I have an '03 Cobra that I just started taking to a 1/8th track. The car probably has 500 hp and I just got some Mickey Thompson Drag Radials. I think if I could launch the car better (make use of the big drag radials!), my times would improve a lot.

Any pointers anyone?

What kind of times are you running? 60 ft and 1/8 mi. Are you heating the tires? Any braces or bushings on the car? You should be able to launch around 3000-3500 w/out worry for your half-shafts breaking as long as you brace your differential and replace the stock rubber bushings.

practice makes perfect...all of our cars are different, so you just have to find your sweet spot...You can also play with the air pressure in your drag radials, that'll help you hook a little easier.

60 ft time is a little over 1.9 with a 1/8th time of 8.02. I have MT drag radials and the car is stick. Do you just rev it around 3000 rpm and let the clutch out quickly? I've heard of people (don't know if it's true or even possible) that shift without using the clutch?

Thanks for the help!

I would not worry about shifting w/out clutch. Concentrate on slipping the clutch out around 3000 or so. I like my air pressure to be around 28psi and I have run 1.70 60 ft times doing this on street tires consistently. Do you still have stock clutch?

Yeah, I still have the stock clutch. I don't have any of the braces for any portion of the car though. 1.7s is fast!

i have an 03 conv. and i run mickey thompson et streets (they have around 18lbs to 20 lbs in them), stock bushings and stock axles. most of the time i slip the clutch around 4000, but last weekend i grew a pair and dumped the clutch at 4500 and broke one of my axles. you should be fine as long as you don't dump past 3500......

I drive mine daily, have upgraded clutch to a Spec Stage 3+, 26 spline input, stock Eaton, 2.8 pulley, 100mm tensioner, Flows w/out cats, Diablosport tune, CAI, and run Goodyear Eagle F1 DS3 275s on the rear, run 1.7 to 1.8 60 ft, 7.65 in the 1/8th at 93 mph. Car also has 40,000 miles. Royal purple front to back. Powershifting at 5800 each gear.

C-Chris - How much boost are you running with? What is the advantage of your aftermarket clutch?

Sorry I haven't posted sooner, crazy weekend. I'm running just over 12 lbs of boost. The clutch upgrade allows you to slip the clutch on launch so you don't put added pressure on your axles if the track is hooking good. I still dump mine just because I'm on street tires. I do get a little chatter from the Spec, but the rewards in driveability are worth it.
