This is the first "official" SCMC/TCUSA event for 2013. The event will be an HPDE with no car show or dyno, just plain ole wide open, full throttle, full course VIR for two days. Here is the information you will need for this event.

Where: Virginia International Raceway, Danville VA

When: January 26-27, 2013

Cost: $350.00 for two days or $225.00 for one day. If you preregister prior to January 12, 2013 you will receive a $40.00 discount for a two day purchase only!!

Discount: You must be a member of either SCMC, TCUSA, or Modular Boss Premium Member in order to participate in our on track events. To join one of these clubs, go to www.svtcobraclub.com if you own an SVT Mustang or the new Boss 302 --- or go to www.trackclubusa.com to join if you do not own an SVT Mustang or Boss 302. (Modular Boss premium members qualify, too, go to www.modularboss.com to join Modular Boss and select the premium option)

Registration Opens: December 10, 2012

Cancellation Policy: We have a special cancellation policy for this event and this event only. You may cancel up to 72 hours prior to the event and get a full refund.

On-line payment available: No, only checks will be accepted. Your check will be mailed back to you or will be shredded if you decide to cancel going to the event.

Special Weather Insurance: If it is raining or snowing or if the temperature is below 48 degrees, this event may be cancelled and a full refund will be returned to the registrants. We will also shred the check if you agree to it. Precipitation will cancel the event but temperature gives either the track or the club the right to cancel and issue participants a full refund! The temperature clause is a guideline where we used the average temperature in Alton, VA for the month of January as the decision point. The average temperature was researched from weather.com. This does not mean we will cancel due to cold weather but it gives us the right to cancel if either party deems it necessary.

Host Hotel: The Lodge at VIR or the Villas at VIR. We are asking ALL participants to lodge at the track.

Cost: $89.00 a night for the Lodge - Villa Price - Call

Event Update:

The bottom line on this event is that you have nothing to lose and everything to gain since you will get a full refund if you cancel up to 72 hours before the event. We have a weather clause so if it is bad weather, we will cancel the event, and you will get your check back. No checks will be endorsed prior to January 23, 2013. That means we will hold your check till we know that the weather is going to be good and only then will we deposit your fee. There will be no on line payment for this event since we do not want to pay processing fees and will be able to give you a full refund should the weather be bad.

You cannot use a credit for this event.

Insurance for this event will be available from Lockton Affinity

Please download your event forms in the first post. This is all you will need to bring with you. We'll go over the rules of the event at the driver's meeting. An event schedule is also posted in the first thread and you'll get a hard copy of it at the event.

Thanks for the re-direct to the original post. I must have missed the Driver's School Inspection forms when I downloaded the event registration...

I do have a few more questions concerning the inspection and helmet requirements:

1. The inspection form implies that I need to have my car inspected at a shop by a professional mechanic prior to arrival at VIR. Is this correct or will that section of the form be completed on site at VIR during the tech inspection?

2. If the event requires a professional pre-inspection, is there a list of approved / mandatory shops that we must use?

3. I typically do my own work and am swapping in fresh pads and DOT 4 brake fluid this weekend. Is this sufficient, or do I have to have a shop do the brake fluid swap / bleed?

4. Are there clothing restrictions? I.e. long pants and shirt, cotton, wool, or other non-melting fabrics?

5. What is the exact helmet requirement? Snell SA05?

I apologize if the answers to these questions are posted somewhere. This is my first event with TCUSA / SCMC and could not find the answers via the search function.

If the standards posted under the SVT Superfest section of the forum are the same for this event, I think I found my answers.

It doesn't hurt to have someone look over your car as a double check. We usually leave self inspections for instructors. There is not a list of approved shops except pro-Dyno in Charlotte, NC.

You should definitely swap the fluid and pads if they are less than a half pad. You'll be running high speeds and stopping will be a big concern for slowing that pony down.

Long pants and shirts are required but we usually lift the long sleeve shirt requirement if the weather is warmer. But about everything yo u mentioned in step 4 would apply.

Helmets must be SA05 or newer.

That depends on your run group.

Green 2.5 hours on Saturday and 1.5 on Sunday

I have never had anyone complain about not getting enough track time at our events, you'd be the first if you did.

Remember if you ever get in a train or crowd of cars, you can pull in and ask to be let out in a less crowded spot.

I like both, in a train you learn things and alone on the track you learn things.

Yes, you can but if you will be needing an instructor, you need to mail everything in to me prior to the event so I can plan everything for the weekend. I will not accept novices the day of the event when all instructors have been assigned. These events take planning and we cannot produce instructors on the spur of the moment.

Thanks,

I need to know who will be at the Friday night dinner? I also need to know who will be at the Saturday night dinner? This is a pay on your own meal and the menu is in the first post along with the cost. Do you want a cash bar or some sort of alcohol served on either day. If so, I have to give the track a head count so they can determine how much to have available?

The Saturday night dinner will have a special treat with Lee Holman entertaining us with one of his historic speeches and details on the new Holman/Moody Mustang. Ford will be sending a certified Ford driver down to this event so we should have some Ford representation. We may also have another surprise but I cannot say till we know it is a done deal, but if it materializes, everyone will be happy.

Remember, please post your head count for either day.

For example:

Friday - 1 Saturday - 2 or
Friday - 0 Saturday - 2

Tony

Looking at the weather, right now, this event is a go. We are not going to cancel because it doesn't show 48 degrees. That temperature condition is more of a guideline for both the club and the track. Currently, it looks like no rain and 46/45 degrees each day. Today it was supposed to be 48 degrees here in Charlotte, it reached the low 50's.

It is going to be a great weekend! Lots of track time, fellowship each night at dinner, and Lee Holman will share some of his knowledge with us! Really, really, looking forward to getting back on track with everyone!

Looking at forecast today it looks like highs of only 42 deg Sat and Sun.

Not to sound down about the event, it's just that I never ran w/ temps that low. W/ highs of just 42 deg, that means it will be in the upper 30's most of the day. I understand perhaps running at a little lower speeds. Can someone w/ experience running in the cold chime in on other things to consider here.

I'm thinking it would be a much different experience w/ a cold suspension, cold tires and peak horsepower w/ the cooler intake temps.

LOL...I rather have to deal with the cold than the rain. I'll be gentle on you on the offs, just don't exchange paint with anyone. The forecast for Sunday's temps went up. if the rain can get here on Thursday instead of Friday, we might be in the 40's and that's very tolerable. I know it won't be short sleeve weather but...I guess I can handle a sweat shirt for a couple of days!

We will be doing "orientation laps" from 8:30 am till 8:45 am or so or till we are finished with three laps. We have a lot of newcomers attending this event and some of them have never even seen the entire track especially with their car. This is a great way to get novices acquainted with the track layout as well as get yourself warmed up, the track warmed up, and your tires warmed up. Please be patient, there will be plenty of track time for everyone.

The concession stand should be open as our turnout is a record turnout for this event so you'll be able to eat lunch at the track. I'll see if they will open the room upstairs for us to congregate in for lunch since it looks like a cold weekend. (The 48 degree limitation is something the club/track put there just in case either of us needed to cancel, it didn't mean we would cancel.)

Parade Laps - If you wish, you can take your car out on parade laps during lunch as this is included in your registration fee. There will not be any cornerworkers out on the track during this time. Please, don't drive stupid while out on the track for parade laps. There will be drivers with kids in their cars as well as their spouses. Parade laps are a great way to get the family involved in a free spirited drive. Dress warmly!

Friday/Saturday night dinner - We will be having two meals over the weekend. What we are trying to do is make it where you do not even have to leave the complex all weekend unless you just want to leave. Go to this link and you can checkout the menu and the prices. Last year, this worked out great and the food was very good with plenty for everyone to get their fill. http://www.svtcobraclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=19048
**I have to know if you will be attending dinner and which night (Friday or Saturday or both?) and how many will be in your party? Please either post on the forums with your name or send me an e-mail with your full name and how many are coming with you? Please do not send me just your E-mail address, I have over 100 people to keep up with and I'm sorry an E-mail address is not your name** Remember, be sure to give me numbers for each day, thanks. As a side note, Lee Holman will be there with the new 2014 Holman/Moody Mustang doing testing and tuning all weekend long. Ford Motor Company will be sending down a certified Ford driver for the weekend for testing their car. We may also have a surprise guest if it works out this week and believe me, you'll love to see this happen.

Sunday January 27, 2013 - Sunday is the same layout as Saturday except we will be going on track 30 minutes later and concluding the event at 2:00 pm which is when most people start packing up anyway. The weekend weather is looking a little cooler than desired as last year we were in the high 50's and the year before that mid 60's. We can't have perfect weather every year but as long as it is sunny, it will be a fun time for all. Please watch for news on that link I sent above for cancellation of the event but I do not look for that to happen with the sunshine predicted all weekend. Leave your suntan lotion at home and bring a sweatshirt with you, you will need it. This would also be a great time to make sure your car has heat in it, I know mine does. :)

Let's have some safe fun next weekend and I can promise you that we will have warmer weather in May at our SVT Superfest event. If you have any questions about the upcoming event, please E-mail me back.

Thanks,

Tony

It will be extremely important to warm your tires if the Ambient temperatures are in the low to mid 40's.

The early morning sessions particularly; the first 10 to 15 minutes on track take it easy; feel out the limitations of the grip you have available slowly

This holds true for Race Slicks , DOT Race Tires and High Performance Summer Street Tires.

I will be calling the track today to see if we can get a modified schedule for the weekend. I'd like to start 2 hours later on Saturday and 2 hours later on Sunday where we would run 6 hours each day rather than running 8 on Saturday and 4 on Sunday. If we start at 10:00 am it will allow us to have better track conditions for our cars. I will post here tonight to see how we will proceed for the weekend. If you think this is a better idea, or a bad idea, let me know?

I just spoke with Cobrabitn who has spoken to the track and the schedule is now 10am to 5pm on both days. As it was pointed out in another post, the weather on Friday will be a little treacherous so exercise caution on the way down. Right now it is wintry mix Friday, but clear on the weekend.

Just keep in mind how temp effects your traction. Drive this event as if it were a rain event, smoothness will pay big dividends and help to make you a better overall driver regardless of conditions.

I look forward to meeting new friends this weekend!

It would be great if a couple of the guys from the northeast would bring some snowmobiles down for friday/sat am. I doubt there has ever been a snowcross at VIR! Tony, Im sure you have plenty going on but if you get a chance to comment on the dinner Friday. Are you still planning it with the later start time sat am? Hope everyone travels safely and lets look forward to a fun and safe event

I just want to give you an update for this weekend's event. While I know some people may not want to run at all, I am proposing a modified schedule and would lile your input on it.

Right now, we are scheduled to do 2 six hour days with a start time of 10:00 am and a finish time of 5:00 pm each day. That means we will modify the run schedule so that everyone gets the same amount of track time.

The second option is that we run 4 hours on Saturday and 8 hours on Sunday since Sunday would be the warmer of the two days. The times would be from 1:00 pm on Saturday till 5:00 pm. Sunday, we would run from 8:30am to 5:30 pm with an hour lunch at 11:00 am.

So here's what the schedule would look like and it would help with organizing since we would be starting later.

Saturday Schedule - Option 1 (Two 6 hour days)

Tech - 7:00 am to 9:00 am
Driver meeting - 9:00 am to 9:45 am
Orientation laps 9:45am to 10:00 am
10:00 am to 12:00 pm Track goes hot
12:00 pm to 1:00 pm - Parade laps and lunch
1:00 pm to 5:00 pm Track goes hot
6:00 pm till finish - Saturday night dinner

Sunday schedule - Option 1 (Two 6 hour days)

Driver meeting - 9:30 am to 10:00 am
10:00 am to 11:00 pm Track goes hot
11:00 pm to 12:00 pm - Parade laps and lunch
12:00 pm to 5:00 pm Track goes hot

We will be running in the heat of the day on this option

Saturday Schedule - Option 2 (One 4 hour day and one 8 hour day)

Tech - 8:00 am to 11:00 am
Driver meeting - 11:00 am to 12:00 am
Orientation laps and parade laps 12:00pm to 1:00 pm
1:00 - 5:00 pm Track goes hot
6:00 pm till finish - Saturday night dinner

Sunday schedule - Option 2 (One 4 hour day and one 8 hour day)

Driver meeting - 8:00 am to 8:30 am
8:30 am to 11:00 pm Track goes hot
11:00 pm to 12:00 pm - Parade laps and lunch
12:00 pm to 5:30 pm Track goes hot

I personally would opt for Option 2 which allows us to run in the heat of the day, 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm on Saturday. The weather calls for 0% chance of rain both days and it will allow the track time to clear off and heat up a little on Saturday afternoon. Sunday is the warmer of the two so we should be well on our way by lunch time.

What this option would do is cut out the Friday night dinner since some people who planned to be at the track on Saturday morning now have more time to get there. Some of you may be able to cut your hotel expenses possibly??

Please let me know if you still plan to be there and which option you prefer. The option with the most participants committed will be the option we will go with.

Thanks,

Tony Sorrentino

I could go with either one. I think we need to change our reservation for the Lodge 72 hours in advance, so that window has closed for changing your accommodations.

Personally I like the 10-5 both days, because like most people we leave early on Sunday to make the trek back home, so we get more Saturday time.

Although I do know that both mornings may be somewhat of a wash w/ the temps.

Surprised you guys will be running at all. With highs predicted at 39 for Saturday and 45 for Sunday with lows of 18 & 19 respectively everyone will have to be really careful with tire warming!! They are calling for sleet & freezing rain in addition to some snow near Milton on Friday. Hopefully you guys will actually be able to run.

The first time I went it got down to 18, but got up to 50+ degrees in the daytime. Very cold, but a great time! Hopefully it will warm up and the track won't get covered with nasty stuff the night before.

A 10 hour drive and the predictions of bad weather made me start to consider canceling.

The original Schedule worked for me perfect as I could be back in NYC and be at be at work for Monday morning.

The new schedule(s) does not fit the bill at all.

You are coming the furthest unless Chicago is further? You do what you feel comfortable with, you can always do the May event. If you want to wait till Wednesday night to make a final decision, that will be okay with me.

I am new to this scene so I am a little in the dark of what is involved in making this work. My question is what happens to the people that only paid for Saturday? That is what I have done since it is my first time out. I plan on driving up from Chesapeake Va which is about 3 1/2 hours in good weather. I have a reservation at the hotel for Friday and Saturday nights so that makes me committed to be there unless the event is canceled thus the hotel will let me out of reservation. I would personally prefer later start on Saturday and then Sunday would be whatever the people in for Sunday want.

Hey Tony, we will be needing to cancel also. Weather looks bad for us to travel out Friday and not worth heading up Sat that far for one day. Already canceled lodge room.

If we got a late start on Saturday, it might give the track time to get any snow/moisture off the track if it exists. There may be a couple of inches on Friday/Friday night which would make the drive down dangerous. Also the afternoon start will mean I could drive down (from Richmond) Saturday morning which is a safer option. Either way I have not booked a room yet so the sooner I know the firm schedule the better. Thanks Tony for working so hard to make this event work for the most people.

I think the option that has us start later in the morning makes the most sense. Both Friday and Saturday nights will be in the 20s. To go out Sunday am when the track temp is still freezing is not the best idea in my opinion. Letting the track and tires warm up for a few hours in the morning would provide the safest environment especially for the number of novice drivers we have registered.

darreng505

Tony, can we register/pay and tech-in Sunday before things kick off if we only come for one day?

One thing I worry about is with the 1.5" snowfall predicted for Friday and then freezing temps overnight, it might take a while Saturday for it to thaw, run off and dry...if it even does.

I vote for option 2, but is rescheduling for another weekend out of the question, because of track conflicts. I know VIR stays pretty well booked.
I know everybody has prepped their cars, and wants to get them on track, but it would be a bummer to tear up a couple of cars, because of less than ideal track conditions. :(

Whatever is decided, I will support, so if the decision is to run this weekend, I will be there. :)

That would be awesome, next week is supposed to be in the 60's toward the end of week, but I'm sure the logistics is ridiculous.

Sorry, VIR is booked till next year and this is our only weekend. Tuesday and Wednesday have great weather but hey, we had good weather the past two years. Too bad we couldn't get everyone to go in the middle of the week?

Almost everyone voted for option 2 which is we do an afternoon run on Saturday and a full run on Sunday. Looking at the weather, the low for Sunday is supposed to be 31 which means we shouldn't have any ice on the track in the am. If we start in the afternoon on Saturday then it should be close to 40 degrees. I have been watching the weather the past couple of weeks, and the afternoon temps have been anywhere from 4-6 degrees warmer than what was predicted. That means we could see high 40's on Saturday/Sunday.

I will confirm everything here tomorrow night but I'm pretty much going to be going with the 4 hour Saturday, 8 hour Sunday.

Here are some tips below for dot tires:

FREEZE WARNING
Freeze Crack Advisory: This advisory addresses proper storage and use of Hoosier tires in cold conditions. Hoosier Tires, especially asphalt and hard compound tires, may experience Rubber Cracking if the tires are transported, crushed, flexed or stressed when frozen. The following guidelines are provided to avoid this problem.
1. Always store Hoosier Racing Tires indoors at temperatures above 32 F.
2. If tires have been subject to 32 F or less, allow them to warm to room temperature (about 70 F)
for a minimum of 24 hrs before tire is mounted, transported or flexed.
3. Always use spare tires not intended for future competition to store vehicles for prolonged periods
of time or winter transport.
4. If below freezing temperatures are expected, please consider shipping tires once more favorable conditions exist.

Do not use tires that have evidence of Freeze Crack Damage.

Anybody up there tonight? What are the roads like? I was debating trying to come up tomorrow but need to be there in time for tech inspection and driver's meeting (ie have to leave here around 8:30 - 9:00). Even though I know the afternoon is going to be relatively nice I just don't see all the secondary roads that I have to traverse between here and there getting much better between the time the sun comes up and somewhere between 9:00 - 10:30 as I am driving them. At least not when the temps are still going to be in the upper 20's to low 30's.

Any shimmer of hope or should I just plan to stay home? If I didn't have to make tech and the meeting I would probably do it b/c then I could leave at maybe 10:00 - 11:00 but I don't see that happening.

Thanks for any input,
Ryan

Most of the roads are decent, but the ones into VIR are ice covered. One poor guy got stuck on the first road into the track and had his truck and trailer sideways in the road. I went to the other entrance road and made it no problem in my Boss on summer tires. Just be careful and go SLOW!

FYI, it took me 8 hours instead of 4 from Charles Town WV

Yeah, I just went outside to see how things were just around here... roads are basically a sheet of ice. With the temps as cold as they are supposed to be I just don't see that changing between now and when I'd have to leave in the morning. Especially since as you stated, I should probably count on it taking me nearly twice as long as usual which then puts me leaving in the dark so... I'm beginning to think it just isn't worth the risk for a single session. I really want to put my Jeep on track before I put new tires on it and this event was nearly perfect but the weather has pretty much screwed that up.

One thing I hadn't considered until just now is possibly coming up on Sunday. But one, I'm not sure they are running Hyper-Drives on Sunday and two, obviously if I don't come up tomorrow morning I will miss tech. inspection and driver's meeting. Sucks but doesn't suck as bad as putting my Jeep in a ditch, lol.

Yall have fun but unless things have drastically changed by the time I get up in the morning I think I'm going to have to pass on this one.

I'm also considering driving down from Baltimore Saturday morning, but the key questions are how the roads will be (can take interstates almost all the way down), and whether the track itself will be cleared of ice and snow by 1 PM Saturday. Would appreciate info on either of these questions.

Came in last night from Tappahannock, va. Snow, slush and then ice around south Boston. Ran between 35-55 mph towing a trailer. Here safe and sound by 8 pm. Usually 3 hours took almost 6. Travel safe, but most importantly, travel!

Based on the travel conditions reported so far, I decided not to drive down this morning, since my normally 5-hours drive turning into 8 or 10 hours would be too much.

But I'm now considering driving down later this afternoon, hoping everything will melt by then, so that I can attend tomorrow. I'd appreciate info on how the travel conditions and track are looking today, as well as confirmation that it's OK to tech and register tomorrow morning.

Hope you guys have fun today, and be safe!

We are here, we ran 4 hours today right on schedule, 1pm to 5pm. It was a lot of fun and we got to listen to Lee Holman at dinner. Everyone had a great time out on the track, we had about 3 offs but nothing compared to a regular track weekend.

Ryan, come later in the day or afternoon as the track will be a little warmer by then. There are a lot of dry spots on the track right now. I ran all afternoon with NT01s and was actually running 142 mph on the back stretch. Did I say I love my new Boss 302? :P

Was F&S out there this weekend? I saw a few guys carrying around some nice cameras but didn't see the trailer F&S usually brings along so figured they were probably just SCMC/TCUSA members taking some shots.

Yes, F and S was out there. They will be sending me a link for those of you that want to purchase photos from them. They are a great group to have photo the event so please support them. www.fandsenterprises.com

About the weekend...I got 175 track miles over the weekend, that's the most I have had in a long time. I reached a peak speed of 145 mph on the back stretch of VIR and probably could have gotten 150 if I wanted to...I still cannot believe all of the die hard track heads in this club!! Man, we're going to have a blast in May.

David, post any photos you want but leave the group photos with the cars for me to edit and post, please. Thanks for all of the help over the weekend!!

Great event Tony! I'm very glad I made the drive thru the snow to get there. I set a new personal best top[ speed of 150 on Sunday! That alone made the trip worthwhile!

@ Reg: U mad bro? .....LOL...... The session was almost over, you never would have caught me in the next lap but I give you an "A" for effort. :)

How much rwhp do you have? Do you have a s/c on that car?

@Chris: Yes I did 145 on the back straight but I still had plenty of real estate left and 150 was obtainable.

Tony I was catching you and you know it! One more lap was all I needed! May can't get here soon enough. That is a stock 300 hp 4.6 with a CAI and tune. Better be livin in those mirrors come Superfest. Great event! If you hear anything about my lost magnet number (47) please let me know. Thanks again for a great event. That makes 3 jan events for me as well.:bounce:

Um, it was going to take you more than one more lap to catch me. The session was over as when you hit Oak Tree, they threw the checkered flag out. If you have a tune and a CAI, you have more than 300 hp. Don't make me go and get some long tubes, CAI, and a tune because I'd be pushing 450 at the wheels and you'd never even get close enough to see my taillights but just in case....blink, blink, blink. :rotf:

Glad you liked them Ryan. Just picked up a new Nikon 80-200/2.8 lens that's even better for high speed action shots. Will make sure I get some good shots oof you at the May event when I'm not on track.
