View Full Version : Battery Light Problem

The battery idiot light on the dash of my '97 started coming on, although the charging gauge is on "M" when the car is running. I checked the voltage at the battery terminals: with the car off, it's at 12V and running its at 14.2V. It does drop when I turn on elec accessories, but only 0.1 V or so, so it seems both the charging gauge and the alternator is functioning. I have pulled the connectors on the alternator and cleaned them, but no change.

It doesn't seem like the alternator / voltage regulator is malfunctioning, and the battery is less than a year old with full cells.

Mostly stock '97 vert with cat backs, CAI, FMS 9mm wires...

Any ideas?

You have one of these problems:

Battery: Have it checked out at Autozone
Alternator/regulator: Have it checked out at Autozone (Ithink this is the culprit)
Bad connections: Check all ground wires going to the block from the firewall and battery. You may have corrosion setting in and your computer is telling you that.

Try the connection check first and then proceed to take your car to autozone for a check up.

Hope that helps?;)
