View Full Version : roll bar for 03 cobra convertible

I am looking for a roll bar for a 2003 cobra convertible. I would prefer a bolt-in that won't require cutting of the back seat or interior panels. Does anyone out there have any good ideas?

Take a look at Competition Cages in Hillsborough http://www.competitioncages.com/. Chris did a great job on my 99- a few pictures are on the website- a superb quality, bolt-in with a removable harness bar.

I went with an Autopower Rollbar. But I did a rear seat delete. Also I had to trim a plastic flange a little but not where anyone would see it. If you anre doing this for on track events make sure that it is SCCA certified.

There is a picture of my rollbar in the snakepit. Sorry I am to stupid to post it here.

I think if it is going to be NHRA legal, you'll have to have rear braces. I have a Maximum Motorsports 6-pt in my 03. It is bolt-in and it's NHRA legal to 10 flat if you weld the rear braces to the main hoop. I had mine welded. MM instructions tell you to cut a slot in your rear inner quarter panel covers and then glue the strip back in the slot. I didn't like that so I tried to see if it was possible to drill holes and slip them on the rear braces and then slide them into place. From the pics you can see that it works. You could make a plastic bushing to line the hole but I like mine the way it is. I think it looks pretty sharp and it definatley doesn't look hacked up.

Who did you get your seats from?

I bought them from On Track Performance out of MI. I would not recommend him. I had trouble with them in the past. The owner only works the phone from 3-8 pm. He will not answer emails and he will not return phone calls. I was going to buy a set from him when I first got my 03 in June of '02 but he wouldn't respond. Later I tried to get info on a Spec clutch and he never responded. I eneded up buying a set of Corbeaus and OTP called me after I had ordered the Corbeaus and I told them thery were too late. A few months ago I ordered a set of Cobra Misano L's and they kept pushing back the delivery date. It was at four months that I dropped the order. I searched for Recaro and ended up going back to OTP even though what I knew. I originally ordered the cloth velour seats. When they came in there was just the boxes for the seats. I knew they had thrown the mounting brackets in the boxes with the seats. To my disbelief they had thrown the brackets on top of the seat. I pulled out the first one and sure enough there was a hole in the lower seat bolster. The other seat had a hole in the back side. I went through hell getting back in contact with OTP. They made it right but I went through a lot of heart burn. The seats were used. Even the mounting brackets were used. There was no documentation in the boxes. The owner told me Recaro Speed Seats don't come with documentation. Funny, the seats I have now that came direct form Recaro did. The seats he sent me were in another car or were demos. He tried to pawn them off on me. He was too pushy on me buying the velour over the vinyl/saturn naps seats I have now. I just don't trust them. There are a few companies that sell Recaro and all have the same prices. Avoid On Track Performance. I had to go through Recoar to put some fire under their butt to make it right.

As the owner of On-Track Performance and an SVT owner I only feel it's right that everyone hear both sides of this story.

First off Larry you needed the seats immediately. I can't remember what you needed them for exactly but you needed them ASAP. I told you we could order the seats you wanted or I gave you a selection of seats we had in stock. You chose the ones we had in stock. I didn't make you buy them but you needed seats IMMEDIATELY and YOU made the choice which seats you bought. Many people on this board know who I am and the last thing I am is pushy. The seats you purchased WERE new and came straight from Recaro. I only opened the boxes to place the brackets (which were in their own box) in with the seats.

We shipped the brackets in the same box as the seats as we have for over 2200 other seats which we have NEVER had a problem with. ALL other Recaro dealers will do this as well. It saves you shipping costs and the risk, up until your situation, was minimal. When you called and advised us that your seats were damaged we agreed to make things right IMMEDIATELY! There was NO fussing at all. You were called back within a couple of hours of your original call and I apologize if that was not quick enough. We sent call tags out at our cost and got the seats back as quick as we could. I also jumped through hoops with Recaro to get you a replacement seat of seats ASAP (which turned out to be about a week) even though there was a 3 week wait to get seats from Recaro.

Since this incident we have changed our packaging of our brackets and now add a layer of bubble wrap between the seat and the bracket/slider box as an extra measure.

If you honestly believe that you went through Recaro to put a fire under my butt (your words) you are sorely mistaken. I will make sure that ANY customer with a problem has their situation resolved to their satisfaction (within reason). If you feel that you were not treated right then I apologize but I am VERY confident that any other Dealers or seat Manufacturers would treat you as well as we did. You can argue this point as much as you would like but you did state that you HAD Corbeaus in your car and decided to have them replaced after about a year. That says something about the quality of those seats and how much they stand behind their product. Did Corbeau offer to make things right for you? You also stated you had Cobra seats on order but they kept stringing you along. Obviously you weren't happy with them either.

Both Recaro and Myself (On-Track Performance) tried to make things right and when we spoke last you appeared to be happy. If you went away unhappy without me knowing there isn't much I can do about that.

This is NOT a personal attack on Larry and there is nothing to gain by drawing this out on the internet. If you are truly still unhappy please feel free to call me and we can discuss this. I will also be at the SCMC CMP event this spring and would be more than happy to talk to you there in person if you do not feel like calling me on the phone.

Jack, Where did you get the rear seat delete materials. Looks very nice.
You an get the carpet form Carolina Mustang in Cary, NC. Their number is 919-467-2900 you want ext.2 for the performace section. I got mine from them for about $45 had a little left. These guys have been in business for about 30 years and only do Mustang. They do not have a web site. they do have show room with lots of goodies, itr fun to be able to touch the stuff instead of just looking at pictures. I also got my roll bar from them.

If your are handy with woodworking tools you can do your own seat delete out of plywood. I used 3/4" for the strenght, but you could use 1/2" if you wanted to save some weight.
