Just bought a very sweet 2003 Cobra! I'll be bringing it home within the next couple of days.

Like a kid waiting for Santa, I can barely sleep...

Being new to this vehicle, what recommendations can you share with me?

I currently own two other interesting cars; 1970 Olds 442 W-30 (4spd) and a Superformance MKIII (1965 Shelby Cobra replica).

I'm very keen to add this Mustang Cobra and will enjoy it very much.

So, what are the things to look for on this 2003 Cobra?

Congratulations on your purchase  And welcome to the forums!! There's alot of great people here, that have alot of knowledge on these cars. Only thing I know of to look for is a the head tick problem on the '03's. You can have a dealer check to see if it was done. How many miles on your new toy, and has anything been done to it?

Noticed you were from Oregon, where are you located? I'm in Eugene, and there's another member on here that is also from Eugene.

The first thing I would do is replace all the fluids! Check for the head tick fix. Drive it!

Welcome to the board!!

Congrates on the Cobra and sounds like it is not going to be alone in the garage. The head tick is possible in both years, and a corrected head was not achieved until 2005, The tick is caused by warping the valve in the rear of the head from a poor coolant flow design and which it will be ok if you don'r rag on the car all the time. They make a few cooling mods to help with this, one is the eavan cooling mod the other is the LDC. I know you will enjoy your Cobra and enjoy yourself here.

my 98 mark VIII has a head tick, and so does my brothers 80k miles 97 cobra. Are you sure its a 03 specific thing? Oh and is it something we can have fixed for free at a dealership?

I'm not to sure about the mark VIII's or the '97 Cobra's. But on the '03's it was a pretty common thing. That's why Ford put out either a recall or TSB on it. I also don't think they'll fix those issues for free now that they're 10 years old. It might not have been common enough for those model cars, and that's why Ford didn't address them.
