View Full Version : Reasons for Oil Loss/Consumption

Checked the oil yesterday and noticed I was pretty low on oil, damn near 2 qts. So, I crawled my old Elvis a$$ under the car and found no leaks around the pan or the rear of the block. I do have a little buildup on the breather tube. So, other than pulling each plug and looking for indications there, what other options do I have? Compression test? Also, what could be the cause? There's no noticeable power loss, if any at all, so I'm kind of confused a bit. :doubt:

Don't the '99's have a low oil light? On my '96 it comes on at 1 quart low.

If the oil isn't leaking out anywhere there are really only 3 possibilities for using it. It could be getting past the rings, past the valve guides/seals or a blown head gasket. Usually the head gasket would show some other problems.

FWIW, my '96 has always used oil when on the track, but not much at other times.
