View Full Version : Entering Car in Show

Need some advice. I have a 1996 Black SVT Cobra all original, low mileage (6,052), garage kept, mint condition inside and out. Their is a mustang show in Ocean City, Maryland this weekend, and I would like to enter the car in the show. My questions are as follows.

:o Am I wasting my time entering an original? The majority of the cars I see, even on this site are all modified.

If not, what will the judges be looking for when they judge the cars?

What can I do to prepare the car for the show and judges?

Are their any tricks, I can use to make the car look its best? Interior, exterior or engine compartment.

As you can see I'm new to all this (Mustang Shows), and have only driven the car for the joy of it all, on beautiful sunny days. I would like to get more involved with the clubs and showing the car.

Any feed back would be greatly appreciated.

I'm retired now and have the time to spend with the car. I would like to meet and learn from other Cobra car enthusiast.

It all depends on what your objective is with the car. Do you want to keep it a show queen or do you want to take it out on the track. Just because a Cobra is stock doesn't mean it isn't appreciated. My 1994 Indy Pace Car is totally original with the exception of tires and a couple of "bolt ons" that could easily be removed and replaced back to stock like my snake in the grille.

Your first show is a learning experience, enter the car in the show. Clean and detail it the best you can, get judged, and ask others and the judges what you need to correct to make your Cobra a better show piece. Good luck at the event.

Meet others, make friends, and have fun. That's what the hobby is all about! :thumbsup:

I have made a lot of friend going to shows. Some easy things to check.

1 gas cap area
2 under the hood look at your pullies for rust.
3 Wipe all hoses down with armour all wipes.

:thumbsup: Thanks for the info. I wouldn't have thought about the gas flap. Another question? Will the armour-all, tend to dry and crack the hoses over time? This sounds like a good way to make things look like new under the hood. What type of exterior wax do you recommend? I've use a few different products, but would like another opinion.

A clean car is the best thing. In some (Buick BCA) clubs they have 2 divisions for showing Original and Modified. In the original even a non original bolt will take off points. So stock is good. In fact it wasn't until a couple years ago that they offered the Modifieds the opportunity to show at all. Wax the exterior, sweep and wipe down the interior, clean the engine bay, and like suggested before details like the gas filler should be cleaned and gone over leave nothing to be suspect. Most important. Don't fret about anything just enjoy the show, and look at the other cars for future ideas for yourself at a later event.:thumbsup:
