Started the shake down process on the Cobra to get ready for some future track time :) and it will not start up. :edmond:

Looking to read the codes if any show to check on why the Cobra will not start. What is a good scanner to get for reading codes?

The engine turns over but just will not start, checked the fuses and all are good. I am getting the smell of fuel from the exhaust.

Can not check for spark and turn the ignition at the same time. :smack:

I know the car has set up for a while and maybe it's the fuel. If I need to flush the fuel system, what is a good process to do it myself? :dunno:

Help….

check to see that you didn't bump the collision fuel shut off switch in the trunk.

Push it down a steep hill and pop the clutch...suggested steep hills would be Sam Houston over I-10, I-610 over the ship channel...

A good scanner is a simple one from Autozone...I am not sure they cost very much, but they also list the codes' definition, not just the code number itself, like most programmer/scanners.

Surely someone near you has one to loan and can bring it to dinner tonight if Edmond posts that we're getting together...IF...

I think Tuesday dinners have died! :(

Stan, drive Booger over and you can use my X-cal II! :rotf:

You can borrrow it (X-cal II) to pull codes, but you will have to look them up (Google them). That is if there any codes registered. Does the CEL stay on? Can you hear the fuel pump run?

Here's a list for the codes:

Laff it up fuss balls and at my expense. :rotf:

(Crank position sensor) How would I check that?

(Collision fuel shut off switch in the trunk) Thanks, That was one of the first things checked off a short list of things I hoped would fix it.

(Push it down a steep hill and pop the clutch) If I could find a steep hill close to the house I would.

Larry, If I could drive the Booger I would be seeing you at the track for some lead and follow chase games.
CEL?
(Fuel pump) Now that you say that,,, I don’t think I heard it turn on. And when I turn on the key, I hear a click then a click, like some thing is turning on then off. I wonder what that is?
(X-cal II) Thanks buddy. I will take you up on that.

(Casper) True. Just hope I do not have to rebuild the motor.

You'd have to put it on a computer to see if it was the position sensor but by the sound of it, sounds like a fuel pump. :thewave:

Also check the fuel filter...after some time just sitting around, it could have gunked up...

CEL - Check Engine Light

Stan, I've got a generic Ford scanner that I used on the Focus that gave me great results that gives you the description of any faulty codes. I will bring it to work tomorrow and I can come by afterwards and we can see what it is if you don't find out before then.

OK Is this car still not diagnosed?
If so call me I can read codes, I can find out what the code is, I can find out what the code is NOT, and I can help with parts.

I'm out of work, but I'm not dead. lol! I do have to shuttle Gail around to her appointments, But I'm sure I can work in a visit to help out my buddy STAN!

what year is the cobra? I have an IDS (factory ford tool) I can scan codes for ya if you need it... give a better description of the concern.. From what I gather is it's a crank no start? Crank the engine and see if the check engine light stays lit while cranking or if it goes out and get back to me, I can tell ya if your ckp is ok. And keep rockin that porn stache :)

Thanks everyone for all your input. I had a ruff week at work and had to work most of the weekend. I did not get to try some of the tricks on the Cobra to see the direction I would need to go in fixing this problem. May be if this week is better, I can try some more things and set up some time with y'all to look at getting the codes scanned and read.

I've got the code reader in the car if you want to meet up and borrow it. Again, it's a generic one, worked well on the Focus. let me know, you have my number.

Have not had any time to really work on the car, but it does sound like it's the fuel pump. :(
