I think my clutch is going out from drag racing!!! :( What clutch should I get and should I get the work done at a performance shop or a regular mechanic shop?

Thanks in advance for any help! ;)

Spec II clutch is WIN!!! Or an '03-04 Cobra clutch. You can try to hunt around for a mechanic to do it...if you find someone decent let us know. Hope this helps. :thumbsup:

About how much does either one of those run? I don't want to get screwed because I am a chick calling and getting a price! BTDT! :D Should I shop ebay or a performance shop and order it?

Spec stage 1 are good for 420 foot lbs torque - $229
Spec stage 2 is good for 530 torque - $339
Spec stage 3 is good for 695 torque - $359
Got this info from Spec web site: http://www.specclutch.com/specMain.html

Slaters sells & keeps in stock Spec clutches. Spec usually has a booth at Fun Ford weekends, I'm gonna look there for me a clutch for my car to see if I can get it cheaper, starting to smell. He quoted me $300 for the Spec stage 2 for my car. Also if you get a spec stage 2 or higher, they recomend getting a Billet flywheel, not necessary. Flywheel will run $200-250.
A RAM clutch for you 01 Cobra would run $390 from 5.0 Resto here: http://www.50resto.com/product1.cfm?SID=1&Product_ID=537&Category_ID=1016
I don't see a King Cobra clutch for you 01 Kim.
You will need to get the flywheel resurfaced if you don't get a new flywheel.

I would recomend the Spec stage 1 for your power. If you are gonna race a lot, then I would recomend a stage 2. A regular shop could replace it, but might know about performace clutches, just replacement clutches. Slaters & Houston Performance would be a better choice in my opinion.
Check PM's.

Then you would probly need the Spec stage 2 or possible 3 if your gonna race a lot along with a billet flywheel.
No Problem. Since I'm looking into clutches also, I had the pages book marked.

A spec stage 3 does not slip well at all, 7 you need a little slip when driving on the street, makes for a smoother start. A stage 3 would probly chatter on slow take offs while on the street. Stage 3's are more of a on off switch.

Thanks guys for all the info!!! It looks like I will get the Spec Stage II at FFW!! Who knows what else I might find there! ;)

From my PERSONAL experience with SPEC clutches I wouldn't hit a dead dog in the backside with one! I had a SPEC stage III on my Cobra. IT SUCKED, not only was there a ton of chatter but it didn't last. If I were you I would look for something (anything) else! JMHO! :D

I like the CenterForce line up.... at this point in time...
Many HIGH HP and TORQUE Terminators have had good results from CF clutch and pressure plates...

Pedal effort and general driveability are said to be quite good...(mine's still stock... hope to keep it that way for a while :p )

The Spec stage three does have the reputaion of being like an on off switch :( not what you want for the street.

Or an '03-04 Cobra clutch.

Does an 03-04 Cobra clutch bolt up to a 01 Cobra????
That might give good holding power with a soft pedal effort with good streetablity. Anyone know?

They are both 11"... I believe the splines are the same also..

The 03/04s are a different part #s... though quite a bit more clamping force...
CLUTCH-------------> 3R3Z7550AARM $150.31 list
PRESSURE PLATE---> 3R3Z7563AARM $138.16 list
Throwout BRG-------> F7ZZ7548AA $36.23 list

Ford racing has a kit that has the 03/04 aluminum flywheel(less rotational weight :thumbsup: ) and a clutch & pressure plate that is 10% increased in capacity over99/01 Cobras.... part #M-7060-D46..

If the flywheel has been hurt bad(the 2000 GT we did today certainly was) It may need a new flywheel...

Sometimes they can be turned... and sometimes the grooves or heat cracks are too deep... :(

I know it isn't completly gone, it sometimes goes into gear rough and others it is fine. A couple time at the track I couldn't get it into 2nd or 3rd!Kimmy

Not so sure if is the clutch Kim. Could possible be the syncros, or shift forks. Didn't Ford have a TSB on the 01 trannies? Would hate to see you put a clutch in & that not be it.

Technical Service Bulletin

I have an '01 Cobra clutch kit I got at Lone Star Ford for about $300. I'll upgrade to a '03-04 Clutch kit next time I need one. I used to think my clutch was going out, but it's been nice lately. Damn...getting paid on Friday from BOTH jobs and won't make it out to FFW Swap meet to do some spending. :(

It is not my clutch or syncros....it looks like it is the shaft of the clutch pedal or the clutch cable it's self...will know more when the guy gets it broke down and can see what it is....had to push the clutch all the way to the floor to engage the clutch to get it into gear..there is too much play in the clutch pedal also... :mad:

As a heads up on the clutch program....an 03-04 Cobra clutch will be a 10 spline T56 disc and the 01's will either be a disc for a Tremec 3650 or a T45 depending on the build date of the car....and the 01 disc should be a 26 spline.
