2000R fuel cell leaks

I recently had fuel burp out somewhere from the top of the cell at a track event. I'm dropping the cell to have a look. Has anyone found a dealer that stocks the gaskets?

is it around the fuel door? I notice sometimes when filling, air pockets build up in the bladder, then the fuel settles and out comes the air and some fuel along with it....

I believe I did hear of some issues with fill tubes, so it is definately worth looking into, because at 6 years of age, the bladder could be deteriorating....

the ford dealer wont have anything, so you'll have to go to a fuel safe dealer....check out http://www.on-trackperformance.com/ who is an scmc vendor

Leak Found

Well I dropped the cell and you can see that the gasket on top is the leaker. I'll check out the vendor listed TNX.

It depends on where on the top it's leaking. There is a gasket that is part of the stock fuel level sending unit. That's not part of the cell, that would be a dealer part. I had that fail and I used a product by the name of Gortex gasket tape. I have a link here to a source. Just use "gasket tape" or "tape gasket" for a search word. http://www.mcmaster.com/

It it's the gasket under the "ring" that bolts to the cell itself then that gasket is nothing more then cork! Go to your local autoparts store and buy a roll of thin cork gasket materal and using the aluminum "ring" scribe and then cut out a gasket. Then punch holes for the attaching bolts and your done.

I had this leak for a while before I figured out where it was. In that time the plastic plug for the sending unit sat in the fuel that leaked. Over time the fuel caused the plug to just fall apart. I then went to go to a "pick-n-pull" to source a replacement plug. It cost me $2 entrance fee.

FYI

It is less expensive to purchase a new fuel safe fuel cell from Mustangs Unlimited, then it is to have a new bladder put into your cell.

Mustangs Unlimited has a $700 discount on the List Price of the Cells

I just ordered one and they even dropped the oversize shipping charge.
