Itinerary:
Meeting spot, driving route, and activities agenda :

Each City will meet at Austin Saturday morning about 12:30 (Between 12-1)
-the Houston crew will depart from 290 and 1960 between (8:30 and 9) and straight shot to Austin, cruising. Once we get to Austin, we will meet up with other people comming in from different cities at the same HEB (keep an eye on this as its one item still under debate). We will eat a quick lunch as the Austin folks arrive. We plan on departing for the Hill county at 1:15.

The Meeting spot in Austin (for now):
HEB at the corner of HWY 620 and HWY 2222
The Address is:
HEB
7301 Ranch Road 620 N
Austin Tx 78726

There is a few place to eat by HEB. McDonalds, Subway, Pizaa, Starbucks for the coffee junkies (Like me), and a BBQ Place called Smokey J's.

The Cruise:
We will do the hill country cruise, similar to last year, and end up at the Oasis. I believe there is a pit stop beforehand.

We will arrive at the Oasis between 5:30 and 6:00 and organize for a nice dinner.

After the Oasis, we will cruise towards Austin, with a possible pit stop. The group will seperate with one part going to the Parking lot GTG in North Austin and one group will go to the Hotel and Check in, then hit up 6th Street.

Sunday:
Those who don't have to get back to town early can eat breakfast, and come take the scenic route back to Houston or whatever city.

Sunday, checkout is by Noon.

Two Things.

Who would be in for going on the cruise, and what weekend do you suggest?

Of course, we encourage everyone from other cities to get a group and meet us in Austin for the hill country cruise.

Lets hear from everyone.

We're in if the weekend does not interfere with FFw in Ennis!

Well, the first weekend (9/4) is Labor Day holiday, so that could present some problems. The third weekend is FFW, so guess that leaves the 2nd or 4th.

As of now, either works for us :)

I just want to see everyone again and join in all the turn-action fun down the twisty hills.

Does anyone have a preference on the route? We can either follow the same route we did for the Spring Cruise which was Lime Creek Rd to Hwy 1431 into Marble Falls, then Hwy 71 back to Austin. Or some of us Austin people can take a side-bar and see if we can come up with something different.

If everyone wants to stop at the Oasis for dinner/drinks at sunset we can work that location into the end of the cruise. The Oasis is just a couple miles from the parking lot we started the Spring Cruise in.

Hey guys welcome back to the hill country. Mystic pm ed me to let me know you were coming back. The local Mustang club is going to a drive in Movie in SA on the 25th. If that is too much travel I can try to setup a cruise that ends at the Oasis. Lime creek road is a given. I saw 4 motorcyclists jailed on 1431 near Marble Falls on Sunday. Bring detectors. There is a resort that has just been totally refurbed in lago Vista if you guys want to stay out there this time. Otherwise we can go back to downtown after the Oasis. Let me know what works and I'll put some back roads together to get there.

03sonicblueaus
08-18-2004, 04:28 PM
I have an idea for a cool route. We could do close to what we did last time only backwards. We start at 620 & 2222. Go South on 620 to Hwy 71. Go west on 71 to 281. Turn right into Marble Falls. Break at Sonic and get Coleman another blower belt. Go to 1431 East to lago Vista. Continue to Lime Creek Road. Ther is a shortcut to the oasis after we go through Volente on Lime Creek.

If we stay in lago there is another cool road off of 1431 that goes to Bertram, TX then everyone can cruise home from there on Sunday.

Jon, part of the cruise IS cruising from Houston to Austin.

Basically the cruise had TWO parts. Part 1 is each City Cruising to Austin. And after all the different cities meet in Austin in once Central location, Part 2 is doing a Hill county cruise with ALL the cars. Its a blast.

We all meet in morning at 290 and 1960/hwy6 To cruise to Austin. Specific Details to come.

I will P.M. ya

There has been mention of a few car hang out in and around Austin, but I know that some people's SO's might not want to spend the later part of the evening standing in a parking lot.

**note to self...send Carl another check ;) ** Edmond is working hard to squeeze the best deal out of the hotels given the circumstances (home game weekend, parking, location, etc.). It promises to be a fun event and we will have hotel information in plenty of time to book the rooms. We want to be able to provide secure parking for all of the cars and I'm pretty sure everyone agrees that issue is a priority. Factor in the entertainment issue and "walking distance." We have narrowed it down and will make a final decision within 24 hours. Just trying to get everyone the best deal. It will be a fun cruise, just like last time, and the powers that be hope to provide a great route and entertainment for the masses. Thanks for your continued patience. :)

****UPDATE-****

I am waiting on the last piece of contract to be faxed to me so that I can sign it and fax it back, but as things stand, we will be staying at the Radisson again.

I was able to haggle the price down to $105 for the night + $11 for parking. They are especially being hard asses since there is college football.

We will be a few blocks from 6th street. Those who have gone in the past, should remember it well.

The best price I got from other downton hotels with a parking garage for the snakes was $169 from the Hilton and $140 for the Omni

As soon as I get the confirmation faxed back, I will post it here with a number to call and the code to give to get the group rate

Thanks for everyone's help, support, and patience..

Thanks to Rachel for researching what bands are playing that night..we should be able find something as entertaining as last time. For info go to http://www.austinmetro.com/musicdat02.html and go to the bottom of the page

And thanks for Matt and Chris from Austin for helping setting the days activities....

Im glad it's finally coming together. The hangout that Coleman mentioned rocks. No ricers so far. Two weeks ago there were over 75 cars. The only thing beating down big attendance has been the weather. We had three terminators there last week to represent. It would be cool to have the big guns there one Saturday. Everyone would crap to see a 2k cobra R and the kenny belle terminators.

We couldn't find anything about a marathon, so I think we are safe.

This is the only thing I could find:
Old Pecan Street Fall Arts Festival

After the Oasis, some of the Austin people might head to this hang out. It is actually in a town named Cedar Park and is in the complete opposite direction as your hotel. If you want to go here, you could go hang out and leave whenever you want in order to spend some time on 6th Street if that's on your agenda. It's very easy to get to your hotel and 6th from Cedar Park (only about 20 miles).

Those people that want to go to spend the maximum amount of time on 6th Street, they should probably just go check in at the hotel and then hit 6th.

Either choice should be fun, it just depends on what kind of fun you want.

Right, as Matt said. Towards the end of the night, after the Oasis, the group that wants to go hang out in the parking lot in Cedar Park will break off and the rest will go check into the Hotel and hit up 6th street for the nightlife.

As long as you reserve your Room under the club block with a credit card, you can check in as late as you want.

Awesome Darrell, you are added.

Also, there is only 7 rooms left on the reserve list, and they will only be held till monday the 13th. So....if you have not reserved a room, please do so.

Remember, you can always cancel till 6p.m. the night of arrival. So ,if you are not sure you are going, it is better to reserve a room and cancel if you don't go, instead of going without a reservation and not having a room.

The itinerary is coded into the first thread. But I will put a seperate section to make it more clear.

Once he gets the final word, we will post about this.
The issues I see with having everyone go to the Ford dealer are:

1. The parking there is basically non-existent, and I can't get the guy who offered lunch to tell me where he would suggest we park or if he would have dedicated space for us.

2. The intersection that this dealer resides on is very busy, and virtually impossible to get more than a couple cars out of at a time.

So if we did go here for lunch, there is a great possibility the group's parking places would be scattered on side streets all over the place, and we would definitely get split up into many small groups trying to get out of there, with a high probability of some of the group getting separated and lost.

It was great of them to offer, but I think we are asking for problems if we do it. Just my $.02.

Well still debating if Im gonna go.....My rear diff. is leaking (not too bad, but leaking) and money is tight.....Im pretty sure every hotel is booked and Im out a room, so I dont know what I should do....Id LOVE to go, but I just dont know if I can make it happen???.....Decisions decisions:( :( ---Jon

I really hope you can make it dude. If it really comes down to having somewhere to stay, let us know. Some people might have a reserved room they won't use and can transfer.

Hey doesn't your cobra have a fold down rear seat? Night accomodations problem solved. Next go to LJF to scarf down all of the free pizza we are going to pass on. If you can siphon fuel I see a free weekend.

:rotf:

Although free pizza would be awesome, from what Matt is saying of the dealership, sounds like it might cause more problem than its worth.

That is awesome of them to offer though.

stop by along the way.

we already had time set aside for eating lunch.
i'm going to swing the dallas crowd over there if they'll still have us.

i don't see what could be so tough? :doubt:

Coleman, I think you are missing the point, I dont think most of the group from Houston cares about eating pizza at a car dealership regardless if it is free or not. I myself would not be interrested in doing this. If you want to take Yourrrrr people knock yourself out. Were going to the Oasis in the afternoon as planned to have a good time.

... i don't see what could be so tough? :doubt:It really is a PITA to get in and out of the place. I don't know if there is still road construction next to the dealership, but the last time I went that made it even worse. He is not exaggerating either when he says there is no parking. It is a very small dealership with as many cars as they can possibly fit on the lot. I can't imagine where we would be able to park 5 cars, let alone 20+ cars. I really think it was great of Lance to offer, but I too think it will end up causing issues trying to keep everyone together.

i don't see what could be so tough? :doubt:That's cool, it should be easier keeping 5 cars together than 20+. I'm trying to help keep things easy for the whole group. With that in mind I personally think it would be difficult keeping the group together leaving to go on the cruise. There is ALLOT of traffic in that area (especially on the weekends) since the largest mall in north Austin is right across the street, it's also where 290 bottlenecks from a 6 lane divided highway down to a 2 lane neighborhood street that is completely screwed up due to construction. Like I said, just my $.02, but to me it's more hassle than $5.00 of pizza is worth. I think it's awesome of them to offer too, and I wish they were in a more convenient location.

Having said all that, why don't we get a count of who wants to go, and let the guy from the dealer know who will be coming. I haven't told the guy we were or weren't coming, and so far I haven't had very much luck getting him to respond to my questions either on the forum or from PMs, hopefully you'll have better luck. If the majority of the group decides it's worth it, I'll go to help guide people out and to the cruise route, and I'm sure Chris (the other Austin guy) will as well.

So, sound off if you want to go to Leif Johnson Ford for free pizza.

I drove by there today to check it out for the cruise, the construction is still there and parking is a joke. The dealership employees all have to park on the street curbs of all the streets surrounding the dealership, some people were even parked on the sidewalks (and that is NOT and exaggeration).

I watched 3 different local Austin news casts tonight, the estimates are ranging from a 20% to 40% chance of scattered t'showers (mostly in the afternoon). So it's hit or miss whether we'll get wet or not.

Thanks IVAN

this is still on... btw..unless something major starts happening.

It was supposed to be flooded in Sugar Land by 8 tonight, but we haven't had a drop of rain.

I think weather people are all just guessing at this point.

as far as the Pizza, it would be cool if they wanna come meet us at HEB, but given the reasons so far, the group as a whole will not be going there, unless a small group sets up something.

if anything changes, you guys can reach me at 281-660-7347 since its right around the corner.

Sorry about the weather guys. Now it looks like the storm track goes directly to Austin on Saturday, but I'll see what I can do.

I should have a spare room anyway. If I go it is about 90% I will be alone, so I will share with Phil and can give up my room.

I will wait on the weather but may decide tonight not to go at all.

I suggest that we all make a group rain-out decision tonight or in the morning so as to not waste money or have only a few folks show up.

We can pick an alternate weekend in Nov and try again. This way we can all cancel our hotel but rebook with them so they don't get pissed or anything.

Well, the hill county will be no fun in a rainstorm. So if its real bad the whole thing will be called off and we will reschedule. Obviously everyone would have to cancel their room by 6p.m.

Having said that, this storm has done a bunch of wierd things, so I am hoping it will leave by tomorrow. It was supposed to flood a better part of Houston, and it barely sprinkled by me.

As far as anyone who had a spare room, before you cancel, post in here and we can see if those who did get a room in time can get it transfered to them.

For safety reasons, i want to put up a motion to officialy cancel the event for safety reasons. This will give everyone plenty of time to cancel their reservations. No fun can be had in the hill country with wet roads and alot of horsepower. :( According to the NWS in San Antonio, the chances of rain is above 40% at the minimum with most of the rain concentrated south & central texas. Austin weather predicts a 60% chance of rain on saturday and 40% on sunday.

I don't like big puddles and big tires skipping across the road....just too much risk for all of us IMO. I will be canceling as it is too much risk for me at this time with my new :baby: 3 weeks away from arriving.

EDIT: If it is not raining in the morning, i will re-evaluate and check the SAT and ATX weather before committing 100%.

Now they are saying its moving north east.

Yeah, we are gonna sit tight, and as of right now the cruise is still on untill further notice.

FYI, if you are on not-rain-safe tires... we are not going to do anything stupid to begin with, so if we do get to a point where the road is wet, we will be taking extra cautions.

this may be moot if the trip is delayed, but Lance @ Leif Johnson Ford in Austin states:

We are going to clear an area in front of the dealership at the corner of airport and 290 for the whole crew. Should be plenty of room for everyone. We park about 30 to 40 new mustangs and trucks out there at all times.

Yes, I didn't want to rain on any parade. I not for cancelling the trip as of now. I am still in until I am out. I Just vote that we pick a time, and maybe set up a poll for clearly who is in and who is out. Then Firme or the group can decide if we have enough folks to go, or just reschedule.

I just watched the local Austin weather again. They are showing that the majority of the rain will be southeast of Austin, and the cruise route will take us northwest where they show no rain at all. So far tomorrow is looking like it will be partly to mostly cloudy in Austin with a slight chance of scattered showers.

It has been partly cloudy all day today, I have been all over town and haven't been hit by a single drop. Right now it is sunny, and I don't see a single cloud in the sky by my house.

Okay, Here is the latest from our local Austin CBS, NBC and ABC meteorologists:

A slight chance of light showers is projected for tomorrow. They all said no severe or heavy rain will hit Austin. Most showers will stay well to the southeast of town. So the weather looks favorable for the cruise to go off without a hitch.

Hopefully they are right and we will have another great hill country cruise and everyone who decided not to come will be kicking themselves.
