I want to be careful here because I don't want to vendor bash unnecessarily. I do think the story is worth a discussion however.
I purchased a Cobra R fiberglass hood from Stage 3. The hood was shipped to Garys body shop along with another hood for a different customer. The hoods were shipped from the same mfg. My body man worked on this hood for a couple of weeks. He had to paint it several times, applied all kinds of sealants, puttys, etc to this hood. I have around $1,000 in the hood right now between the hood, materials, and labor. It looks like crap!!!! The hood is all grainy and has air bubbles lifting up the paint in several places. My painter claims it was an EXTREMELY poor quality hood and that they had laid down an very thin layer of gel coat, didn't roll it out properly, didn't get the air out, etc.
I know nothing about the construction of fiberglass hoods. I do know that my friend has been doing body work (including 100's of fiberglass parts) for over 30 years. I tend to believe that he is right. The body shop where the hood was delivered had similar problems with the hood that they worked on.
I was wondering if anyone on the forum had read of similar problems from other forum members. This probably is not an isolated incident.
I called the mfg. already and he gave me the song and dance routine, that they had show cars all over the place with their product and that the body man just did not prepare the hood properly.
Any input on this would be very helpful.
