If it was racedthen the engine is probally not original. The last years of production of the 427 SOHC are the engines to get. The first several years the walls between the pistons were to thin, the blocks would crack or completely blow apart. They were the baddest of the bad in their day, even todays cars could not stand up to this beast. There is a company in San Antonio that specializes in these engines as well as in Dallas.

What bay would that be? Down in Florida you can't touch a house on the bay, the sound or any stretch of water for less than $400,00.00 :nono:

WOW!!! MEMORY LANE!!!
My dad took me to work one day... Said a race car had come off the trailer on the NY State Thruway....
It was in the body shop....
Not a maroon one though.... I was 12.. I think...
64 Thunderbolt.... Body shop guy( a friend of dads), Fired it up!!!

whooom......pucketa...pucketa...wahooom!!!
Race Gas!
I was hooked... I think it was a white one.

That one on E-Bay is VERY RARE!....... Not SOHC though... They came later..
Mickey Made those heads from a chrysler hemi..... push rod...
SOHC had chain covers though they were a hemi also, they moved the plug location to avoid copy right problems...
QUOTE
It was the car #10 that Mickey entered into a contract with Ford to design and engineer a hemispherical head version of the Ford 427 Center oiler engine. The heads were cast from Chrysler hemi heads and machined to fit the Ford block. The intake manifold was designed with the carburetors side by side. The name "Thompson" was cast directly into the valve covers.
