Great pictures Keith!!!

Did you edit them to look like panoramic pics or is that how they were taken?? Looks like you got the setting down to get the wheels in motion.

I cropped them down. Being that I'm taking 12.9 MP pics now, I can crop and still get a decent quality pic. Barry helped me with the settings, but I still ended up with a lot of trashed pics.

A bit more practice and a new lens. :D Now I'm shopping for a 70-200mm L 2.8 IS. Of course, all those Blue GT500's makes me want to shop for one of those also....in my dreams.

One of my mom/step-dad's friends just got a blue w/blk stripes, gonna try to get him to come out to a meet.

I really want to see one of the orange ones....would love to have that color or yellow w/no stripes....

Much better lens for what your shooting and cheaper as well.

Cool Pics.
Can you send me high res versions of a couple shots if I PM you an email address?
Particularly the one that just has "SPEED" above my car, and of course the one of me passing Carl

I've got the 'good' Nikon 70-200. It is a great lens, but it is WAY too short for these types of pictures. You just can't get close enough to the cars - even with the DX sensor 'multiplication' factor. I end up cropping down heavily.

Also Keith is shooting with a full framed camera so there is no 'multiplication factor'. 100-400L would be a great fit for this type of shooting.

I've got my IS 75-300mm and that's a nice lense. Sometimes too small, but I'm not about to spend the amount of money my step-dad spends on his camera equipment for a "hobby".... ;)

I HAD A FREAKING BLAST!!! (Henry, I think that makes it about 30 times I've said it now!)

It was great hanging out and talking with you all that came.

Then there was the running.
WOW! That track is FAST!!! I MEAN SCARY FAST!!!

Also there was one guy who really made me work for it and who really made it fun for me.

Henry!!! Nice driving man! We were hammering it in very close proxcimity and I didn't have to worry about what you were going to do.
You really made it fun for me out there!!!

These new digital SLRs have so much stuff on them it's almost like having a laptop with a lenses on it. Also Nikon has a new 70-300 VR lenses that has gotten good reviews.

I think I'm still going to go with the 70-200 2.8. I have found them for about the same price. I have seen many complaints about the 100-400mm when compared to the sharpness of the 70-200mm. They say that above 300mm the pictures sharpness fades alot. Many reviews I have seen say that I would be better with the 70-200 and a 1.4x extender. Plus, 95% of these pictures I posted are cropped down alot and I think I would be better with a sharp cropped pic, than a fuzzy optically zoomed pic. For the two track events a year I use this for, the extender should be fine. 70 is a little to much for alot of the outdoor stuff I do and 100 would be even more so. Not to mention the 2.8 would be better for dusk/night shots compared to the 4.5. Even with the 1.4x, the 70-200 2.8 would be 3.8 at 280mm. The 70-200 2.8 is the top rated zoom from Canon and it is hard to find someone that has owned both and disagrees.

140 people rated the 70-200 2.8 - 9.8
174 people rated the 100-400 - 9.1

Reading the reviews I see why.

Most of the people giving these reviews are being extremely picky and I guarentee its not as bad as they make it out to be. Remember that nice big picture on your wall was taking with the 100-400L at 400mm.. :D

I had a fantastic time and only slipped the rear end out one time in the rain.
Having my damp foot slip off the gas and get stuck under the pedal going into turn 12 was not so fun.

Yes, Jimmy the close following was excellent car control practice. I almost ran up your :moon: when that fox body broke down.

I wish Nikon had a 100-400L equivalent. The 80-400 is just missing the 'IS' focusing (it is screw drive) so it can be too slow to focus for fast action; and the 200-400 f4 lens is a 5000 lens.

He is shooting one of those 'C' cameras. I've got a lightly used D70 that I would be willing to part with, and a D200 that I might let go for not much more than you would pay for a D80. I love the D200, but a little voice in my ear keeps telling me to get the D300.

Also have the Nikkor 18-70 lens that is just a redundant lens for me now (got the 18-200 for my 'walking around' lens), so I would be willing to part with it too.

Well, I ordered the 70-200mm 2.8 IS and the 1.4x Extender today. I will use the extender at the track and the lens without it for other events, like car shows and typical outdoor shots.
