I never knew there was a black Cobra R. Guess I need to get one of those SVT Mustang Cobra Recognition guides. Wonder what the selling price will be? Will be a nice collector's car though!http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=6236&item=2484242759&rd=1

"It is REAL" it is the original prototype '93 Cobra R. Look in MM&FF Aug. 2004 pg.72 it shows that exact same Cobra w/ (#2) on the door.  Very cool car.

A friend in Atlanta owns it (it was a no-sale on Ebay [didn't meet the reserve]). It is the prototype for the 93R's. I've seen it and the docs. It is nice (and authenic). He bought it from a guy in Calif. and had it shipped here.

The owner brought the car to the NASA SE event at Road Atlanta last weekend (8/14 & 8/15).

It was parked next to the '93 #23 Cobra R owned by a resident of Winder, GA. It was interesting comparing the two. The engines looked identical.

The owner of the prototype let me drive it on the track. The black R has a much stronger motor than the regular production car. It pulls hard from 2K rpm to 6K rpm (hitting 140 mph from T-7 to T-9). You can hear the different cam. I suspect it also has ported heads and intake. It has a serious full cage (from the Ford testing as documented in the owner's paperwork).

It is unusual in that Ford sends most of the prototypes to the crusher. It is a rare car. I think I remember that they had two 95R protos (one was destroyed in a road race).

Historic? Yes. Value? I have no idea.

Cool .... especially cool to now the car is used as it was meant to be.
A lot of unique Mustang in the METRO Atlanta area.
