Brought the '03 to a shop where a buddy of mine just started working (THE only mechanic I actually trust) and they performed a compression test showing Cylinder #6 having next to no compression...They are recommending starting with removing the heads and having them checked...a rebuild quoted at $3100-$3800. Shop to do the work will be Scroggin's Machine Shop...

If those are not the problem, then we're looking at an engine build...they quoted being as high as $7700.

Is it possible for a cylinder to just fail without warning?

Any comments or suggestions from you guys would be greatly appreciated!

the posible problems are many.you'll have to just dig in and hope that you have a spring or valve problem so it can be fixed quick and cheap

I know...my wife is gonna kill me when (if) she finds out!

Hopefully of the many possibilities, it's something easily and cheaply repaired...

Sorry to hear Gary, that is some bad luck.

You can alway take the bottom end from the 97 and the heads off the 03 and slap them together, doing any headwork needed, and have a Frankenstein engine. Then find a cheap takeout for the 97, take the blower off, and sell it N/A, then sell the blower by itself.

Anyone know what this is?

It was just sitting next to the cam...

It's been replaced and everything is holding pressure (leak-down test successful!). Monday everything gets put back together and we go for a test drive...

That is a roller cam follower... and they have been known to come off the cam lobes on other cars before. My best friend had the same thing happen to him on his built motor in his 01 Cobra.

Good to hear everything is holding together and leak down passed... sounds like your luck is turning around

Correct!! And so this will cost a heck of a lot less than the head/engine rebuild...as long as that's the only problem!!

Yes...I replaced the clutch with stock parts (had them in the garage)...after 4 months of sitting around, it's ALIVE again!! I had forgotten how fun that car is to drive!!
