Can '05 aftermarket wheels be placed on a '96? I'm looking at a set of 17x9 Steeda wheels but they are currently on a 2005. I've heard that a spacer can be used to make the wheels fit, but was hoping someone might be knowledgeable on this. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Stock 1996 wheels have 5.72" backspacing. Stock 2005 wheels have 6.295" backspacing. Steeda does not list backspacing for their wheels.

It would probably require at least a .5" spacer to keep a 2005 wheel from hitting the brake caliper on a 1996. A .5" flat spacer would shroud most of the hub which would be undesirable on these hubcentric wheels. You would also loose .5" of thread contact on the wheel studs! There are spacers available that contain their own studs and hubs, and bolt to your existing studs making the conversion possible. The best solution would be to use wheels that are designed for the 1994-2004 Mustang.
