Ford Racing Performance Parts will begin production of the ultimate 2005 Ford Mustang - but it won't be exactly street legal. The 2005 FR500C Mustang Grand Am is meant to tear up the competition on race tracks across the country. See side bar for the FR500's 2005 racing results. >

The FR500C Mustang's will be specially prepared, and production is scheduled to be limited to 25 units. Rather than purchasing the Mustangs through a local dealership, they can only be ordered from the Ford Racing Parts under item number M-FR500-C. Ford Racing's National Sales Manager, Dean Barberio told BlueOvalNews that the FR500C will retail for $125,000.

Ford Racing's Primo Goffi told BlueOvalNews that the FR500C will be powered by the 5.0L DOHC R50 engine, which has a compression ratio of 11:1. According to Goffi, the horsepower ratings will not be advertised due to "homologation sensitivities."

All Mustangs will be painted plain white, and without sripes. According to a source on Team Mustang, most racers want plain white bodied cars because they are easier to modify cosmetically - "they're easy to paint over."

What, no pics??

I thought Multi-matic made this announcement a month or so ago? Guess Ford had to assign a catalog number to make it official ;)

Now, to talk the wife out of $125K, lol.

Multimatic Motorsports has been entrusted by Ford to design and build the new racer, which will compete in the Grand-Am Cup and other major production car street stock series throughout North America.

While the new racecar will be available for purchase by professional and amateur racers alike, Multimatic Motorsports will lead the assault for Ford with a fully factory supported team for 2005.

Multimatic has played a key role for Ford in the development of vehicles for both road and track. Based in Markham, Ontario, Canada, the company is one of Ford Motor Company's top nine global suppliers.
