to the original (now empty) T-stat housing.... then a 3/4" heater hose goes up to the Evans upper hose unit. This will be the bypass.

If you look close in the first and last photo you can see I plugged the old bypass outlet with a section of hose and a pipe plug I modded into a hose nipple/plug.

I also had to put a 90 fitting in the Canton I/C tank since it is now closer to the crossover outlet because of the BIG FAT LFP RADIATOR that is now in there. I also had to grind a little off of it for clearance... It looks like it's touching but it's not.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v134/jimmysidecarr/Mystichrome%20SVT%20Cobra%202004/Evenflow%20mod%20and%20Blower%20swap/P4220070.jpg

Next... finish clamping everything up.
Install the LFP H/E. Install the JLT 12" CAI.
Install the trunk mount battery kit.
Install the boost-a-pump.

Fill with coolant... fire it up ... check for leaks or malfunctions...

And of course get it tuned!!!

I'm going to hold off on the Canton oil pan, ARP 2000 rod bolts and the MM stuff for now.

The MM stuff yet to go on is ...
camber plates.......... 4 point K brace.... and rack bushings.

I REALLY MISS DRIVING THIS THING!!!!  (NOTE TO WEB MASTER... we need a better drooling smilie... one with real drool!!!)

I solved my upper hose dilemma..

Coolflex hose.. actually a metal tube. It's used quite a bit in Circle track racing, very tough... very leak free... and able to make serious crazy bends without kinks or collapsing.

That Big ol JLT left me very little room for my Evans stat.. and I had trimmed my stock hose too short so....
