Here is one for you Jimmy: There have been 3 separate FORD cars that have been bestowed the name Cobra to it. Name all three.............AC Cobra aka the Shelby Cobra is not one of them.

KR stood for king of the road

Tasca Ford invented the term with a special Dealer installed High preformance package for 390 mustangs...
Which included 428 alum PI 4brl intake, 427 medium riser heads,.... and some other stuff that I can't remember right now.....I'll dig up the article.
Tasca.....hmmm or was it Gas Rhonda :chairshot
Anyway he went to Ford and told them about his package, and how we really needed to have it available from the factory.....because Chevy and Mopar were killing us!
several months later....
Ford announced the 428 cobra jets for 1968 1/2...(with almost all the same stuff as the KR package)
By then I believe the competition had already used the name.

Yes, my step sister sold Angela her first car. It was a '80 Mustang Cobra Hatch. It had the big cheesy vinyl blue Cobra on the hood with a 255 V8 Auto.
