Hi. Lisa. Please say there is one spot left for us. We attended in September and want to attend again. I understand that you have been having a problem with your email - we sent an email and left you a phone message today. Please let us know ASAP if we made the list so we can make hotel reservations.

Also, what was the hotel that everyone stayed at in the fall? We were thinking about staying there.

Well it's good to see that everyone got on the list, considering Lisa's computer was having an operator error :rotf: Oh I mean Lisa's e-mail problem ;)

First spring auto fair I'll miss in a while, hope evryone has a great time. Is it to early to sign up for the fall event, maybe I'll be able to stay stateside long enough to attend.

See all of you soon, only about 2 months left.

Hey everybody, not sure if ya'll have found a hotel yet or not- most of you probably have but, for those procrastinators like me...I found that at Days Inn off exit 55 they had a few rooms left and it's not a 3 night minimum like at alot of the other Hotels and the rate was $99:thumbsup: which is much better than the $169-3 night minimum hotels:eek: !! The phone # is 704-786-9121. Good Luck!!;)

Tony,

I have tried contacting Lisa about my GT and have received no response. I was wondering if it would be worth bringing it to Charlotte, just in case we had some no shows. We are stil listed for both cars on the updated list...not sure what to do? Thanks, Vickie& Randell McLendonwe should be able to let you know whether or not to bring it closer to the actual date- right now we have lots of members that want to bring their cobras  There is no single registration, clubs only, unless it is for sale in the car corral. (and that is a charge to the autofair- dont' know how much)

What Lisa said about the GT and the same applies to the Saleen. I think next year we are going to have to increase our numbers to 45 or 50 if we get this kind of turnout. Most all the time members cannot make it for one reason or another and we will not know until the week of autofair if we can add the other cars in there. It's not so much the car but as we want as many members there as possible and opening up two more spaces allows a couple of other members to attend. I'm sure you understand? :) We'll know for sure the week of the fair. I've updated Lisa's list for you all, taking Greg out...

My girlfriend surprised me and bought a 2 nite package(pretty cool!) at the Marriott in Charlotte for the FoodLion Event. I know it's late but can I at least hook up and cruise with you guys in the Cobra train to Lowes? I plan on coming up Friday afternoon. Let me know.

You can shoot me an e-mail at dmspearman@nuvox.com and let me know where everyone will be on Friday nite?

Mike you are number 41 which means you will most likely get in to the event because someone will cancel, believe me. Just count on being there and we will get you in to the event even if they don't. Jeff you are number 42 and we will get you in there, too.

We have about 10 cars coming in from out of town and those members are staying in different places. I do not know what the out of town members will be doing on Friday night as most of us are locals and have to work on Friday. I know I have to work till at least 7:00 p.m.

The event consists of a cruise from Mickey D's to the speedway Saturday morning. We then line up on pit road and display our cars during the day. We have a small informal show while the fair is going on. There is no entry fee for the show as the speedway provides the trophies for the club. A local GM club will be judging the cars to make it fair for all members. We then will give out awards at the end of the day.

We should have our 2005 event shirts available for purchase at this event. During the day, you are free to check out the fair (swap meet) and other cars from over 50 car clubs at the show. You can bring your own lunch or pay the high prices the speedway charges for a meal. Afterwards, we all go out to Carlo's to relax and have an Italian dinner together.

Show categories will be posted here in this thread .... :)

Lisa,

Actually, Tim said if we parked beside him he would clean mine and mycobra777's along with his cobra once we got there. We just figured we would make it a little easier on him by not making him walk so far. Wonder if he'll go get our food and drinks too?;)

We sent out a list that said in what order people were to park. That of course has changed with people canceling and others taking their spot. Please have an idea which 'class' your car is in so that registration will go smoothly.

Everyone please remember that the main reason we go to Autofair is to socialize with other club members, promote the SCMC, and above all, to have fun!! :bounce:  :bounce:

Hours for Sunday are till 4:00 p.m. Everyone usually leaves after the "Best of Show" for the SCMC goes up for it's recognition by Humpy Wheeler.

Yes, 40 plus Cobras going down Hwy 29 is definitely an attention getter. :)

Just got home a little while ago, man am I burnt, didn't think the sun was going cook us that good. Real good show overall in my opinion, had a good time at Carlo's Saturday night also.

This was for sure one time that I was really glad that I wasn't a judge and having to pick out 1 car that I thought was better. I ended up winning the award for our class, but honestly felt there were 2 other cars that were just as good as mine, if not better. I also thought the other classes were just as tight. One walk down the row of cobras was all it took to know that it was going to be tough pick for the judges.

I also got an award for an honest mistake from a year ago at the Parkway Ford show. At the end of the day I probably smiled about that one most because it meant enough to someone else to say I made a mistake and we want to make it right. I never once thought that it was owed to me and really hadn't given it a second thought, other than I was going to work even harder on my car for that show this year. I guess when you take great people and put them together to make a great club it probably it isn't all that surprising that they wanted to do this. Thanks again guys, it really wasn't necessary, but very nice indeed.

Now on to other news.... I didn't say this in my private message yesterday because I didn't want to seem like I was fussing too much. But we have to do better for Sunday's attendance. We had 36 cars on Saturday and we have 40 spots allotted. This was due to people "saying" they are coming and then not showing up or even calling us to let us know they cannot make it.

On Sunday, we had 19 cars there and that's really unacceptable. If we tell the speedway we need 40 spots then we have to have at least 35 there so it looks like we have a full house.

Solutions to this problem could be as follows:

1. Forget Autofair and not go at all
2. Go only for one day, Saturday
3. Fix the problem by having some people go on Sunday and not go on Saturday
4. Judge on Saturday, give awards on Sunday
5. Charge $10.00 for those that reserve that will be refundable if you show up, if not, the club keeps your money.

We have to fix this problem or else we won't be getting pit road anymore and having pit road is good for a membership drive. We got 6 new members last weekend. If we do not get pit road anymore, then please don't tell me your gripes. You have the people that didn't show to blame, not the ones that did.

I will be surprised if we get that spot in the Fall. SCMC has always been highly regarded at Lowe's Motor Speedway, last weekend they made some comments about where we all were? Two days is tough for me but my car was there for two days. (Mike Tolbert drove it up there on Sunday)

A BIG thanks to Robbie and Patti for bringing two Cobras to the event! PLease keep this in mind for the Fall event. :)

I agree. Sundays attendence was poor. There were people who attended Sat, that were supposed to be there on Sunday, but never showed. It is hard to push the club on Sunday, when there are only a small handful of cars there. This was the same thing at the last fall Autofair.

I don't remember how many tickets I ended up throwing away, but it was entirely too many.

Hey everybody,
The comment was made to Ronnie and I going up in Victory Lane Sunday afternoon by one of the Officials at the entrance gate. He said " Hey what happened to all your buddies today- they kinda left ya hangin huh?".:( For me it was very embarrassing for them to notice and actually make a comment like that. I too was disappointed in the Sunday turnout. Maybe doing the awards on Sunday would be helpful....????:dunno: I know things come up and I understand everybody can't be there two days but from almost 40 to less than 20???

My take, if you can't make both days, that's fine. If you say you will be there for a certain day, then you better show up. We had some on saturday that never showed up, so those on the waiting list missed out. Fair is fair people. The only way for this club to prosper is by showing up in numbers. If you want to have this club around for a long time, then own up to your word.

Andrew,

We knew you were coming on Saturday and not Sunday. That wasn't the problem...the problem was other members saw the event full so didn't bother to bring their cars in on both Saturday and Sunday. I know of at least three people that could have brought their cars in on Saturday..Jonathon Wilburn, Linda Rogers, and Jason Howard but did not because they saw a full list of people on the forums. (That would have given us 39 out of 40, pretty good turn out if you ask me) Then Sunday rolls along and half the group doesn't show.

We either want to do this or we don't but we are not going to embarrass ourselves with the poor desolate turnout on Sunday like we had. Although, I personally wasn't there, my 94 Coupe was and I knew that I'd have at least one of my cars there on Sunday.

We can beat this thing to death but the bottom line is we need to have a Sunday list and a Saturday list so we can better organize our groupings and so other members can attend at least one of the days. Everyone says they want events and when we have them, they don't bother to come or show up when they are supposed to or committed to. If you sign up for an event then it ought to be a matter of life or death as to why you didn't hold to your committment.

The speedway has always treated us like royalty, prime spot, gave us extra passes when we asked for them and this is how we treated their generosity.....with a slap in the face on Sunday under perfect weather conditions no less. I see a Sunday voting coming up with pressure to get it done by noon if we can at least have 90% turnout on that day.

We're not throwing stones, we just don't want a repeat of the Spring event.

Thanks for reading....

I was there on both days but had to leave early on Sunday. In the future events, I probably will just not show Sunday and commit to Saturday alone. I think probably a Saturday and Sunday list would be a good idea, some folks just can't make it on both days. Though, if they couldn't I agree that should have said they couldn't.

I didn't make either day but I've been to many Autofairs with the club and I must say Sunday seems to be a real problem. I suggest that we start asking club members for a $25.00 a day "registration" fee. This fee will be refunded the day of the show IF you are there. If you don't show you forfeit the money. I really would hate for it to come to this but I feel it would solve the problem with people saying they will be there and then don't show. To many people take it for granted that the Autofair is free so they don't have to be committed to showing up. JMHO! :D

I think the $25 fee would help insure folks would show up, but, IMO I don't think the $25 fee would increase the attendance on Sunday. I do think that it would give those last 3-4 folks reason to go ahead and show up Saturday if they said they were. Can the club just show for one day???

The $25.00 isn't meant to increase Sunday's attendance but to give the club an ACCURATE number of people attending each day. I think the judging should be held on Saturday but the announcement of who won should not be made until Sunday at the track. AND if you aren't signed up for BOTH days your car should be excluded from the judging. I think if someone ponies up the $50 for both days they are more likely to show for both days! Once again JMHO! :D

I think that showing on Saturday and the announcement of who won on Sunday sounds cool as long as everyone is told when all judging is over so they can take a break to check out the rest of the Auto Fair. As far as $25 per day, I think the people that say they are coming will show up but you will have less people saying they are coming. $50 plus hotel room and gas to get there starts to add up. I would more than likely still come but some may not be as able to. Just my thoughts, I will go with whatever Tony decides to do.

I still think you would have the same problem whether you handed out awards on Sunday or handed them out the same day they were judged. Maybe the best starting place would be to ask the ones that were not there on Sunday and never told anyone why they weren't. Some couldn't make it on Sunday and stated that PREVIOUS to the weekend of the show.( and those folks you can't fault, we knew they weren't going to be there Sunday) In that case I agree with whoever posted about making a Saturday list and a Sunday list. Maybe going for 2 days is to much for some, maybe they want to only go for one. Maybe their was something at the show that made them not want to come back on Sunday. Maybe they didn't realize that committing to Saturday meant you had/needed to be there Sunday and that their were other people who could come in their place Sunday. Maybe they couldn't afford to fork out for another night at the motel. :dunno: If nothing else, for those SCMC members that wanted to come on Sunday just to check out the show they would at least have a great parking spot without pulling any money out of their pocket. Just some random thoughts to consider I guess. The ones that I feel bad for are the ones that wanted to come on Sunday and were told they couldn't.

nckissfan
04-18-2005, 03:50 PM
the problem is not with the ones who could not make it for both days, but rather with the ones who stated that they would be there, and never showed up. As far as the $25 thing. It is not meant to charge the person to show, it is more of a security deposit. I like the idea. If someone has money down, that they know they will get back, then I am sure they will make it to the show. This is more of a deterent. It needs to be done.

@9Cobra9, we knew you weren't coming on Sunday, and that is fine, as you told us prior to coming down Sat.

I would vote for a one day event. 2 days at autofair is too much IMHO.

RF Cobra
04-18-2005, 08:20 PM
If it is kept a 2 day event how about this:

One signup list for Saturday and one signup list for Sunday. Refundable $20.00 deposit per day (If you sign up for both days you pay a $40.00 deposit). If you show up then Saturday's money is refunded Sat am and Sunday's deposit Sun am. Of course you could always just spend it on the 50/50. :) Something would have to be worked out regarding refunds for cancellations, but there should probably be no refunds for cancellations after 5 pm on Wed. the week of the Autofair. (If you find your own replacement after that time you could work something out with them and the deposit money.)

I don't think giving out the awards on Sunday is going to have any impact. There are those of us that have other commitments on Sunday and while we can make other arrangements I prefer not to do so except in cases of vacation or out of town SCMC events that we are attending.

There will probably still be no shows on a Saturday only event unless you require a deposit. Plus, how bad of a spot would the club end up with if it only participated 1 day?

First off...$25.00 per day is too much $$. The point about the poor turn out for the speedway is that they could have moved another club in there next to us to fill pit road but we slated 40 spots. Let's see if we can get maybe 40 passes on Saturday and 20 on Sunday so they can move another club in there next to us if we are located in a prime spot. Personally, one day is enough for me but there are others who like to go two days or some people that work on Saturday and want to go on Sunday. That way we still have representation and the speedway can move an outside club in with us and that's only if they will even give us a good spot next time. I'm sure they are not very happy right now with the turnout. I do thank those that came on Sunday and represented the club.

Trying to do the "deposit" and refunds also increases the administrative side of things though and could cause more trouble than it is worth.

Another no fee option that is simpler: If you sign up and don't show and did not give timely notification (or you do not have a really good reason for not showing up) then the next time around you don't get to sign up. The event after that they would get another chance to attend. Habitual no call/no shows could result in a permanent ban of that person from signing up.

I hate to throw an option like that out but this is supposed to be for fun and an enjoyable hobby. It is hard for the event organizers to have fun when they are stuck with having to answer questions of "Where is everybody?" and it puts a dark cloud over the group that does show up making it harder to enjoy the day. Comments that have been made to me by several people (and not just regarding AutoFair) are that these disappointing turnouts are becoming a real discouragement and taking the fun out of being in the club.

If you have to cancel, own up to it and take responsibility and let the person in charge of the event know so they are not wasting their time waiting around and wondering where you are. Also, let them know ASAP so they can let someone else take your place at events with limited space. For goodness sake, if you have no intention of going, don't sign up in the first place.

Remember this is supposed to be fun! :hatparty: :jk:
If it isn't fun then we may as well go to work instead.

Tony, if you think I went overboard just tell me be quiet and crawl back in my corner!

I like the two day event. Saturday is usually spent preparing for the judging, cleaning the car, with little time for socializing and seeing the sights at the show. Sunday is a no pressure, kick back and enjoy the beautiful cars in all the car clubs. Also a good day for visiting the vendor booths.

My vote is to keep both days, but find a way for the one-day crowd to register and show up when they say they will. Now that the problem is public, everyone should be more aware what the real problem is, lack of follow through when commitments are made.

:D
