how much would FMS 3.73s gears run and how much would they charge to do it?

I would go with 4.10s or 4.30s (modular motors love to rev).

Here is a link to some pricing

I would guess that it would cost around $200 for the install

Cost to install on a IRS equiped Cobra will run approx. $350 from a reputable
garage in southeast Michigan.

About $200 for the install and around $130 for the gears. I seriously suggest you rethink your 3.73 choice and go with something that has 4.xx in it (4.10, 4.30)

Don't forget to have your speedometer recalibrated.....

I was thinking about 3.73's as well. The reason is I run my 98 Cobra w/stock motor in open track events and thoughts were the car would get up to speed faster with out having to shift as much as 4.10's. Looking for something that pulls harder then the 3.27's.

our vehicles (4.6) lack the torque down low which is why people go with 4.10's and 4.30's...they will get you in your powerband quicker which will get you up to speed faster. ever wonder why a stock 99+ GT can go toe to toe with an LS1 'maro from 0-60 even though the LS1 has about 70 more horses? its all in the gearing. The LS1s first gear is a 2.xx vs the GT's 3.xx which gives the GT the advantage off the line...and since its gearing allows it to get into its powerband quickly it can keep up with the faster car...once the LS1 hits third the gearing advantage is over...so with its extra power it passes by the stang.

I personally have 4.30's in mine and they're great. Car literally came alive when compared to the 3.27's. Just so you know...shift points on a cobra with 4.30's are right around 30,60,90,120 with a theoretical top speed of 17x(if I remember right)

Don't go with 3.73's...they're great for 5.0s that have a broader torqueband and poop out after 5000-5500 rpms...but not so great for a 7k revving cobra that doesn't even hit its peak tq #s until 4k rpms and its peak hp #'s until its above 6k rpms...

On a road course like Gingerman Raceway in Michigan, I run 3rd and 4th
gear using the 4.10. Shifting 3rd to 4th is more efficient than
shifting from 2nd to 3rd (3.27 gear)especially with an aftermarket shifter.
3rd gear has a ton of low speed pull when using the 4.10.

Hope this helps. Good luck with whatever gear you pick.
