My brother has a Vortec supercharged '97 Cobra that sputtered to a stop recently. It is now at the Ford dealer, and they seem to be telling him the MAF sensor is bad and he needs something other than a stock MAF because of the supercharger. (I'm not real clear on the specifics.)

Anyway, we are thinking that maybe during some recent K&N maintenance (wash and oil) that the filter may have been over oiled.

So what happens if you over oil the air filter? Would this cause something, the MAF or anything else, to fail in the induction path? Would this cause the car to stop running?

Thanks,
Darrell

Yes, if you over oil the filter you will suck (or blow depending on the application) some oil into the MAF and it will collect on the wire element. This will give faulty readings and cause the car to run/idle rough. Take some Q-tips and some alcohol and clean the wire in the MAF. Be very careful, the wire is extremely delicate. Iím not sure if this is your problem, but itís worth a shot.
