I will be purchasing a Kenny Brown street cage in the next couple of months and just wondering if you would weld it in or bolt in it. Or maybe even bolt and weld. I would think that welding it in would be better. I will not be taking the cage out.. I am out for everyones 0.02. Thanks

I bolted mine in and then had it welded. It made the car so much stiffer! :D

You don't happen to have any pics of it when the instalation was being done, Or any pic of what it looks like under neath. Did you have them do it? Did they bolt and weld it or did they just bolt it and you have some one else weld it? If you have any pic send it to my address here. millerk@bright.net

I had it installed here in Asheville. I don't have any pics of the install as it happened while I was traveling. The guys who installed it did both the bolt in and the welding at the same time. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

BTW are you going to have KB's crew do the install?

No, I think I will do it my self and save myself 800.00 labor. I will try to get Scott List to come and help me get it all ready to weld and then I will have a freind from work bring his welder and weld it.

Do you have the cage with the chrome bars? Thats the one I am getting since I do take my car to car shows.

Are you going to the mod motor shoot out this year? I herd it is in Columbus, Ohio this year.

Here is the only picture that I could find that shows anything of the cage. As you can see, I'm not even close to being done. If you look near the drivers side rear window, you see a hole in the sheet metal that supports your rear seat back. You must use a hole saw so the rear support bar goes through. I will tell you that it is not an easy job although I did it by myself. Make sure you have plenty of sharp drill bits especially when you have to go through the rear frame rail. I would bolt and weld.

As far as what it looks like underneith, they give you plates to use under the car. I would bolt everything down tight and then weld inside the car and then the plates under the car. I'm not real sure how much you gain by welding the plates to the thin sheetmetal. Usually when people weld their cages in, they have a lot of support plates put in also. You might want to think about welding support bars from your subframe connectors to your bottom plates. Just a thought.

I wish you guys were a little closer, I would love to help you out.

The only dust I will see is the stuff you throw up when you go spinning off the track. :D

Not sure when it is but the guy I have bought things from b-4 told me about it. next time I talk to him I will pass it on.

As for the roll cage it looks like it is gonna be a job & 1/2. Oh well I like to do those kind of things. I will probably get it when I am in INDY for a aniversery.

How long did it take you to do the installation?

Hmmm, I really don't remember what the total time was. I didn't get to work on it for many hours at one time so I spread it out a quite awhile.

You might be able to get it done in one hard long day with 2 of you working on it and not too many beer breaks. ;)

Although I didn't have to worry about carpeting or the rear seat so it could take you considerably longer.

I would still do it myself though instead of paying $800 installation fee.

Which reminds me, when are you going to finish the install of the carpeting on the project that you started. The car is sitting in my garage when you are ready. :D :D :D

I really can't think of anything different I did from what the instructions said. I had a hard time getting the hole drilled in the right place for the back bars that go to the rear frame rails. I really screwed that up but if you are putting your rear seat back in, it should cover up any mistakes. I wasn't that lucky. :o

Like I mentioned before, drilling through the rear frame rail was a big problem. I can't remember what drill I was suppose to use but it took for ever to do it. I wanted to drill a small pilot hole first so the bigger drill would cut easier but I didn't have one long enough. I ended up going to Lowes and picking up a long small diameter drill bit and that helped a lot. I would suggest doing that for sure. Brian might be able to tell you what the bolt size is for the rear brace.

I talked to the guyabout the shoot out and it is July 26,27 at Columbus National Trail raceway.

www.modularshootout.com is the web site.

It is not updated and it says it will be Jan. 1st.

July is a long time away but I dont know if I will be going sice I goto the Fun Ford Show in Norwalk, Ohio 2 weeks before that. I would bet the the Fun Ford show at Norwalk will be alot better. I know they said this year there was 3000 cars there including show cars but the most of them was racing. I think there was over 150 show cars there.
