Hey folks you can make it an autocross weekend April 16 & 17 if you want. Come run with the SVT Cobra Mustang Club on Saturday at 411 and then with the Porshe Club at the old Walmart in Rockwood on Sunday.

http://www.pca.org/smt/smt_coming_events.shtml

I ran the course with them yesterday and it is a fun fast layout. Two days of AX what more could you want in one weekend!!!

What is the word/verdict on rain? I know we hafta PRE-pay, but if it is downpouring rain, I don't wanna stand out in that, let alone run. Can the 35$ be applied to ANOTHER SVT event?

Thanks

what about credit toward a future event rather than a refund. There is no point in me even looking at a course if it rains either.

On a related note, I wonder who the fastest SCMC member is going to be? I also wonder how badly I am going to beat that yellow car with the side exhaust on it.

Well.... I thought about going but then you all would probably say I was reckless at this event like I was told I was at the CMP event. I want to call it aggressiveness but someone thought it was recklessness.

Anyway, if I do go....I'll bring the 04 with my Hoosiers this time so we can see if I can be in the top ten possibly this time. :)

Yeah, I know autofair smautofair but I would like to go at least one day if I can? If the fair fills up too much I may be pushed out and then I'd have to go to TN the next weekend. :D

P.S. It was Pat Madigan the New Englander who came down south and beat you all. I didn't compete remember, I was doing the timing?

I've autoXed and run SOLO Ied there since it opened back in the '80's.
(hold Club Formula Ford record on original course http://www.rivergate5speed.com/scca/soloi/s1-talladega-records.htm see old track records). It's all good. Just remember the wall along the front straight isn't real thick, but will put a hurt on your car if you hit it.

Last year someone (Antivnm?) actually ran his SUV on one of the runs, sometimes drivers take passengers, drive each others cars, etc.

You'll have a great time, It's all actually pretty laid-back and non-official. Don't worry, you won't finish in the last position...

Good deal!

Things to remember:

Bring a helmet, if you don't have one there are "loaner" helmets available... but they're kinda crusty.

I'd say with your stock Cobra these won't be a problem, but make sure the battery is secure, seatbelts work, decent tread on tires, etc.

Also make sure that there is nothing in the trunk or passenger compartment that is loose and could fly around, radar detectors, audio amps/speakers, dead bodies, etc.

If you have a little extra time, it would be good to change the brake fluid and check your pads... you definately want them in top shape.

See you at the track!

Have Mystichrome will travel!

I'll have my hoosiers with me this time. I'm going to brown bag them and put them in the back. Don't want to mess up the upholstery too bad. :) I'll need to borrow someone's jack when I get there, if someone has a loaner?

I agree with 03 ragtop....plenty of room to move up. I want to know why you didn't post my time Brett? Everyone will see how close I really came to having a top ten spot. As a matter of fact, I was in the top ten till the last session. Anyway, maybe the tires will help me some? Lord knows it couldn't be my reckless driving... :rotf:

Sam,

I believe Tony hathaway is on the club's mailing list.

Okay, we are going to order "Top Ten" Awards for this event. That means the top ten will get a "small" paperweight award with a picture on it, place won, and the event date & place. Now comes the hard part, I need to put a photo in there with the award. What do you think of these choices?

What we will do is the winner, first place for these awards, will have their car on the next set of awards and it will be up to you to get in the top ten the next time. It will be a quality photo as this is just for fun for the first time as the "in the grass" shots were irresistable. Also, winners must be full bodied cars, sorry no go-karts or anything related like that. Full bodied cars, period. Just run what you brung!

Let the games begin.... :bounce:

Rick,

There is a guy in Morganton, NC that will be attending the 411 autocross next week. His name is Pete I think? He has a 2001 Zinc Yellow Cobra Convertible and will be joining the club this week. I told him to go ahead and send his reg $$ for the AX here along with his dues. If you would, please add him to the list.

Thanks,

Tony....you have 4.10's in that white GT? What other mods?Yea, I run the 4.10's and some misc. crap all welded up/on the car. There's really not much "performance" crap done, just stuff to keep the car from folding in half.

Any chance we might see some changes/surprises this time around? I'd kinda like to run the OLD OLD PCA course. It's pretty cool, may even cause less DNF's. I can think of two ways of doing it. The OLD OLD way loses the 45* "turn" in the infield X, my tweaked version would re-use the 45* turn at the X, but might extend the time on course by about 10 or so seconds.

Even if the car is done by the weekend, I don't plan to do Nashville now. I'm not fully convinced that I want to try out a bunch of new mission critical parts at 411 either. Time will tell. Just a little? :spoke: :doubt:It's been done before, but never on my fastest runs. Upsets the car too much. Kinda like having two 4 barrel carbs. Your either in one or in BOTH. :)

I've got about 6 or so lbs left in the bottle as of right now. May use a lil' on Friday/Friday night so if I do have any left it'd only be for a about one or two straights on one or two runs.

Jason, Thanks alot, both dad and I had an absolute blast this weekend. Heck I already have my list of mods that, hopefully I will have done before the next 411. And I just called my father, who lives in cleveland, and as soon as he gone home, both him and my mother went to 4 different ford dealership looking for a left over 04 ragtop, or a new 05 gt convert.

I did go on the evolution driving school page yesterday, and there is no contact info for the columbus date. There is a guys name, but no number or e-mail address. So i have been in contact with the guy that is hosting the PA one. So, hopefully I will get one of those under my belt in the next few months.

Thanks again to everybody that help put on the event. It was a blast, and ran flawlessly, one of the best times of my life, and hope to have many more in the near future. Thanks again to everybody.

Howdy, I don't post here much (because I don't own a mustang!), but I wanted to set the record straight for Saturday's event... Sorrentino should have gotten 12th instead of me... a couple of my times got mixed up with Ed Oblow's (in the EVO). My best was a 68.3 instead of a 68.1, which puts me in 13th.

I had a blast, by the way... I'll definitely be signing up for the next one! :D

Sorry to hear that 411 is going to be history. If you're interested in a similiar venue, Lanier Speedway in Braselton, GA is an option. 3/8 paved oval in great shape. Our local Impala club rents in once a year for hot laps. The General Manager, Stan, is in the club and has talked about hosting autocross events. Let me know if there is any interest to research further.

Also, count me in for Talladega. 1.35 mile road course closer to home. I'm all over it!

Only thing about Lanier is they have concrete walls on both sides of the track. The penalty for missing a gate could be kinda severe. I'm up for Alabama not much further than 411 for me.

Little Talladega is a road course, not an autocross. That means the insurance will be more and we will have to have an ambulance on hand. There are no walls around the track and we may look into a couple of corner workers. Cost will be $100.00 per person. Spaces will be limited because we want track time! :)

$100 sounds very reasonable for a road course. Road Atlanta track days are $275 and $375 for approximately 2 hrs/3hrs track time respectively.

Tony,

...We are looking into renting out Little Talladega Grand Prix. Who would be interested in going this year if we reserve a Fall date?
