OK folks here is the new schedule for the Oct. 22nd event.

Gates open at 0630 hours
Tech from 0700 till 0800
Driver's Meeting / Walkdown 0815-0900
First Car off at 0900
Last Car off at 1900
If all goes well we will each get NINE (9) runs!!! We are going to allow 36 cars this time. We will be in four groups of 9. The work schedule will be set so that you always have a break between your runs and your work period. Here is how it works:

Group Running-Group Working
-----1-------------3-------
-----2-------------4-------
-----3-------------1-------
-----4-------------2-------
-----1-------------3-------
-----2-------------4-------
-----3-------------1-------
-----4-------------2-------
-----1-------------3-------
-----2-------------4-------
-----3-------------1-------
-----4-------------2-------

Everyone should be able to get something to eat during one of their breaks.

To make this work everyone will need to be on-time ready for tech. Make sure your group is in place to take over for the previous group when it is your group's turn to work and your group needs to be lined up in order and ready to go when it is your group's turn to run. I have rebuilt the PCA's timing system and will test it in the next good rain we get!! If we all pull togather we can have a fun day get some time to watch others run and get a lot of seat time!

Awesome, SCMC's reputation went through the roof this weekend as far as Knoxville car guys go, everyone was pleased and impressed with the festivities.

Haz...you are my hero. (snif snif):p

I should be getting several registrations in the mail this week. If you want in on this event you need to get registered soon!

True, in all honesty...we need more Cobras at this next event, if it hadn't been for an experienced SCCA driver in a Mustang GT, the Ford guys would have had their asses handed to them:

1st- 02 Mustang GT
2nd- 87 Vette
3rd- 02 Vette
4th- 99 Trans Am
5th- 79 VW Scirocco
6th- 97 Cobra
7th- 98 Cobra
8th- 04 Mustang GT
9th- 03 WRX
10th- 02 Honda Civic

It's all for fun...true.
BUT, I say we bring out the big guns for the next 411 event!

You know who you are, so get your checks in! It's time to put all that expensive Maximum Motorsports stuff to work! :)

I am still trying toget a friend of mine to come and play, drives a 97 vette and has never played with it. He does own a 67 and 69 mustang so he not all bad.

I will try that approach. Have another friend with an '03 Cobra I am trying to get to come, but he does not want to put that kind of miles on the car. He is trying to kleep it low mileage. He has had his for all most a year and has 6,000 miles on it. I have had mine since Late April and have 4300 miles on it. I do not understand not driving and playing with them.

I'd love to do it, but Leah used up all of her vacation time quite a while back (only downside to working for a dealership, very little vacation time and almost no holidays off) and I am closing down one company and starting another on 10/1 to take its place (long story). How about some predictions. Who will have the fastest Cobra? How about the fastest overall?

I predict the fastest Cobra will be Mark McCrary in his low mile all stock 93. Dave Stanfield may come in there, he has a lot of seat time, plenty of power to spare, and a well sorted car. If it is dry, Dave might get the nod due to having more than double the horsepower.

I predict the fastest overall will be Tony once again.

Ha!
You are the Roscoe P. Coletrain to my Bo Duke.
You are the Buford T. Justice to my Bandit.
I am Schumaker and you are Dick Trickle (..okay that one's a little far fetched)

Prediction: (more like wishful thinking):)
1. Bolton (marked man.)
2. Loope (this guy is on a mission to get Tony, I think he will come close.)
3. Marshall (ahem...thinking positively.)
4. Miller (would really run much better if he removed his pseudo-slick tires.)
5. R. McNutt (seems to be slipping, I think his age is showing...teehee.)
6. Rife (this guy knows the track now...he may be a factor.)
7. J. McNutt (when she learns to drop the hammer...she will destroy us all.)
8. Sorrentino (I'm gonna catch hell for this prediction.)
9. Huff
10. Mirse

Unknowns:
Willocks (BIG unknown??)
McCrary
Moss
Claussen
Reed

In all honesty...as long as I finish in the top 10 I'll be very happy. :D:D

If some of those narrow gates were widened even a little bit, I'd have a much better chance at a 65 sec. run. This thing is awfully wide out there.

Wow, Brett doesn't even have Dave Stansfield in the top 10. Hey Brett, you do know he has nearly 500rwhp and a car setup for track events right? He is also an experienced driver, though I'm not sure about his autocross experience.

Mark McCrary is normally a Miata driver, but he runs in the Pro class locally and is competing at the Solo 2 Nationals this year. I think he trophied at nationals last year.

As long as it doesn't rain I've got MUCH better tires under my car now. Softer, stickier, and more tread. I might even get a wild hair and put some lowering springs under it between now and then.

Lets eliminate, or at least widen' some of those entry/exit gates. That would keeps speeds up, while decreasing cone-chasing duties which would speed up the entire show. I mean, still keep it technical, but just not as harsh. It can be done, while still be perfectly safe, im sure.

Also, I may be on street tires for this event, sooooooo, you never know :(

I ran 76.84 at the 5th, which would have put me about 26th or 27th at the Aug. event. I am hoping to better my time and make it in to the lower 70's or even high 60's. Only thing different is the roll bar and exhaust, so if I do not get lost on the track.....:rotf: Top ten here I come, hopefully

Your probably right...but I'll wait to see them drive first.
It's like the big, bad, loud "racing Vettes" that showed up for the last event.
I was like "ut-oh, it's over"...then they really didn't run that impressively.

I think the key to that track (like any track/road) is learning it so well that you don't have to think "turn in at X-point", your body just automatically turns at X-point. That's what makes you fast (or at least it seems to be what's making me a little faster...that and my unbridled determination to destroy Rick McNutt and his girly-man vert.);)

I think already knowing the track is a huge advantage that we have over the newer arrivals.

But, what do I know...I'm mostly a clueless newbie myself. :(

Anyone know about travel conditions on I-40 west of Asheville? Some lanes open?

Part of the road has slidden in just past the NC border...so it is only 2 lanes for about 1/4 mile or so. My wife and I drove through there a couple of weeks ago and we just scooted right through with little delay.
However, on our way back the opposite lane was packed all the way up the mtn. from TN. So I guess we just got lucky, I'd leave an hour early just in case you're one of the "unlucky ones". Or plan your trip when there's little traffic.

It's a relative size thing. An aircraft carrier moving at 40 knots doesn't look like it is moving nearly as fast as a speedboat running at the same speed.:D

As for the exhaust, you just about deafened my ears when I was at the timing table. I had to put my hands over them. Tony - Sorry about your ears. Brett made me do it. :) To be honest, I don't think that it makes the car any faster, but it sounds faster and tends to be popular with the crowd. It helps by about 0.15 seconds and 1.5 mph in the 1/8th mile, but I don't think it does anything on the autocross circuit.

I said to myself, all that noise and you still trailed me. That was until the last run! :D Well, this taxi doesn't have anywhere near the 390 HP that your Cobra came with from the factory and I probably spot you 400-500 lbs. I was peddling as fast as I could. If you show up with race rubber next time, you should easily be quicker (but we'll see:D ).

Thanks again. I had a great time.

To be honest with you Leadsled..... I was major impressed! I'll probably still keep the Cobra but you guys were kicking butt and taking names and if you didn't hit some cones on some of your runs, some of those other drivers on this BB would not be bragging about being 5th or 6th... :rotf:

I certainly think contrary to popular belief that hp does make a big difference when AXing. You have to have torque to pull you out from basically a stand still and those two go hand in hand. If I don't do as well with sticky tires then it'll be time for an OR pipe and a pulley to get those extra ponies I will need to be more competitive.

You just don't know how much I love running over there. Basically, I wish I lived around there just to get to run once a month! :D

Horsepower and torque is not everything. Its mainly about handling. I have driven many of the new Cobra's (I sell them new) they have plenty of motor. If I was going to spend money on it I would work on suspension. Just my .02.

tnturbo
10-26-2004, 12:38 AM
I'm not being cocky, though I am VERY happy with how my little broke down car did. I have never run an SCMC autocross in the dry before. Had the previous 2 events there been nice and dry I would have done much better. Especially at the 5th anniversary, the group I was running in had 4 cars and with the runs being nearly back to back I could have gotten even more heat into the tires and they would have done even better.

I HAAAATE driving in the rain. There is nothing worse in my book. If there is ever another SCMC autocross in the rain I will either run the Taurus SHO beater or stay at the house.

I think power could be of good use on the 411 course.

Tony, you could always let the other Tony drive your car. Then you could see if power made a lot of difference or not.

cobrabitn
10-26-2004, 06:42 AM
I know power made a lot of difference. I've only been to that track three times and when I switched from the 94 Cobra to the 2004.....*poof* I dropped 8 seconds on my time. I'm sure the other factors are the "nut behind the wheel" and maybe a few suspension parts like cc plates but I doubt I'll need much more then that. Tony B said if I had good tires, I could gain another 2 to 4 seconds on my time. After that, it would be pretty much all driver.

I still believe in power because if those Mazda's had more power then they would have put us to even more shame. You canhave all the handling stuff you need but if you can't back it up then you pretty much are "all dressed up with no where to go". Just my opinion though... :)

I was teasing you about being cocky Jeff! You have to learn my sense of humor! :)

Good to see the new schedule. I need about 30 more passes until I really learn the course route. 3DNF's last time due to my confusion on where to turn.

Yeah 4 dates next year so get your AX tires out! I'm sorry Lead, if I would have found some pics with Cobra guys doing it, I'd have gladly put them in there but unfortunately, you were the guinea pig! :rotf:

There were two grammatical errors I found afterwards, for some reason the link doesn't work for the results, and it should have been Brett that was with Roick and not Jeff. Hope to get all of that fixed this weekend. Like always, I just wanted everyone to have a funny read! :D

P.S. Lisa, I'm not going to let you take credit for my driving skills.... :rotf:

Tony - No offense taken. It was a humorous read and obviously "tongue in cheek". You spared ole Rick some embarassment with the non-functioning link, though. Nobody will know that he got beat by a 4200 lb. four door. :D

We'll be back for sure next year. The "Cobra Club" is made up of a bunch of fun people who are great hosts.

BTW - Don't sell yourself short. There are WAY more than two grammatical errors.

Well it was late and I didn't get my English teacher to read or correct my grammar. I guess that's what I get for wanting to have it out in a hurry. Man this thread is still alive and the event has been over for a month now! :)
