New Cobra pricing & production numbers.

Okay, here is a little info that I heard from my Ford dealer who has never lied to me. I was asking about pre-orders and if the price would be raised since they were holding out for $240,000 for the GT on the lot and not a penny more. This is what I was told. The production numbers are supposed to be 14,000 units over 3 years total, that is less than 5000 per year. This will be the last Carroll Shelby/Ford production unit ever. The stripes were a required item by Shelby and are supposed to cost Ford $5000.00 to put on due to production delays from the painting process. This brings us to the pricing ... the sticker price will be $49,900.00 and Ford believes that each car should bring about $100,000.00 at the time of purchase! We shall see when the cars actually hit the showrooms, but big dealers are only scheduled to receive about 5 cars per year! Good luck on your purchases! Makes me love my '03 even more.

yeah, and no wonder Ford's credit rating has been reduced to "junk" status...why don't they wake up in Dearborn...that Saleen 05 is "biatchin"

If Ford believes anyone will pay $100,000 for a new Mustang (Shelby or not) they have their heads so far up their butts that they will never see sunshine again!

BTW, nothing personal but I think your dealership just blew their record. And yes I agree, if they go up to 50K, they helped me to make a decision to keep my current snake pit.

I would not be surprised if they put a $30k or higher markup on the GT500. We stopped by Parkway tonight and looked at their GT and they have a $98K markup over MSRP on it which put the total price at $250,000.00

My dealer ( very large SVT dealer) Says about 7000 units, one year production and says atleast 80K to get one. Each dealer will only get one or two. Ford reps and such will get first dibs..

BSing is nice don't you think? I mean we can all just type here what we think or heard but the bottom line is no one really knows until you see an MSRP sticker with the car out on the dealer lot.

Here's my take on it...The car will go for 40K (Coupe) and dealers will ask a 10K premium because it has the Shelby name on it. (That is if it does when it comes out). They'll produce around 25,000 of them in a three year span and will keep producing them for as long as the market will buy them. Ford is a business, they want to sell cars so they can keep their stock holders happy but they still have to abide by federal standards (CAFE). It would be stupid of them to not try to sell as many of these cars as they possibly could.

And what about SVT????

Exclusivity?? It went out the window when SVT decided to "mainstream" their products and allow any dealer to sell this car. That in itself should tell you something. I have mixed feeling about any dealer trying to sell these cars because the odds of getting a better deal when you buy one have been reduced in my eyes anyway. Don't always believe everything your dealer says unless it is coming from someone with some inside information and even then it can be changed by the time it gets to us. (You ever walk in to a dealership and have to tell the salesperson more about the car you are about to purchase then they can tell you?)

Value?? If the price is going to be 80K then there goes the value aspect of it. I personally don't think any dealer would be stupid enough to try to sell a 40K car for 80K knowing that Joe Blow Ford dealer down the street has one and will sell it to you for sticker.

Performance? I'm guessing the car will have about 500 hp at the flywheel or there abouts and 700 will be easily attained but with a 2 ton vehicle it is going to need that to get it down the quarter in record time. The cars should be getting lighter not heavier so you can take mpg into consideration. I would hate to know that the best I could do is 11 mpg back and forth to work. (Although it would be a quick fun trip)

Substance?? I'm not crazy about the instrument gauges, the seats, the shifter position, and the car doesn't even have an "SVT" badge on the exterior of the body. (At least the prototype didn't). Blah, blah, blah...where did SVT go? We have no substance, no exclusivity, no performance, and no value. (Okay, I give performance but the handling on the road course will suck).

So there you have it... a $40K Cobra that will be fast but not corner and will have a premium attached to it, will be sold at any Ford dealer down the street, weighs two tons, and already has problems before it ever hits the street. You control the price of the car, not the dealer or Ford. It's called supply and demand and since many of you are already demanding it, the dealerships are licking their chops. As for me, I either pay below sticker or I just keep what I have and be happy.

I hear ya Cobra.. I thought only the SVT dealers would ba able to get one? So Joe blow dealer down the road wouldnt ever see one, right? My SVT dealer has inside info from what he thinks. He has many pictures w/ Carol and Higher ups in Ford ( I KNOW, DOESNT MEAN CRAP) HE says lol, 500 fly wheel, ONLY ONE YEAR PRODUCTION. IF thats true and I could get one for 50k. I would take it period. HE also said 7000 units. Your right, I would say very few people know. Dont you think if that car was 50k and you could it for that, that the car will be a 6 digit car in 10 years? Every thing Carol touches or looks at turns to gold The only thing I dont like is if it is a one year production thing is that there could be issues, 5.4 supercharged, is a new thing, I would take an 08 for 50k right now. I dont like first year production anything. I am just blabbering, 50k is alot but GT500 shelby just sound like it will be worth alot more then 50k in the future, again, I dont THINK they will be selling for that regardless what the sticker says.. JMO.. As you said, no one knows crapola yet..

Tony, MM&FF did that article on the GT500, the only place it shows SVT on the car is on the wheel center caps, and the motor.

Just what I've heard here...................I heard from a good source that the new model (the block) won't be able to hold more then 550 to the wheels? If this is true then I'm not going to go buy a more expensive car that weighs more and has less performance! Just my .02 cents

Infamous,

It's a detuned Ford GT engine. I think it will hold a lot more the 550 at the rear wheels. On a side note, I just got some really cool posters today of the 2007 Ford SVT Mustang "Shelby" Cobra GT 500. I'm thinking maybe I might bring ONE to the karting event this weekend as a teaser...

Jason,

The winner can get a poster. They are so cool... I guess I'll have to keep one for myself. Wait till you see the new surprise coming out soon, too.

Mike,

Please change your signature back, thanks.
