Battle @ The Beach: Mustang Week Dyno Challenge

Sponsored By:
5.0 Mustang & Super Fords Magazine, Mustang Week, and Pro-Dyno

For Mustang Week 2013, a new event was added to the already jam packed week of Mustang events! 5.0 Mustang & Super Fords Magazine partnered up with Mustang Week and Pro-Dyno to sponsor the first ever “Battle at the Beach: Mustang Week Dyno Challenge.” 5.0 Mustang put out a feeler thread on their blog and Mustang Week forums to see what kind of response there would be from the Mustang community. The response we received was positive and overwhelming! Daunted with the task of narrowing the field down to the nastiest Mustang’s for the competition, Editor Steve Turner picked 9 contestants ranging from a turbo charged Fox Body, to a Whipple Supercharged 2013 Super Snake to be the first contestants to battle it out for the highest horsepower at Mustang Week!
The days and weeks leading up to Mustang Week were jam packed as Pro-Dyno shifted into high gear to get ready for the event! With a freshly painted grabber blue dyno and our newly wrapped 5th wheel trailer in tow, Pro Dyno was Mustang Week bound and especially looking forward to Thursday’s dyno challenge!

As the contestants started to arrive a crowd started to emerge to check out their rides!

Editor Steve Turner addressing the contestants and the crowd the rules for the competition

Contestants drew numbers randomly to see what order they would go in

Once numbers were drawn the Pro-Dyno crew got information from all the contestants

Let the dyno challenge begin! Each car was allowed 2 pulls, with a 15 minute cool down period in between each run. Numbers were not revealed to the owner or audience, keeping those secret until the January issue of 5.0 Mustang & Super Fords Magazine comes out in the fall per Editor Turner’s request. Each contestant was asked what they thought the horsepower of their car was, and Pro-Dyno owner/calibrator Dan Desio gave them a thumbs up if their guess was close, or thumbs down if it was not.

…and the winner of the competition was Ryan Tutor, reaching 4 digit horsepower with his Twin Turbo 1998 Saleen Mustang! Congratulations Ryan!

Pro-Dyno cannot thank all of you enough for the support you have shown us not just during this event but during every Mustang Week in general! And of course a big thanks goes out to 5.0 Mustang & Super Fords Magazine and Mustang Week for co-sponsoring this event with us, we look forward to making this an annual event!
