No crank no start

I have a 01 Cobra, stock engine, 73,000 miles on her.

I when to start the car up today after she sat during my X-mas time she turned over for about 1/4 of a sec and stopped, tryed again and nothing at all. I did hear small click near the ABS pump and then by the fuse box under the hood, this noise was very small.
  • Checked the battery and that was fine, over 13 volts
  • Checked fuses, all fine
  • Checked all battery cables, and grounds, all fine
Next when to try starting again, nothing but a big thud. Defently sounds like it is coming from the starter, or at least right in that area. Now my question is should I replace the starter or is there more things I should check on her? I did a search for this answer and come up with nothing so I'm hoping to get an answer by tomarrow so I dont throw my money away.

You can remove it and have it tested for free at autozone. What about the connections to the starter.

Yes I checked and followed all leads. My plan was to take off the starter and test it before I buy a new one, thanks for the help tho. I was really just wanting to see if there maybe any special stuff I forgot or over looked, I'm still newer to the Cobra's.

It sounds like your battery is dead, go test the battery too.

Ok guys I have tried everything you have told me. had the battery tested it is fine actually at 13.8 volts, plus set it on the charger and a jumper pack just to make sure.

Next rechecked wiring, agian all appears to be fine. I am getting power to the starter and it is clicking very loudly when I go to start it. But still nothing more then a loud click at start up.

So any more ideas?? Or just go ahead and remove the starter. Also I began my prep for the removal just incase, who know exactly what tools I will need. All any manuals say is remove three bolts, of coure pics show only one. It looks like I will need a few extentions and maybe a swival or two.

Next have the starter checked as it is usually one of three things that cause that. And that's under the assumption that you physically removed all of the cables and physically inspected each cable. I say this because on my 92 GT I used to own the corrosion in the cable was not at the ends but inside the cable itself. You will find it is one of those three items.

Well the end all of the whole no starting problem was the starter. It was shot, it would not engage at all. I took it to get tested and three out of three parts shops all had the testers dead or could not figure out how to use them. So I when ahead and bench tested it off my tailgate and a battery in there parking lot. It took me about 20 mins to take of and install a new starter, compared to the 2 hours of trying to test and find a starter. Total cost of doing this myself was $119.00

Great Job! That third starter bolt is a real PITA isn't it.
