Rear differential cover seal leak
 

What does it take to seal the differential on the back of the IRS on a 04 Cobra? Can you do it with all of the IRS attached or do you have to take it out or drop it?

You have to remove the diff! Disconnect the drive shaft, front brace, & rear brace and then pop the half shafts out with a screwdriver. Having 3 people works great as I did last fall. After pulling remove the cover, drain, & clean out anything you think needs to go. Clean where the sealant was and then use the black Permatex to reseal, but do not refill for 24 hours or you may have leaks. Put the diff back in after resealing & reattaching the cover. It actually is pretty easy if you have some help. Let the car sit overnight and then refill the diff from the rear while it is installed. Mine has not leaked a drop since I did it.

If the leak is minimal, you do not have to take the rear differential appart. I had a minor leak on my diff cover. I fixed it with permatex #25223 gasket "the right stuff". I used it on the outside of the cover and diff housing and the leak was stopped. I did this about three years ago and it is still holding up. It may be a band-aid fix but it worked.

if the product is holding up then dont mess with it.if its buying you time till you have to remove it then that a plus.
