View Full Version : Let's see how true the rumor is.....

It's about time to put a long-time rumor to rest here. All of my friends are convinced that anyone that owns a Cobra is bound to a lifetime of speeding tickets. However, I don't honestly think that's true...at all! How many tickets have you all gotten IN the Cobra, not other family vehicles?! I've only had mine for a little more then 1/2 a year, and i've yet to have a run-in with the PO-lice.

Step up to the plate fellas....i'm curious!:bounce:

P.S. - yea, I know I misspelled Cobra in the poll...but it can't be edited! This must be a cardinal SIN!

ha! I am going on one year as a Cobra owner. Last Sat., on the way to go race karts with the club, I had a run in with a NC State Trooper. I was doing 72 in a 70 zone, he was doing 70. I passed him, he did not like that, so he pulled me over, and fussed at me for passing him, gave me a warning, for speeding? The jackass!

Two years ago I got one in the 99 Cobra... 94 in a 70 mph zone. I was slowing down! Honestly, I wasn't trying to race or nothing like that, I was just trying to see how fast this 18 wheeler was going and he was doing triple digits. Unfortunately, I got the ticket. I did get it reduced to 79 in a 70 and will have all of my points back on March 1, 2005. :clapping:

That was the first ticket I got in over 12 years so I was pretty mad at myself about it. Then this year I got one in the big rig (18 wheeler). They set up a "temporary" portable speed limit sign for 45 mph on the interstate. (That's right 45 speed limit in a 70 mph zone) I get those points back on March 13, 2006. I will have just one point off if I go to March 13, 2005. I called my insurance rep and he said not to sweat it as it won't make my insurance go up. I checked the rate since the tickets and sure enough, it was actaully less then it was the last year.

I can't wait until I reach 25 to watch the ole insurance rate take a plunge, cause right now...frankly...i'm basically being legally raped!

I got my car in October of 2004 and I've had 2 since then!

60 in a 45
70 in a 35

State Troopers never let you off!:D
Tickets in the Cobra only 2 in less than 2 months apart, aparently I didn't learn my lesson, but the pedal is so easy to push and once the boost kicks in it's over!
Total tickets with all my vehicles is around 8 speeding and 1 seatbelt!:doubt:

None in the Cobra, but I had one in my 4 cyl. mustang, and another in my 6 cyl. :( so I take it easy with my speed

Oh yea, there was that one reckless in my 89 but I got out of that one in court, does that count? ;)

What! You mean I'm going to start getting tickets if I get this thing? No one told me that. That does it.

I've never had a speeding ticket. I don't know why. I do 150 on the 'busa. It's great fun watching the hands on your wristwatch start going backwards. Sometimes I arrive back home from a ride shortly before I start out.

So far I have been lucky (and I mean lucky). I was doing 80mph in a 35mph zone and there was a local sitting there timming everybody. I hit the brakes pretty hard too. It must have been the color that saved me (black 01) because I was not seen at that time. I usually spot the speed checkers before I get into trouble (pulse it helps to know where they sit ahead of time). The other close call was in the Silver 04, I slowed down a bit then I saw the police car turn on his lights and pull out. Turns out he clocked a ricer going over the speed limit while trying to catch up to me and pulled him over :D. I have seen that happen many times too. :rotf: They don't put those funny white lines across the road for nothing. The last close call occured while making a left turn and I let the rear slip a bit. There was this cop standing along the side of the road with a portable radar gun, what the....? I was only doing 25 in a 35mph, haha! For now I still have a clean record. It has been close to 18 years since I got a speeding ticket and that was not in a mustang either (one reason I avoid buying red cars, I always got pulled over in it. The funny part, it was slow Escort GT).

Man... I guess I'm the poster child for law breaking around here :P

I had two speeding tickets within 6 months of each other when I was 18 and in college. I got a lawyer and got mostly out of them... I had one point on my liscense for three years, but I can't remember what the exact infraction was.

I went for nearly nine years before getting another ticket... owning five Mustangs in the process. I got stopped two + years ago when I was out in the SVO with my girlfriend... on a scenic drive breaking the new clutch in I had just installed. That one was 62 in a 45. Nice LEO for a trooper... got it dropped due to improper equipment.

And that was the only blip on the radar until I got the new 03 Cobra... in the other "Arrest Me Red" color. I've recieved these within the first year of ownership:

June 2004: Malfunctioning muffler ticket (cop said he heard me long before he saw me). After being "talked down" to for five minutes I asked him "if he'd like to hear it at more than 1/4 throttle in first gear." No plea on this one... pay the fine and move on.

September 2004: Willful Speed Competition. The officer swore I was racing some asian fellows in a turbo Civic hatch. Honda leaves the stoplight blazing tires... I left the line as normal and him giving it all it was worth he was barely 1/2 car in front of me. To him that was "racing" but oddly enough I didn't get speeding thrown in the mix. Reduced to unsafe movement.

December 2004: Speeding twice... both in the same weekend. First one was 57 in a 45, second was 64 in a 50. First officer was nice... I thought he'd let me go. My lawyer suggested I change the vanity plate on the Cobra and get rid of NOFIVEOH as he thought it was attracting too much attention. I wisely did as he said... both tickets dropped to inproper equipment :)

January 2005: Two weekends ago I got pulled by a Full Grown Bear in town. I left a stoplight beside some punk kid in a ricer revving at me... I rolled into the throttle a little too much in first and it broke the tires loose. I get pulled over... very nice officer as I was to him. I told him the truth... find out he used to live two minutes down the road from me. He cut me loose and I counted my blessings.

One of my New Year's resolutions was to quit attracting too much attention in the Cobra. Got off to a good start I guess :rotf:

I got one 3 1/2 years ago in a 96 mystic cobra. 78 in a 65. I thought that was BS. I've been stopped in my 97 cobra by a camaro SS police car. That ended with me popping the hood and showing it off  . I haven't even been stopped in my '03 cobra. I had my problems in my fox body days when I was 16. I got pulled over twice the first day I had it, and got picked up for street racing on my 17th birthday in a 90 GT, which was my first ticket. I got my final ticket 3 and 1/2 years ago, and nothing since.

Wondering what colors are the winners of the most tickets. My guess would be red. Of course the police are color blind when issuing tickets (as they should be).

None in the Cobra (knock on wood) ... though I have only owned it for less then 30 days. :D

The Pontiac ... 3 ... one valid speeding, one a dick campus cop looking for drunks, which I hadn't even drank that night, and one was my car decided to kiss a bumper of another car.

I have an operation set to remove the lead from my foot, so hopefully that will help. Then I was going to put glue on my tires, because they seem to not stick to the road ... :rotf: LOL

I got my 01 april 19 of 04. I have not been pulled over yet. Previous to that my days in an svo yielded 7 parking tickets and no speeding or moving violations. I also had an average of being pulled over once a week in Prince William County Va. but no ticket. I am concerned that I have not gotten caught yet, I don't push my luck much, but there are times.

I see that this is right up my ally. Why? I am a Full Grown Bear and have been for fifteen years. I have owned a 2001 (Red) Cobra and currently own a 2004 (RED) Cobra and numerous fast lane cars. If you are not doing anything wrong then you are not going to bring attention to yourself and get stopped. Have your business together! It's that simple. The color red is just talk, it doesn't matter what color car you are driving- If you break the law, in most cases you will have to take care of the it. Unless that you have a life or death situation.

lets see here.

00 gt (sold) got 2 tickets in the same week, one day apart, both for speeding. back in 2001

99 Cobra (sold) zero tickets

03 Cobra got pulled over for speeding after leaving drag strip, after bs'ing with officer cause I had just applied to work at that station, he gave me a seat belt ticket even though I was wearing my seat belt, said I would rather have a $25 dollar no points ticket instead of a $250 and 4 point ticket.

also got a parking ticket when the metter ran out.

but I am sure it sonly a matter of time with as much driving as I do in the cobra, but i hope not.

http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n59/KPSVO/IMG_440.jpgMy last ticket was several years ago and was in my 93 Cobra clone. Fresh off the trailer back from paint and 2 miles from the house no less. I pulled out onto the main street and blistered second gear for about 40 feet. I got down to the next light and saw the Sheriffs come up behind the car behind me. I tried to be cool and made my turn but he hit the lights ( freaked the other guy out ) then passed him to pull me over. The car had no interior, only the roll bar and rear battery, and I could still smell burnt rubber. I figured he had seen the whole thing so I just said laughingly "oh well, you got me". He said "excuse me sir?" and I said "I just got the car back from being painted and I guess I got a little too happy too fast". He took my license and insurance and went back to his car. When he came back he said "well Mr. ***** I didn't actually see you but I did hear you. Since you were honest with me I'm only writing you up for exhibition of speed / too fast for conditions. There will be no points on your license and just a $75 fine". He also reminded me that the fine for leaving black marks is $5 / foot and he didn't feel like going back to step them off. Haven't had any tickets since then...

Got my first speeding ticket 3 weeks ago (41 mph in a 25 mph)after driving the car for.....8 years!!!! Well...I did get an "exceeding the safe speed" ticket in high school...BS...I didn't spin the tires or break the speed limit. In the officer's words, I "got up to speed too quickly."

Anyway, I am glad I was driving my Cobra 3 weeks ago, because I usually roll through the same area around 50!!!

My only one was for having smoked plate covers. It seems you need to be able to see your plate in TX! I never had a problem in NY or FL, but got hammered with a $270 fine here. I still had NY plates, so I think that's why they crushed me on the fine.
