Planning to Purchase a Shelby - which year?

Greetings everyone,

I am planning to purchase a Shelby over the next few weeks and wanted to ask a very simple question. Would you buy a slightly used 2007 or 2008 with low miles or should I buy a new 2009 model with the lower production figures? I plan to keep the Shelby and hand it down to my boys when they get older, so I don't plan to get rid of the car. I have found several used '07 and '08 Shelbys for mid to upper 30's vs. being able to purchase a new '09 for below sticker, but the difference is still ~$7k. Which should I buy?

I bought a new 09 after the clutch problem which is supposed to be an issue on the 07/08 Shelbys. They're all the same so either a low mileage 07/08 or a new one will do. You can get them for invoice right now which is 4200.00 off sticker on the 09's. That's a pretty good deal but it's still not in the high 30's. The reason I went with the 09 was because it had more warranty left on it but when you get a 07/08 some of the warranty has been used up.

Not really an easy answer I guess...

Buy an older Shelby ... it will actually be worth something down the road. And I do mean a 65 - 70. The 07 - 09's are not holding values since Ford upped the production numbers. Try for a KR as I hear they are not selling and most of the dealers are trying to cut their losses.

If you want to purchase a Shelby that will be worth something down the road it needs to be a KR or Shelby GT or Super Snake, something that has actually been through the Shelby Plant and has Caroll Shelby's signature on it. These are SVT Cobras, however if you don't want to spend the money, I would go for a 2009 like the one I sold it was a Red Stripe Appearance package car only made 600 in 09'. Just my opinion, I bought a 2010 Grabber Blue.

Go for an 09. I am not sure where you are from, but I live in the chicagoland area and I bought mine last tuesday, I got mine for 38,900. I thought I got a great deal on mine. It only had 10 miles on it. Good luck hope you can get a deal like I did.

Buy a new one!! It's a no-brainer if you are going to keep the car a long time! If you keep the car 10 years, that's only $700 a year....$58 per month. These cars were sold on their horsepower.....their potential for hard driving.....for speed. Most of the used ones have been driven hard. I think it is well worth the $7k difference to know the history of your car from day one! Besides.....whatever bugs the car had fresh off the drawing board in 2007, have probably been corrected by now. Most cars have some teething problems at first. When you do sell, you will be selling a one-owner car.....not just another used car.

Personally, I wouldn't pay 40k or more for a new one.......or even 30k or more for a used one. These cars are Shelbys in name only. They were 100% designed and built by Ford in Dearborn......not by Shelby. You are paying for the Shelby name on a car that never got close to a Shelby facility. Shelby's staff designed/modified and built the legendary cars of the early to mid 60's. They are the REAL Shelbys. By the late 60's, the cars were built by Ford.

My 2004 (bone stock) had no problem staying with a GT 500......and in capable hands, I think it would do better lap times at the track.

Okay, GT 500 fans......give me your best shots. LOL

Get a '10. Production #s "aint gonna mean a thang" because Ford is running the heck out of them....sooo dont get all gay about it being a collector item in 30 years. Just my thoughts
