Thought I would ask my SCMC brothers....I would like to buy a long block motor and put my stock motor in the corner to rest....

What company would you guys buy from?? ...and why???

Most of my driving will be on the road course and alot of street driving...

I was thinking 306 w/trick flow or AFR heads and a nice cam to match.....

Any help would be great looking to buy real soon......

Thanks

Phil

How much money are you willing to spend and what kind of power are you looking to get from it?

adperformance.com has the best prices on Dart blocks, which you won't ever have to wory about cracking.

If you aren't going over the 500rwhp mark, I'd op for a DSS shortblock with a custom Ed Curtis cam and some AFR 185's.

Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

Looking to spend around 4-6K and would like to see Hp#'s around 400+... :D

I have been looking at www.dssracing.com , www.keithcraft.com, www.coasthigh.com, but did not know who would be the best to go with....

Thanks

I would go with a 331 but then that's just me... :D

I haven't had any troubles with my custom built short-block with forged internals and a race girdle. It is a 331 with afr heads at about 550 flywheel horsepower, stock block. I don't know much about the "assembly line" short-blocks, but most people like the DSS stuff. The Dart block is the way to go for big power, so I hear.

Since 400+ is your goal I'd go with the DSS 331, but you're going to have to go with a nice set of heads and custom cam to get those numbers N/A

Good luck.

Get you a good intake, either holley or trick flow, the stock cobra will become a restriction if you want to hit 400+ na. Like others have said good cam, afr 185's, and definately a 331 is good start. Could always get you a blower too :headbang:

I'm making plenty of power with the stock cobra cam and lifters and a stock cobra *hand ported* intake on my 331 (it is seeing 10-12lb of boost, though).
