Some of you guys know that Im running in the 24 hours of Lemons in on Oct 18th-19th. I thought I would show a little progress we made with the car today.

We had previously installed the cage and stripped the car, got the car running, ect. Today was decorate the car day.. :)

At the beginning of the day this is what the car looked like. Actually it didnt look quite this good as we took the photos after washing the 10 year old mud off the car.. :)

After a lot of work painting, new tires an bunch of decals, and the gayest aluminum wing we could find this is what the car looked like..

Total cost of paint job was $69 (3 qts of paint) plus 2 cans of matte black for the wheels.

The race should be quite fun and it looks like we came in under budget for the car. For those who dont know the budget is $500 including the cost of the car. Safety equipment and decoration not included in the $500...

The car is almost ready to go, just need to install the race seat/6pt harness, fire extinguisher, and a few other small safety items.

Very nice. I begged onto a team so I'll see you out there. We don't have any paint or decals, just 100% Bavarian POS from what I hear (I did no work on the car, jumped onto the team after another driver had to get out).

Should be fun. Good luck and nice work on that rear wing!!

That's awesome!! A Bunch of guys I know from Dallas (who have often attended our track days) are bringing a Taurus SHO...can't wait to see the race!We will be slow... The car is a 1982 280zx with 129,000 miles on the motor, the suspension is worn out and the car only had 135hp from the factory, and Im sure its less now. We are running 440 treadwear tires, so Im guessing we wont have much stick around the corners either. Honestly we are just hoping to make it through the first day of the race and get all our team members a chance to drive the car before it breaks down or gets demolished.

Just a small post lemons report:

After spending 2 hours in the penalty box for bone headed driver moves, a failed alternator, and having half a pound of metal shavings dumped in our engine we still managed to take the checkered flag and finish 28th. Had we managed to stay out of the penalty box we could have finished in the top 10 or 15 for sure. 2 hours of lost track time looses you quite a few laps. To be honest though our only goal was to finish the race so we were extremely happy.

The event has changed quite a bit from previous lemons races, no contact is allowed any longer and will result in a 30 minute penalty, hitting anything including a cone is also a 30 minute penalty and spinning on track is also a 30 minute penalty. Even with all the rule changes it was still some of the most fun I have had on 4 wheels. If the race comes back to Houston I will certainly be there again.

Looks like Admiral's team did extremely well and I think they won an award for being one of the most unlikely cars to finish really high in the standings. I'm sure he will chime in and give more details.

I won't go into all the details but suffice it to say this event was a blast, period. Many teams from all over the nation with many great people made for a fantastic motorsports experience, nothing could have prepared me for such an event lol.

Quick rundown, we were awarded the award for having the worst looking car that went the fastest lol. Effluency or something like that, came with a cash price of $1000 all in rolled nickels!! We finished 30th or something around there, had an alternator pulley fly off while I was driving on Sunday after we had worked our way up to 17th and it went through the radiator, we never could get the car to keep water in the borrowed radiator so it was 20 mins on track then sit for 45 minutes and cool down. Still had a great time, here's a few photos.

Here's our car pre-race:

Somewhere in the race I bumped elbows with Barry while we were both spotting for our respective co-drivers, as he commented they had a few run-ins with the judges, here's a pic of his car before it got too desecrated:

Here's the Toyota (aka Wayne's World car) that won the event, some NASA AI/CMC drivers at the wheel and the NASA TX race director, they never had a penalty to my knowledge and never put a wheel wrong, car ran all day long with no prob and could go 4 hrs between fuel stops lol. They received $1500 cash in rolled nickels:

I highly recommend this event for those of you who love to laugh and share war stories at the race track, it was a real blast IMHO. YMMV as always.

Our first driver Sunday morning got over aggressive in the car, hit the Mustank car and we got a penalty. (he's the one in the John McCain mask). The made the rest of team get on or in the car, someone handed one guy an elvis wig and glasses, someone handed me a "King Tut" Egyptian style headdress. I had already been admonished for arguing with the "judges" so I was keeping my mouth shut and I put it on gladly.

After the impound session I found out the King Tut getup was given to me by one of my co-drivers' wife and had nothing to do with the penalty. I was like "WTF???" but it was all in good fun.

fordbastards represented in the Texas 24 Hours of LeMons race at MSR Houston. We battled the 1st day with an overheating engine that finally blew at the end of day one. We then worked on El Toro Loco all night long and dropped in another 3.0 engine in by 4am we had her ready for day two. Our team won MOST HEROIC FIX: #92, El Toro Loco (Ford Taurus SHO, Grand Prairie TX).
