I'm looking for a set of wheels for my 99 Cobra which will fit over the Brembo calipers I have on the front. The stock wheels would not, so I had to buy Steeda Ultralights 5 years ago to fit. I really don't want to shell out another grand for a set of track wheels. Planning ahead for Gingerman where proper tires make a real difference.

Dave the '98 Cobra wheels will fit but they are 17x8s. They are the only 17x8 rim that will fit the big brake kits. I run the Toyo RA-1s in a 255 on these. I have found sets for as little as $50 apiece that are fine for track wheels.

Maximum Motorsports carries the Konig Villians for $169 apiece. http://www.maximummotorsports.com/konig.asp

I have the 95 Cobra R 17x9 rims on mine with Brembos. Rims are about 150 ea from Diversified Products Marketing.

Does anyone know if the 03/04 Cobra wheels clear Brembos?

I picked up a set of satin wheels with a minor curb rash on one wheel pretty cheap. They still even had two good F1s with 7/32 left on them that I'll sell on ebay as soon as I get them un-mounted.

Yepper, the 03 wheels will clear the Brembo's. The anniversary wheels will also. I have 95 R's over my Brembo's.

When shopping for a set of track wheels I had considered the 10th Anniversary Cobra wheels. For some reason all of the 17X9 Ford Racing wheels have 6.12" backspacing, except the 1995 Cobra R wheels which have a 5.98" backspacing. Since my current wheel/tire combination (275/40 Nitto 555RII's on 17X9 Bullit wheels with 5.9" backspacing) has a slight rub issue on the stock K member at left lock with the steering wheel, I purchased the R58 1995 Cobra R wheels. Another option might be the FR500 wheels in 18X9 with a 5.98 backspacing if you do not mind replacing costly 18" tires on our accelerated wear schedules :D . I believe all the above wheels will clear the Brembo 4-piston calipers.

what are the actual "specs" to look for when researching rims that will fit over the Brembo kit? I was looking at RIM 17x9" on the discount tire web site but I do not know if they will fit...?

Help please.:)

I don't know the actual dimensions/specs to tell you because I think it is more than just rim diameter, width, and backspacing. There's also the curvature of the spokes near the caliper to consider and I don't know if you can measure that.
My advice would be to go with a Ford wheel. There are several good ones out there that work. Many of the aftermarket knock-offs that look just like Ford wheels for a few bucks less are NOT the same dimensions and will give you a slightly different offset, for example.
The 17x9 95 Cobra R wheel (like I have on my brembos), the 00 18x9 R wheel, the anniversary wheel... I would expect most 18x9 or wider wheels to fit, but I don't think you can be sure until you try them on the car/caliper.
Good Luck and post pics of whatever you decide on!

I don't know the actual dimensions/specs

I think MM's web site explains it best
