We will be doing our annual Summer Blue Ridge Parkway Cruise on August 11, 2007. This event has been changed to a "cruise only".

That means we'll be cruising Hwy 421 in NC into Tennessee then to Virginia across Hwy 58 and back down to Highway 421.

Here is the information you will need to know:

Meet Time: 10:00 a.m.
Meet Place: Shell station on Hwy 421 just east of I77
Lunch: Woodlands BBQ in Blowing Rock, NC
Directions: From Charlotte, NC go north on I77 to exit 73A. Go to the red light and the Shell station is on the right.

From VA, go south on I77 to exit 73A and go to red light. Shell station is on the right.

From Winston-Salem, NC go west on Hwy 421 till you see the signs for I77. Turn left into Shell station from the last red light before you reach I77.

Route: From Hwy 421 to Hwy 321 south toward Blowing Rock. We'll have lunch at the BBQ place and then go back to Hwy 421 where we will follow that route and go along the mountains till we reach the following destinations. (Please note, route may change if we get lost or decide we want to go a different way.)

Hwy 421 North to Mountain City, Tennessee
From Mountain City, TN north to Hwy 91 toward Damascus, VA
From Hwy 91 Damascus, VA to US Hwy 58 East (Jeb Stuart Hwy aka Highland Parkway)

Mike, it doesn't look good for us either. I forgot that the Panthers play Saturday night so I have to be home by 8:00 p.m. to see the game. Maybe we can do the rafting part another time. :doubt:

Might want to bring the 2-way radios for in car communications like when we do the Dragon.

Lost?!? Who's going to get lost?
That's what the GPS is for! ;)

Any plans to do dinner together like last time?
(It shouldn't take us 3 hrs.)

If you have any specific stops along the way planned tell me where and I'll put those in the map too.

I'll have both cameras and probably the computer too.

Is this still a Blue Ridge Parkway Cruise even though we aren't driving on the Blue Ridge Parkway?

Yes, because if I told everyone we were having a Wilkesboro, NC, cruise, they would look at me like I was stupid, hence BRP. We can always get on the parkway just to make it officially a parkway cruise. :rotf:

Thanks, Tim ..... hollywoodtb2001@yahoo.com :thumbsup:Tony will add you to the list, and you just need to be at the starting point (Shell station) at the start time. Tony has the directions in the first post on this thread to the shell station on 421 N, it is on the left just before you get to I-77.

We will be heading up 421 from Lewisville-Clemmons Rd in Clemmons. If you want to meet on the way to the Shell station let me know.

Great color on your Cobra!

Sure, we can meet at the CVS on Lewisville-Clemmons. When you get off of 421 N at the exit turn left (get in the left, left turn lane). When you get on Lewisville-Clemmons as you turn onto the bridge the left lane is the turn lane for 421 S so you will want to be over 1 lane as you get on the bridge.

Go straight through the light at the other side of the bridge to the next light at Marty Ln. (The CVS will be on the corner on your left at the light).

Turn left onto Marty Ln. There is a left turn lane to enter the parking lot behind the CVS.

go up the hill and turn left into the CVS parking lot and drive up to the Lewisville-Clemmons Rd. side. We will park by the exit onto Lewisville-Clemmons Rd.

It should take about 30 minutes to get to the Shell station from the CVS, so we should probably meet around 9:20.

I'll send you a private message with my cell #.

I should have a map or two and the cruise route directions all set up tonight for anyone interested. Some printed copies will be available when we met at the Shell station, but if you want a copy tonight you can send me a private message with your email address and I will send it to you as a PDF file.

It's going to be hot so be sure to prepare accordingly! :firebounc

Recommended cruise items:

Your Cobra. :D

Bring 2 way radios if you have them. Those that have more than one please bring all of them so those that do not have one can borrow one.

Cell phone.

Money for gas, food, or anything else you might want to buy.

Camera for taking pictures.

Cooler with drinks.

Dramamine if you have problems with motion sickness since there will probably be some very curvy roads.

GPS if you have one.

Spare tire. We had a cruise in TN last year where the one person that got a flat tire was the only one in the group that didn't have a spare.

We had a good small group. No one got lost, no one got separated, we had a very good lunch, and it is much more controllable when you have a small group like we had. We'll schedule it next year a week earlier so we won't have to deal with the Shady Valley Bikers!
