I hear you change the gear on the speedometer cable.

A couple different ways to correct the speedo. I used a speedcal from
Dallas Mustang. Work great and easy to install. Programmers and chips
can solve the problem too.

I'm told the 98's have to be calibrated manualy. Is that not true?

yeah, it is a plastic (I think) gear that gets installed. They are around $15.

Its the 23 tooth gear, don't know the part # but you won't need it... just get the 23 toother.

You will need to do either the speedo gear or the speedcal. You cannot have the speedo recalibrated by a chip unfortunately in a 96-98 model. I recommend the speed cal. It is more accurate than a speedo gear, and it will not wear out (speedo gear's teeth will wear down over time).

SpeedCal is easy to install. Common hand tools and jack stands, I'll
send you scanned copies of the instructions.

Go to www.dallasmustang.com to buy a SpeedCal unit.

Good Luck.
