SCMC/Ted Russell Ford's Mustang and Ford Show/ Dragon Run VIII -- October 11-12, 2008

The SCMC invites everyone to come out to our sixth annual Ted Russell Mustang and Ford Show. The date is October 11, 2008 with the Dragon Run on October 12, 2008.

About the event:

Ted Russell Ford has supported the SCMC, TN Chapter, since 2003. This is our sixth show and each year it has grown more and more. This year we will be adding more to the event to make it even more enjoyable.

Additions will include the following items:

1. Complimentary refreshments (hot dogs and drinks)
2. Custom Dash Plaques free to the first 75 preregistered show cars
3. Custom event tee shirt free to the first 75 preregistered show cars
4. Unique "jewelry box" awards, specific to this event
5. An option for other clubs to get their logos on the event tees by simply having 15 club cars preregister for the show.
6. Goodie bags

The show is still the same price as last year, $20.00 per entry with a $5.00 late fee after October 1, 2008.

About the "Dragon Run":

We will be taking a trip on Sunday to the "Dragon" which consists of 318 curves in 11 miles. This section of road is like running an autocross on the highway.

This year we will run the dragon to Deals Gap for a break and any souvenir shopping anyone wants to do. Then we will make the return trip on the dragon, so this year we will do the dragon in both directions. Afterwards we will head back to Townsend, TN and then up 321 N towards our destination where we will have lunch and a miniature golf tournament. There are a variety of stores at this location too, so there is ample opportunity to shop/window shop as well. This location is also better for getting out afterwards to head home for everyone. Those heading back towards Knoxville will have two routes to choose from and they should not get stuck in traffic like last year.

A schedule with the meet time and location as well as the specific details will be given out at the end of the Ted Russell Show.

Please email Allan at RFCobra@SVTCobraClub.com to sign up for the Dragon Run or if you have any questions. We need to know your name, vehicle (year, make, color), how many passengers you will have with you, and if you want to join us for lunch and if you will participate in the miniature golf tournament so we can get an idea of how many are planning to go. We will not post the list of attendees for the Dragon Run.

Remember to bring your two way radios. Cell phone reception is spotty at best and we use the two way to relay important information while driving.

P.S. You must be present to get the dash plaque, event tee, and jewelry box award.

Post Registration Form & Group Dinner

The registration form for the 2008 Ted Russell Ford Show is attached.

The host hotel will be the Hilton Garden Inn. It is right by the hotel that we stayed at last year. Click here for the hotel's website if you want more information about where we are staying.

Hotel Registration:
Registration at the Hilton Garden Inn is now available. When you resister with the hotel either by calling or via the Internet, be sure to give them the group code: SVT in order to get the discounted group rates.

We currently have 20 rooms being held. 10 have one King and the other 10 have 2 Queen beds.

The cutoff date is 9/10/2008. After this it will be based solely on availability so make your reservation early to make sure you get a space!

The rooms are setup for Friday and Saturday night. However, if you are staying Sunday night you will still be able to get the group price for Sunday night as well. If for some reason you have a problem getting the rate for Sunday let me know ASAP.

Hotel Parking:
While there is ample parking for vehicles, there is limited space for trailers (2 max.) without causing parking problems for others.

Trailer parking will be available at Ted Russell Ford both Friday night and Saturday night inside the gated area. Please note that on Sunday the gates will not be unlocked until 1 PM. This should not be a problem if you are going on Dragon Run VII. If you need to get your trailer before then on Sunday you can park in the ungated area of the dealership.

Dinner:
There are several dining choices available right by the hotel. We would like to try to eat as a group on Friday and Saturday nights to provide some extra social time for everyone. You do not have to be staying at the Hilton to participate. If you are interested in doing this please post when you think you will be available and we will work on setting up a time and place.

It's closer than it is from my house.

It really isn't a bad drive, you are looking at around 245 miles from 77 at Mooresville to the motel depending on your route. You can go I-40, through the GSM park on 441, or take the back way via 129 and run the dragon. If you go I-40 just be sure to plan your trip to avoid heavy traffic times in Asheville and Knoxville. If you go through the GSM on 441 leave early as that road is heavily travelled and gets backed up during the day. It's not uncommon to get passed by snails and turtles on that road if you try to take it in the afternoon.

We try to get a group to go over together on Friday from NC/VA/SC etc. Last year it was only 2 of us, but we will try to do it again this year. We will be looking at an early afternoon arrival time at the hotel to beat evening rush hour traffic and will take one of the three routes above.

The dealership and hotel addresses are on the registration form PDF in post #2. We have a great time and also try to change it a little each year on Sunday to keep it from being the same thing every year (you may want to get a Redfire though to be able to keep up on the Dragon ). Steve does a great job as our tour guide for the Dragon, and watching the group do the "snake" on the highway is always great to watch. I hope you can join us.

I am also looking into an additional challenge for those that attend Dragon Run VIII on Sunday. Details to follow...

Thanks Allan I will try and make it. If I go I will more than likely just go the I-40 route and just sleep in the car or just show up early Sat morning for the show. I won't be able to run the Dragon but if I did I'm sure my TR would be up front with the best!! LOL

Traffic Alert for anyone coming Westbound on I-40 into Knoxville.

I-40 is closed between exits 388 & 389 in downtown Knoxville until June 30, 2009. More details here.

The detour is to take the I-640 bypass. You can see a map here.

We'll get more details out on the Dragon soon. If you remind me (PM or email) closer to time I will send you all the details. I'd love to get to see your Cobra.
