Will a fox body rear axle fit under a 99 cobra? MY friend has one and I was going to swap them out and was wondering if it would work.

I had a friend here in Winston that tore his rear axle up pretty badly in a 2001 GT I believe. When he ordered the new 31 spline axle and was trying to put it in he found after a couple of hours of working with it that it was too short to work and when he contacted the company they told him that they probably sent one for a fox body so it leads me to believe that the swap wont work properly, I could be wrong but someone else will pick up where I left off. Good luck though!

Fox body Mustangs, including the1993 Cobra, have a rear track width of 57.0 inches.
1994-1998 Mustangs have a rear track width of 58.7 inches. I believe that 8.8 axle housings are the same between the Fox body and 1994-1998 SN-95 Mustangs, but the axle shafts are longer on the SN-95 cars to allow addition of the ABS exciter ring (optional on Mustang, standard on Cobra).

Beginning in 1999 rear track width on Mustang GT's grew to 60.1 inches using a wider axle housing and longer axles. 1999 and up Cobra's have a rear track width of 59.9 inches. Replacing 1999 and up Cobra IRS with a live axle should be done with a 1999 and up GT rear end.
