last I saw the senate removed the "Reduction in License Plates" section from that bill.

Would love for it to happen though.

after you told me that, someone told me that was only for Classics??? Is it for ALL cars, all years?
:banana:TNT:banana:
Can i finally take my plate off my dash, to not take the chance of decapitating my passenger???

I'm hoping it's true as well, but either way there will not be a front tag on my car. I guess I will just have to pay the fines if I get written up for it.

ARTICLE 9. REDUCTION IN NUMBER OF LICENSE PLATES ISSUED

(b) Notwithstanding anything in this code to the contrary,
including Section 502.404(a), a person is entitled to operate on a

Not to rain on anyone's parade, but I'm pretty sure that wording was taken out of HB 3540 before it got out of the Senate Committee. I'm not an expert, but I'd hate to see anyone get burned on this.

In other words, two plates is still going to be the law. Check out this link over at Corvette Forum:

Mike, in the link you posted, there still seems to be confusion as to wether its dead, stalled, or slated.

Yeah, lots of confusion but if you go through all 3 pages they seem to agree that it was taken out of the Senate version, the House refused to concur with the Senate changes, it went to committee then the bill died there.

Like I said, I'm no expert. I'd love to see a "no front license plate" law pass.

Okay, this is from the bill not another forum this looks like it was voted on and passed, if you check the whole bill some sections are crosssed out bbut not this one. Note: the date is November 1, 2005 But I don't know of Rick Perry has signed it into law or not. oh well still confused :(

KEEP YOUR FRONT PLATES, BILL DID NOT MAKE IT. Seeing a lot of threads all over the net from people who do not understand the way the bills work in the Legislature and think cause it says so it must be true. Hopefully more people know how it works and that it didn't go through.

The copy/paste above is of the House Committee Report (the 2nd version of it).
You need to look at the Senate Committee Report and you will see "Section 9" is something else in it. It was removed all together and still the bill didn't make it through the Senate in time. (so even if HB3540 had passed, the Lic. Plates section was removed)

Looks like everyone has pretty much got the message here about needing your front license plate. The only vehicles that are NOT required to have a front license plate are the (Metal Dealer Plates). They are exempt. Everyone else MUST have a front license plate including (sports cars). I have a front license plate on my Cobra. Why? Just because I wear a badge, I am not exempt from the law, its that simple. Oh, by the way I am a Texas State Trooper. Enjoy your rides as I do mine and be safe out there!
