ok....I am not having a very good day today folks. Check this out, my last dyno pull on the Cobra was a stock pull. I got 247.6 HP and 249.00 TQ. That seemed fairly normal for a stock 98 snake. I recently added a Pro-m 87mm MAF, JBA shorties, 4:10's and a Bassani X w/cats. I GAINED 10 HP!!!!! WTF!!!! Todays reading was 257.8 HP 255.8 TQ......I paid $1500.00+ dollars for 10 HP!!! Does anyone have any ideas how this happened? My only guess is that the performance shop that has the dyno is under-rating peoples numbers so they will want to buy more products. Look at my mods in my sig and tell me if 257.8 sounds right, any ideas are appreciated. thx -Rob

I've got a '96 and had it dynoed with the pullies and Bassani x/wcats and got 257hp. I put the WMS w/pro-m 87 and got 275hp.

I just noticed you were from CA, does that make a difference with all the pollution controls?

as far as i know, the California Cobras run the same same smog equipment as the rest, we just have a harder time passing smog.

Two suggestions....

1) Go to another dyno shop and see if you pull different numbers....could tell you if your current shop is reading low. Are those numbers SAE, STD or Actual? SAE is what you want.

2) Go to the track and see what you run. That's a better representation of the power you are making then a dyno. Your trap speed will give you an idea.......

247 stock is pretty low, most dyno in the 260+ range stock. The gear swap can show some loss of HP readings on the dyno though only a small amount (according to Dynojet). Did you get an A/F ratio reading when you dyno'ed? That could tell you if you are running rich which will hurt your power. What type plugs and what gap are you running them? Copper plugs are better for performance than Platinum and for a naturally aspirated car you'll want to gap at .054.

Just some suggestions.....
My '97 dyno'ed at 276hp 277tq with just a Bassani X with cats, FMS shorty headers and 4.10 gears.

I run Autolite plugs gapped at .054 and my air/fuel ratio was 13.5 which seems a little lean. I plan on getting a second dyno at a different shop. The car feels really good, but that might be the 4:10's fooling me....i just dont get it :(

Go to another dyno dude..that's the only way to be certain..You plannin on gettin a chip...

yes, dyno tuned chip will be my next mod....but first i have to find a performance shop that knows what they are doing:) -Rob

ok....the results are in and i'm am happy for now.:) I got a second opinion at Superior Automotive in Anaheim. I pulled 273.3 HP and 272.5 TQ.....those numbers seem a lot better considering the recent mods. Factor in the 2-4% loss due the gears and I am at what I expected. Thanks guys for you input. -Rob
