01 cobra front brake caliper issue
 

Hi this is my first post. I feel like such a dork. Anyway, my right front brake caliper is making noise, but not like when I use the brakes. It's like there is a spot where the pads must be hitting the rotor just rolling down the road. It makes like a beep and the beep is faster or slower depending on how fast I go. My brakes work great so I was hoping not to need to change them. It seems that the calipers are closed a little too much... there is a slight drag there when you spin the tire with the car on a jack... a faint whisper... and then when it hits the one spot, a squeak.

Any suggestions for fixing this?

First thing I would do is see if the rotor is warped from heat? Take your left wheel off the ground and see if it scrubs, if not put the left rotor on the right hand side to see if that fixes it. If it does, you need a new rotor.

While you have the wheel off, check and see if the low brake pad indicator is scrubbing the rotor. If it is, then you need new pads.

Thirdly, move the wheel around to see if you have bad bearings on your front hubs. That will probably be the most costly.time consuming to fix.

The best way to check the hubs is to jack that corner up and shake the wheel/tire with it still bolted on...better leverage that way.

If you haven't found the culprit, you should pull the pads off and check to see if they are wearing evenly. You should be able to see it just by looking but if you hvae a digital caliper, stick it on there and measure. You might also try swapping the pads from side to side.

The pad indicator Tony is talking about is just a little metal clip. It's there to tell you your pads need to be changed (or you clip needs to be adjusted).

Put the front end up on jack stands and crawl under there and look around. You never know what you'll find under there but it's good to get familiar with your suspension.
